From Publisher's Weekly: Former Firebrand Agents Hang New Shingle.
Michael Stearns, a former editor at HarperCollins Children's Books, who recently left his agent position at Firebrand Literary, is starting a new endeavor called Upstart Crow Literary. Chris Richman and Danielle Chiotti, who worked with Stearns at Firebrand, are joining him in the new venture. Stearns and Richman will focus exclusively on representing children's book authors while Chiotti will handle a range of fiction and nonfiction authors. Read the story here.

Torstar Corporation Reports Second Quarter Results: (Yahoo Finance)
In a mixed second quarter report, Harlequin parent Torstar said book sales rose 8.7 percent to $249 million (CA), though the increase was due almost entirely to the weaker Canadian dollar. Currency exchange comprised most of the profit gains as well, up $2.4 million at $19.7 million for the period. "Underlying results were up in the overseas and North America direct-to-consumer divisions and down in North America retail." And the company expects weaker results in the second half of their year. They expect to grow "but not at the rate realized in the first half."

And I have no idea why I'm drawn to this story but I was blessed to read it in its infancy and loved it then. How wonderful to see it in polished, published form. I just LOVE those characters, Red and Cassie. Love 'em.
Okay, I'm making a retirement cake (s) for my BIL's well-deserved retirement from the Army. Gotta do it justice! God bless our men and women in uniform.
