Seekerville Weekend Edition

Lazy day here in Seekerville. We need a break between all the summer activity and conferences.

So pull up a chair, have some tea, lemonade or one of our coconut smoothies with a little umbrella. We've got lemon cupcakes from Citizen Cake too.

Relax, read a book and enjoy the day.

Torstar Corporation Reports Second Quarter Results: (Yahoo Finance)

In a mixed second quarter report, Harlequin parent Torstar said book sales rose 8.7 percent to $249 million (CA), though the increase was due almost entirely to the weaker Canadian dollar. Currency exchange comprised most of the profit gains as well, up $2.4 million at $19.7 million for the period. "Underlying results were up in the overseas and North America direct-to-consumer divisions and down in North America retail." And the company expects weaker results in the second half of their year. They expect to grow "but not at the rate realized in the first half."

From Alive Communications Inc., Literary Agency:

Alive Welcomes Back Andrea Christian Heinecke

August 2009 -- Alive Communications announced this week the return of Andrea Christian Heinecke, who served as an Alive agent from 2001-2004. She brings a broad range of publishing experience as a book editor and publicist, having worked with award-winning, best-selling authors of fiction and nonfiction adult, youth, and children’s books at David C. Cook and NavPress.

Andrea fills the shoes of agent Beth Jusino, who leaves after five years of successful client representation to pursue new opportunities in social media marketing. Of her time at Alive, Jusino says, “It’s been a privilege to work with so many talented authors and dedicated publishers. The Alive team is the best in the business, and I leave with a grateful heart for the time we have shared.”

Alive Communications president, Rick Christian says of the transition, “We are thrilled to have Andrea back. The authors she represents will benefit from her experience, network of relationships and terrific instincts. Beth will certainly be missed, and we bid her a fond farewell. She has expanded our reach and uncovered fresh talent, leaving a solid foundation on which Andrea will build.”

  1. I'll start the coffee but I have no ideas for breakfast to go with beachy theme.
Good morning. I stayed up too late reading Deadly Intent.

Happy August! May you get rain where you need it,
Summer where it's been absent and
May the RAGWEED forget to flower

  9. By the way, dare I ask a technical question of the Seekers who may know? How do you get those ID photos to pop up with each comment? I can't find the feature on my blogspot. Or did you add it special? 'Cause it's sure fun to see faces! Thanks for any help you can give!

  14. Happy Weekend, Seekerville!

Kudos and hellos from upstate NY where it hasn't rained in almost twelve hours.

Hello Seattle!!!! I think we're your new sister city. :)

Hey, I'm passing on coffee because it's late and I have overnight bakery shift, but I'm so psyched by not only the cool contest update stuff but the onslaught of wonderful info coming our way.

Tina, thank you AGAIN. You rock, woman.

And I just finished Montana Rose. My fave Conneally book, so sweet. Endearing. Funny. Charming.

And I have no idea why I'm drawn to this story but I was blessed to read it in its infancy and loved it then. How wonderful to see it in polished, published form. I just LOVE those characters, Red and Cassie. Love 'em.

Okay, I'm making a retirement cake (s) for my BIL's well-deserved retirement from the Army. Gotta do it justice! God bless our men and women in uniform.

    We're blessed to have them.

Ruthy (grabbing a muffin, a little stale... Don't you people know about plastic wrap???)
