RWA RITA AND GH Weekend Edition

Seekerville would like to congratulate the
Romance Writers of America,

2010
RITA and Golden Heart finalists!

A special shout out to our friends of Seekerville! We'll be rooting for you!

For those of you not familiar with RWA; Romance Writers of America is the largest organization of romance writers in the world. RWA began in 1980 in Houston, Texas with 37 members. Today RWA has over 10,000 members, of which over 2,000 are published in novel length fiction. RWA also has an operating budget of one million dollars.

This year Nashville, Tennessee will be the location of the RWA National conference celebrating RWA's 30th anniversary. On Saturday July 31, 2010, the RITA and Golden Heart winners will be announced at a gala formal event featuring dinner and the awards ceremony.

The RITA:
The award itself is a golden statuette named after RWA's first president, Rita Clay Estrada, and has become the symbol for excellence in published romance fiction. Up to 1,200 romance novels from 12 different categories are entered in the RITA competition each year. A novel may be entered either by the author or by the book's publisher in one of the 12 categories. After the first round of judging by published romance authors, the competition narrows to approximately 100 finalists.

The Golden Heart:
1,200 romance manuscripts are entered in the Golden Heart ( into one of 10 contest categories) each year by writers who have not accepted a publishing offer for a work of original fictional narrative prose of 20,000 words or more. In the preliminary round, the manuscripts are read and judged by General RWA members, who narrow the field down to approximately 100 finalists. The final round of the contest is judged by acquiring editors from romance publishing houses.

  5. Oh, Tina, talk about a walk down Memory Lane, girl!!! The best thing about finaling in the GH was meeting you, Janet and Myra. Fond memories, for sure.

SUPER CONGRATS to all the friends of Seekerville who finaled in the Rita/Golden Heart this week -- we are SO proud of you and like Tina said, cheering you on! And whoo-hoo to the winners of this week's Seeker giveaways too!!

Congrats on the new job, Lindsey -- rest up this weekend, girl!

  6. Helen...

I'm going to Nashville. Will we finally get to MEET?????

Oh my stars, I'm so honored.

    AND...

I just gave you a nice grandson in my WIP...

Very nice. A little muddled because his dad (your son-in-law) was a cad, but the grandson is GOOD STUFF...

    And he's a hottie.

So in fiction I've given you what life hasn't. A wonderful grandson.

And my Helen is a little bit older than you, but she's one savvy lady.

    :)

Tina, great weekend edition, par excellence. Muchas gracias from upstate NY.

And Holy Week is about to begin.

    Palm Sunday...

Pomp. Circumstance. Joy, Adulation and adoration...

Followed by treachery and sadness, travesty and travails. Denial. Pain...

And then joy cometh for the morning.

    I like joy. I'm a big fan.

  7. Lindsey, new jobs are often the basis for romance novels, did you know that?

    A new beginning... second chance...

new people, boys, girls, men, women...

New setting for the hero and heroine.

You rock, sister. Have fun at that job and work hard. I have absolute faith in you!!!

Congrats to all. Loved the pics. How is it that Seekers are so organized? HMMM???

Ruthy - have you come down from the clouds quite yet? :)

Yes!! Palm Sunday and Passover this week. Some of my favorite music in all the world is Handel's Messiah. I find it appropriate for this season as well. (Call me crazy)

  15. Helen! You're attending too.

Wonderful. We are ironing out details on a get together either before or after the Literacy Signing or both..as new Nashville events pop up.

We'll post the info in Seekerville as we did for the ACFW conference.

And Sandra and I are both doing pre conference posts to help folks attending conference (June).

AND...we will be reporting live from conference Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Lindsey, the skill of balancing life and work and your energy levels is a tough one. I come up with a new plan every week. Hang in there..you will find what works for you eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Krista..birthing a child is even better than birthing a book. They are so cute. We have a baby prayer list in Seekerville and will add you and your baby to our list.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Morning All,

Looks like a great week coming up . Thanks Tina for all the info.

I'm with Ruth on looking forward to Palm Sunday. I always love going to church beneath the palm fronds.

I'm dealing with family death right now so it is a real blessing to be able to focus on the joy that cometh.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ah, so sorry Sandra. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Another great weekend edition, Tina. Looking forward to next week's interviews. Congratulations to Keli on being a finalist for GH. And to Ruthy on the arrival of a grandbaby. Blessed season to all here. Handel's Messiah is my favorite piece of sacred music.

  21. Thanks Mrs. Lessman, and I promise I will rest. but I am hoping to get a little writing done to, that is the beauty of the weekend:)

Thanks Ruthy actually I have something new in mind, and I am really excited I'm hoping it will be everything I am envisioning!:)

Thanks Mrs. Radcliffe I'm sure I will!:)

    Lindsey

    ReplyDelete
  22. You may not call me Mrs. Radcliffe. That is my husband's mother's name. Hehehe...you MUST call me Tina or Teeena or the Teenster.

    Dudette is good too.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks for sharing in my GH excitement. I'm honored to be in such great company. The best part is I get to go to Nationals and meet many of you in person. That's what's most important!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's a mutual admiration society! Ooooh, what a sweet, sweet reminder about one of the best years of my life--the 2005 Inspy Golden Girls meet in Reno!!! Just look at us now, gals!

And did anyone catch that Linda Goodnight is a RITA finalist in Contemporary Series Romance? Go, Linda!

Sandra, so very, very sorry for your loss. You're in our prayers.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ruth:

I can't believe how you take care of me. As for your Helen being older than me, just how old is she? A hundred???

Love the idea of getting to meet in person.

For Easter, 5 churches in the area of the little church where my husband is interim pastor have a joint sunrise service. I've been asked to sing again this year.

    Tina:

My conference fund reached enough for Nashville at Christmas. I told my husband I wanted CASH for THE FUND---and got it!! I think he's even going to drive me there.

    Pepper:

I'm anxious to meet you and all the rest. Isn't it nice that the conference is in our section of the US this year?

    Helen

  26. Helen, you told me once, but I'm suffering from DBC syndrome (Distracted-by-children). You are from Va, right?

Oh, it will be great to get to meet all these interesting personalities I visit with on a weekly, if not daily, basis :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Meeting Julie, Myra and Tina, the Golden Girls was the award for entering the Golden Heart!

I'm so excited to meet everyone in Nashville! Keli and I have met and now I can cheer for her at the GH Awards ceremony!!! :-)

Our daughters' spiritual birthday is Palm Sunday. Happy day!

    Hugs and prayers, Sandra.

    Janet

  28. Pepper:

    Sorry for the wrong impression.

    I'm a Missouri hillbilly.

I was thinking you're from Tennessee. Am I also mistaken?

    Helen

    ReplyDelete
  29. Helen,
The fact that you're a hillbilly automatically makes us kindred spirits ;-)
I'm originially from the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA, and recently from the Blue Ridge Mtns of Tennessee :-)

It will take me about 4 1/2 hours to get to Nashville

    ReplyDelete
  30. Traveling any number of hours to Nashville will be worth it. Just to be together.

    Absolutely, positively.

And this is a HUGE reason we get along. We're all hicks.

I love hicks. And has anyone else seen how cute and delightfully George Straitish Easton Corbin is...

"I'm a Little More Country Than That..." Wonderful lyrics for we simple folk.

Sandra, you are in my heart always, my thoughts and prayers right now. You are such a warm and delightful friend and sister in Christ that I wish I could hug you, tease you, and make you laugh.

This is me making fun of Mary....

(I'm pretending I'm a mouse, scaring her... And she's jumping on the counter (OH MYLANTA, WOULDN'T WE ALLLLLLLL LOVE TO SEE COnNEALY JUMP UP ON A COUNTER. I'D DO THIS IN PERSON JUST FOR THAT MOMENT...)

    Sandra, did it work?

    Love you, kid.

    Ruthy

    ReplyDelete
  31. You Rock, Ruthy! Yeehaw!
And I completely agree! The drive is so worth the reward at the end.

    Blessings,

“Until April 3, A Passion Most Pure (and LOTS of other free books) are being offered on Amazon for FREE DOWNLOAD for Kindle, PC,”

I downloaded the Kindle for PC for free and then Julie’s Book which is not going to be available for free for very much longer. There are many more free romance books available to download as well.

Here is a sample of some free books:

'Hide in Plain Sight' by Marta Perry, 'Dancing in the Moonlight' by RaeAnne Thayne, 'Homespun Bride' by Jillian Hart, 'The Bride's Baby' by Liz Fielding, 'Once a Cowboy' by Linda Warren, 'Baby Bonanza' by Maureen Child, 'When Night Falls' by Margaret Daley,' A Very Special Delivery' by Linda Goodnight, 'Kiss Me Deadly' by Michele Hauf, 'Speed Dating' by Nancy Warren.

These downloaded with the first page open. It was fascinating to read the first page of all these books as I downloaded them. There are many more books but these are the ones that I think the Seeker friends would be most interested in reading.

Take a look. This is a wonderful opportunity.
