Featuring Friends of Seekerville: Comment Gems from the Archives Vol 1

Hello Seekerville! Cheryl Wyatt here with fresh biscuits and sausage gravy and homemade apple bread. Indian tea with boiled milk is in the steaming kettle. Grab a cup and enjoy!

Today I’m pleased to feature and honor Friends of Seekerville in my post.

I donned my mining cap (see the cool light on the front?) and went deep underground to mine gems of wisdom from our comment section. I list the original post that I mined the comment from at the end of each quote. I hope you enjoy and benefit from these gems of wisdom, insight and encouragement, mined from Seekerville’s comment section. Thanks for all that YOU do to make our community what it is. We appreciate your insight.

This is the first of what I hope to be several mining expeditions, so don't despair if you don't see your comment featured here. I have thousands more comments to shovel through and plan to do these features regularly, hence the Vol 1.

Some of these provide wisdom and valuable information. And some of them are just downright funny. Enjoy!

The Gem: Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute!!!!!! (I'm getting brave and adding copious amounts of punctuation because that's just the way I talk). BUT isn't this a PG rated blog? If so, pray tell what is Mary Connealy doing talking about conjugal rights and how verbs 'do it'?

Mary said: "How to Conjugate Lay and Lie
Here's how to conjugate these two verbs:"

I couldn't bring myself to read any more. This just proves to me how dangerous a thing grammar is. It should be banned. The next thing you know we'll have nouns getting frisky and then there'll be little pronouns running about everywhere! Egads!!!!!!

The Gem: One thing I use to help me is I write the story out on large index cards, chapter by chapter. That way, I have a quick reference to see if each scene builds on the conflict. And it still give me the freedom for the SOTP writer inside me.

The Gem: Great interview, Mary and Allen! Allen, I love what you had to say about the distinctive author voice and how readers aren't looking for imitations of existing authors but rather for new, authentically unique voices. And what you said about how Christians ought not mimic culture but rather transform it. Who among us can keep it to ourselves when we "meet" a new author whose voice speaks to us in new ways?! Inspiring

The Gem: Okay, I'm crying…and my makeup looked so good today. sigh...It's worth it. Wow. This was absolutely beautiful….Francine, I hope to someday write a book that inspires God's forever love like Redeeming Love inspired me…it makes all the disappointment from a contest seem miniscule compared to God's great plan for our lives. What HE can inspire in us in His time. I'm humbled - and am going to eat some yummy jelly then go wipe the raccoon marks from under my eyes.

I come for:

The tips

The camaraderie

The encouragement

The friendships

Info like this!

Bob, when did you come to my neighborhood and spy on me??
You nailed me in enough ways to be eerie.

From which Friend of Seekerville: Tina
When: July 27, 2010
The Gem: I'm constantly comparing myself to others, and not just professionally. It stifles God's creativity in ME. I'm learning to put that aside and let God show me who I am. A series of great posts I've read this morning. This helps me focus on what He'd have for me, not with the things in which He's blessed others.

From which Friend of Seekerville: Aaron McCarver
When: April 20, 2010
The Gem: Be careful sometimes of what you mean to say. A couple of students from the school were on a missions trip to the Mexican border area with others from the college. They thought they were telling people they were hungry, Yo tengo hambre. They said instead, Yo tengo hombre, which if you don't speak any Spanish means I have a man. Needless to say they got many, many strange looks.

From which Friend of Seekerville: Meg Moseley
When: Feb 15, 2010
The Gem: You've got me thinking about the Olympic athletes' aching muscles and blisters and bruises. Those are "little" things that don't necessarily show, but they add up to a lot of pain--like rejection letters or bad reviews or mean critiques. But you just have to keep going anyway!

=======================

From which Friend of Seekerville: Kirsten
When: June 24, 2010
The Gem: Debby, Thank you for the encouraging and challenging post. Sometimes it's easy to get distracted when writing and forget what our purpose for writing is: to show Christ to the world and encourage others.

I have always had a heart for those who serve our country. Since moving to the DC area I started volunteering at Walter Reed. I don't know as this is classified as courage, because I spend the whole day praying before going there. It's always a challenge to walk in and meet a new group of guys. I thank God that he always revs me up to go when it would be easier to go home.

=======================

Cheryl here. I absolutely LOVED Kirsten’s last line: “I thank God that he always revs me up to go when it would be easier to go home.”

I suspect that Seekerville and its community of Friends has done that for many of you.

I’d love to hear in the comment section a time when God reached through our blog and either tickled your funny bone, or touched healing balm to your weary-of-waiting heart.

Comment away!

Hugs all,

Cheryl Wyatt

  1. I'm pretty new here, Cheryl, but as a writer not yet published (novels, that is), just having learned of the Seekerville site, how y'all came to share and support each other and then others of us on what often seems a long, lonely road (lined with naysayers and meanies tossing stones or rejections) well that community and generosity of spirit encourages me. Thanks! (I'm challenging the apostle Paul for longest sentence prize!)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I hope you'll come back and comment often!

  3. Cant say just one time God has touched my funny bone here at Seekerville but I know there have been many. There have been times when I haven't been feeling the best and the comments have given me a laugh or a lift. I think one of the funny ones recently was during seekerville birthday when Mary posted and Hannah, Renee and one other (forgive if I missed someone) were posting crazy comments to go in the draw (dont think they won that time either!) But it was fun to see there craziness whoops I mean creativeness.

I have plenty of Chocolate milk for all the non tea and coffee drinkers.

    This was TOO fun...
    Thanks!

And I'm sad to report, the CG mascara in the green tube is no more. Sigh.

(So - there's this orange tube now...)

    ;D

Seekerville has inspired me beyond words. As Mary Kay and Ausjenny said, y'all offer such support and fun...

I want to THANK you all for prodding me to enter my first contest, back in Feb. I learned a lot from the comments and appreciate the nudge to enter.

  5. I have laughed a lot, especially this morning when I really, really needed it. (Yes, I know there are better words than really but it is what I have at 4ish this AM.)

For me, Seekerville stands as an example of perseverance, camaraderie, and faith every single day.

You illustrated that this community isn't just made up of the founding sisters but all who come here for encouragement and advice.

    Peace and Thanks, Julie

  6. Hey, have I told you how much I love youse guys? I regret that I can't always read all the comments throughout the day, because there are always gems there.

As a FOS, THANK YOU! We come here to willingly share our hearts because The Seekers have made this a soft comfortable place to be.

  7. OMG those were so good Cheryl.

I could HEAR each one of our friends unique voices.

So says OUR writing friends don't have VOICE? They sure do.

  8. Morning Cheryl, What a fun post. Those comments brought back so many memories.

And yes, Seekerville is definitely more than just the fifteen of us. You folks who share with us make the journey fun and as Debra said, comfortable.

There are so many things we had to learn the hard way and we just wanted to share and to pave the way for others. And as always happens, we end up being the ones blessed. Thanks all of you.

Cheryl I have to say my favorite breakfast is biscuits and sausage gravy. yum

  9. Cheryl, thanks for going on your mining expedition. You chipped out gems of wisdom and laughter.

    What a hoot!

I loved reliving some of our past posts through the eyes of the Friends. Absolutely loved it!

No fair starting off our stroll down memory lane with a comment from KAV...I'm just lucky I had swallowed my gulp of coffee already, LOL!!

A big thank you to all our friends. We wouldn't have a fraction of the fun we do without you.

Did I see sausage gravy?? Yumbola!

  10. I've said this before, but coming to Seekerville when I was struggling, wondering when and if my books were ever going to get published, was like getting a hug from friends who understand me. (No wise cracks from Mary and Ruthy.)

Plus, also, you guys make me laugh. I was cracking up at some of those comments. And laughter is good medicine.

  11. Chery, thanks for mining these comments! I enjoyed every one of them.

I've already had my oatmeal, but may I have a biscuit drenched in sausage gravy for lunch????

    Yum!!!

  13. /sets out big blueberry muffins today/ Top 'o the muffin to you!

[Yes, I've been reading Julie-fic FINALLY so I've got the Irish thing in my head PLUS there was that Seinfeld ep where they have the restaurant/bakery called 'Top o' the Muffin' where they only sold muffin tops and the homeless people got mad because they were getting the bottoms and they like tops, too, doncha know but now, somehow, Panera manages to make muffies which are just the tops and quite yummy.]

Wow, that was a run-on sentence!

Anyway, those were fun to read :). As a newbie, I didn't recognize any of them but fun nonetheless. Maybe one of these days I'll have something witty enough to make it into another volume.

I forget the actual question now [did you see that sentence up there? That took some time to craft!] but my fave comment on Seekerville so far was Julie's wonderfulness on 'posting the end of your chapter to keep them turning the page' and the kind things she said about mine at that point. I need to go find it and copy/paste it then print it off and hang it somewhere. Or something.

    So there.

    Carol ;)

My captcha is phalv which somehow reminds me of Pavlov and his dogs. What that might have to do with Seekerville, I'll leave to more brilliant minds to figure out ;).

  16. Julie, your comment here will totally end up mined in a future Gems of Seekerville post.

Thank you for the encouragement. I love the fun that's been had and the friendships that have been forged here. I really, really, really (GRIN!) look forward to meeting many more Friends of Seekerville in the coming months and years.

You mean a lot to us! Thanks for being a part.

  17. Debra, thank you for the kind words. We're glad that everyone feels welcome.

It's totally because of Helen's coffee. Totally.

    Grin.

Well, and Mary's neverending quips of wit.

    And Ruthy's mother-hen-style snarkiness.

    And Tina's Wonderful WEs....

    I could go on forever.

How lucky are we Seekers to have each of you Friends here?!!!

    Love you guys,

    Cheryl

  20. Okay - blogger just ate my awesome comment that was about as long as one of Julie or Ruthy's posts.
    WAAAAAA!!!!!

    So - here is a cliff-note recap:
Cheryl - fantastically fun post. Did you have fun mining?

    Posts I've enjoyed from Seekerville?
I've laughed with Mary on...well...about every post :-)

Love Tina's W.E. especially the caveman and monkey ones.

    Julie's Kissing posts. Sigh.

Ruthy's Holy Hot Heroes, Batman - Duh!

But especially Ruthy's post on Persistence from the book of Ruth. Very touching.

    thanks so much, you guys.

btw, after this post I'm going to pay extra attention to my spelling - just in case I have to read myself again. :-)

  21. Cheryl, thanks so much for going mining! These were fantastic! And I'm still giggling about some of them. :)

And thanks to all of you for your fun comments and inspiration each day!

  22. Sandra, I'm with you and the biscuits and sausage gravy! Have y'all tried the frozen Bob Evans version??? It's sooo good! Almost as good as my homemade. :)

  24. There have been so many posts that have been just what I needed for the day, so I can't pin-point on specific moment. I love the comradarie here and the way you all support each other as well as the rest of us writers.

I love that the blog is aimed at writers. Seperated from my writer's network after moving, I get rather lonely and it's nice to have writers on-line to share things with.

    Thank you!

  25. Audra, I'm with ya! There were SO many that had me cackling for HOURS yesterday.

  26. Many of the posts truly, deeply touched me too. Almost EVERY comment on the Francine Rivers and Ruthy Interview had me teary-eyed in a good way.

  27. Melanie, we're glad you're a part and that you've been uplifted. I have personally been encouraged by your transparency and pure heart on more than one occasion, so thanks for sharing.

  29. Pam, yes! Biscuits and gravy sound SOOOOO good for lunch.

I made biscuits and gravy due to a comment I ran across where several Friends requested them for breakfast.

So I made them to order just for the occasion.

Wait until you see what's for lunch.

Walt's taking care of that. Snicker, snicker!

  30. Carol, I LOVE blueberry muffins! Wahoo!

Thanks for being a part of our community.

    And for bringing muffins! Yum.

Your comment makes me think we should do a post on Captcha woes. LOL! I KNOW there is a Captcha gremlin out there taunting me somewhere.

Right before I started my diet this year, the word verifications said things like:

    Phat
    Oinc
    jiggel

and other subliminally snarky "messages." LOLOL!

  31. My daily routine starts with oatmeal and Seekerville. :-) Sometimes I don't have time to comment until later, but I'm always mulling over what's been posted. And honestly, no matter who the blogger is or what the topic is I've definitely been touched and tickled and lifted up by your willingness to share with such generosity.

I'm not new to writing, but I am new to thinking seriously about publishing an honest-to-goodness 'grown-up' book. I find that I can get blind-sided by sheer panic and can easily slip into negative thinking BUT a daily dose of Seekerville is keeping me on track!

So God bless Seekerville and its inhabitants!

  32. Pepper, indeed I did have fun. I had a blast! Well, thankfully not literally. LOL! Otherwise you all would be digging me out of rubble right about now.

It was great meeting you at ACFW this year, albeit briefly.

I hope you can make it to St. Louis with many other Friends of Seekerville. We're gonna have a blast.

It's so fun to "hear" the comment voices after meeting each of you

Thanks for being so faithful to frequent our blog, Pepper! Now I'm going to go back and read those posts you mentioned. What fun! :-)

  34. I love Madame Zelda and Marlena Fortune!

In fact, I went back and copied some of Zelda's predictions for 2010 and they've almost all come true, at least I think they have :)

The question: Will Captain Jack show up for our own Zelda this month??? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

    6. The Seekers will announce the sale of over TWENTY books in 2010.

    7. Ruth will meet Derek Jeter.

    8. The Seekers will open the Seekerville Market Place and dabble in Seeker products.

    9. That friend of Seekerville from Alabama will finally announce her sale.

    10. Madame Zelda will rendezvous with Captain Jack on the island in November 2010.

  35. Pepper. I tried to edit out any spelling or typo-ish errors but otherwise don't change the originals. I scoured comments for hours though so I might have missed some. LOL! Lemme know if I missed something in yours and I'll change it real quick. LOL!

I think I have a form of dyslexia that won't let me see my errors until they post or print. Sigh!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Blogger is being bad for me today too.

It kept making me sign in and wouldn't show me a word verification thingie until I hit enter once then had to retype my password in twice every time.

Okay, that run-on rivaled Carols. LOL!

    Carol, let's have a run-on race.

    Ready? Set. Go!

  37. Missy, I will have to try the Bob Evans stuff. I LOVE both of my grandmothers' home made sausage gravy. I have an aunt who makes THE BEST chocolate gravy. SO yummy.

I agree about our Friends. What treasures they are and what fun they add to Seekerville!

    Cheryl

  38. Missy told me I'd better get over here and see what's going on, and she was right. The comment about the conjugal rights of verbs made my day!
    Thanks for the smiles!

Word verification: bowst, which sounds Old English but not quite.

  39. Nope, Cheryl
Didn't see anything in particular - I just know my own penchant for creative-spelling :-)

I think it's a product of having multiple children, working with children, thinking about children...and not yet having chocolate this morning.

I'm going to my 'medicine drawer' at work. Important medicine. Things like Hersheys, reeces, and the occassional godiva!

I'm feeling clearer-headed just thinking about it.
    And hungrier.

    word ver: idess
    A female idea? ;-)

  40. Cheryl, thank you so much for the lovely walk down memory lane!

I'm singing Auld Lang Syne as I type, for heaven's sake. Wonderful, just wonderful.

And the food is great, I'm lovin' the steamed milk and tea. So very continental.

And my word veri is "bloppop" and I will not even begin to reason that one out.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ooooo, a run on race sounds like so much fun, but the problem is that I have a three year old sitting next to me [notice that says 'three year old' and not '3yo' or DS3] and though I have already showered and dressed and put my make up on and changed a diaper, I do still need to make my lunch, dress said three year old who wants to run around nekkied [except for said diaper], and get my school stuff together, plus I'd like to edit a chapter for that FULL REQUEST I got over the weekend, and I only have about twenty five [not 25 ;)] minutes before I have to leave so maybe later?

    How does that sound?!

and LOL! Captcha: lazyme - no kidding!

  42. Kav, thank you for sharing that. We'll be cheering you on as you press on. We're thrilled you are!

    :)

Honey, the reason it works is because we're all certifiable in a GROUP and if they come after us with butterfly nets, at least a few of us will slip through the cracks and begin again.

'Cause we're writers. And it's what we do. Hugs to you, and Taylor sends her hugs too, the stinkin' little turncoat who is SO IN LOVE WITH THE HEALER'S APPRENTICE!!!

  44. Whew! I’m revved up this morning! Got into work to find an e-mail from my Admiral that he was coming in at 1000 to sign letters I was told I had until 1500 to produce. So after performing the flight of the bumble bee I’m checking into Seekerville.

Very fun post, Cheryl! I have gotten so much out of Seekerville that there’s no way I can think of one post God used, because it seems He uses them all to reach me on any given day. It amazed me six months ago when I started visiting Seekerville that there were authors willing to give so much of their time and assistance to other writers. You’ve all been such a blessing and the information you provide is invaluable.

Now, before I get too emotional, and embarrass myself, I better grab another cup of coffee.

    Thanks,
    Kirsten

  45. Ditto to Kirsten's comment.

Even though I don't always comment, I read all of Seekerville's posts. I don't drink coffee, but I use Seekerville get me going in the mornings.

  47. Puff, puff. Pant, pant. Here I am with the coffee and tea pots.
    Refills for everyone.

Sorry I'm late, Cheryl, but I've been working on my TBR pile , going to bed with a book and getting up late. Plays havoc with coffee duties.

The more I write, the less I read. So I've been taking time to read and not moving as fast on the writing.

I can't read as much as I used to. The eyes just won't tolerate it. Get all stingy and watery. (not stingy as in tightwad, sting-y as in painful)

I enjoyed all these. And the one you quoted from me pretty much says it.

  48. Linnette, we're so glad you found us! Maybe God will use you to start a local writers' group where you live. I'll bet there are several closet-writers who'll come out of the woodwork eventually.

I'm TOTALLY gonna have to get one of those medicine cabinets here at home. LOL!

Hey, let's have chocolate for lunch!

Chocolate gravy and oatmeal. Melted Ham and Cheese sandwiches with pita chips. Tossed Italian salad with pine nuts and almonds sprinkled on top. Creamy dressing that has more zing that Marlena's red dress...

Cap'n Jack offered to provide beverages but I told him it's too early in the day for that. LOL!

So we have more milk on the way and sweet southern tea!

Ice cold Spring water for non-tea drinkers.

  55. Fun, fun, fun, Cheryl! I bet you had a blast visiting the archives and mining for these gems!

The truth is, Seekerville wouldn't be what it is today without all our wonderful and faithful friends who laugh and cry and share wisdom and enjoy cyberfood with us every day. This is YOUR blog even more than it is ours. YOU are the reason we're here.

    And . . . I just have to add . . .

Kirsten! You work for an ADMIRAL???

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ruthy, my pleasure! LOL on bloppup. Hmmm. LOL.

And Seekerville would not be the same without your wise cracks!

I can't think of a group I'd rather be certifiable with. Totally agree!

Look, they're coming with their little white coats now...

Coming to take us away, ha-ha, they're coming to take us away. Ho-ho, he-he, ha-ha!

Anyone remember that song? Super Bubble, babee!

Come back often and brings friends!

We LOVE meeting new people and of course hangin' with the oldies.

Well, not OLDIES in the sense of age, but you know what I mean.

    HELEN! You made it. YAY!

Better late than never. I know the feeling about not having as much time to read as I want. I read in spurts then write in spurts. It's hard to do both at the same time, at least for me. LOL!

  64. I'm envisioning Kirsten on a ship in the middle of an ocean.

Kirsten, like so many Friends of Seekerville, you are totally heroine material.

Named after a historical novel (British, was it?) spy.

    Volunteers for wounded Vets.

Works with an Admiral who wants 1500 hour work at 1000 and STILL takes time to buzz by the Island.

Provides Gems for fodder. WOW girl!

  67. HI. It's been quite the morning. I've been a long time checking in and it's such a great day.

To all of you who hang around with us here, you have to know this blog works because of YOU more than US.

I mean, Ruthy has proved a zillion times over that a person can be completely bossy and sarcastic and remain so very, very, very alone!!!

So thanks for all the comments and Cheryl, such a great idea to mine these gems.a

  70. @Myra,

I work for 3 Admirals. Two Four-Stars and one Three-Star. They are retired, but you couldn't prove it by anyone. Their stories alone can keep a writer going for 100 years.

Not sure how much people want to know, so I won't drone on about my guys.

  71. @Cheryl,

LOL, Cheryl! I almost hate to respond because you make my life sound so exciting.

I'm named after a fictional Swedish spy.

I work for the Naval Historical Foundation on the Washington Navy Yard. So, I'm sorry to kill your dream, but I'm not on a ship. I am on the Washington Navy Yard, home to NCIS, JAG, Navy INTEL and other great commands that make us a prime target for attack. The Foundation is a non-profit whose purpose is to support the Navy's official history program. We provide funding for the Navy's museums and research programs and we also supplement their oral history and speaker program.

What do I do? I'm the oral history program manager (this is what I was originally hired to do since my degree is in Naval Warfare), the events manager (we rent out the Navy Museum for private events it's my job to coordinate with the client, base command, and port ops to make sure everyone is happy), and I serve as the executive assistant for our capital campaign to expand the museum and the personal assistant to our three admirals since they don't want to pay for their own individual assistants (this part of the job can be fun as I get to interact with top corporate leaders, military leaders, and political leaders). Sorry, to kill the heroine dream. ;o) But feel free to use the name.

Kirsten, your job sounds very interesting. And I never knew one could get a degree in Naval warfare! And I ditto Cheryl—write those stories!

  83. Cheryl,

Sorry I’m late in responding back! Thanks for your interest. I’m pretty proud of the men I work for, and I plan on using many of their stories. Many times they think I’m taking notes during a meeting, and I am, notes on them. ;o) So I’ll share a little information, but rest assured the names will be changed to protect the innocent, but I have stories in mind for each.

I tend to write romantic suspense and my heroes are always military or former military, mainly Marines. I have to admit my boss’ biggest frustration is I work for the Navy and love the Marines. :o) Our organization works closely with the Marine Corps, so when someone has to go to Quantico they send me. It’s my reward.

Surprisingly, my current wip is about an NFL player. Not sure where he came from.

And I love your stories, Cheryl, but they’d really pitch a royal if they knew I read stories about airmen. I’d have to hear lecture after lecture about the supremacy of the Naval Aviator.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Continued...

With your interest in the military I’ll give you a little of their histories. Our Chairman Emeritus is Admiral James Holloway III, former Chief of Naval Operations. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He has a jacket FULL of awards and medals. AMAZING history and he and his wife are as cute as bugs ears (but don’t tell him I said that). He started in surface navy and then went into aviation. He was the first aviator to go through nuclear training so he could command the first nuclear aircraft carrier. He just wrote a book detailing his career Aircraft Carriers at War. I’d highly recommend. He’s a Top Gun and was the tech advisor for the movie Top Gun (not his most distinguished honor, but I thought it was cool). He’s my favorite today because he gave me tickets for the Naval Academy football game this Saturday.

The second 4-Star is Admiral Bruce DeMars a submariner. He served during the Cold War and much of what he did is still classified and probably will be until after he dies. He served in the silent service tracking Ivan (Soviet Submarines). He ended his career as the head of the Navy’s Nuclear program.

The 3-Star, Vice Admiral Robert Dunn, is a former Naval Aviator and if you’ve been around aviators you’d know it the minute you met him. He’s a great guy and very nice, but he has the attitude and ego that kept him alive in Vietnam and throughout the Cold War. He also cracks me up because he hangs up on me ALL THE TIME. The conversation usually ends like this. “Okay, Admiral, Goo—“Click the line is dead. He’s not being rude it’s just from being in command, you issue the order and that’s that. I have this in a story already. It’s just too great.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Thank you, Cheryl! I just contacted a local writer and am hoping she can help me locate a network or at least maybe help me find other writers to meet with. Thanks for being so sweet!

  86. Kirsten, I LOVE IT! I'm going to stay on your caboose until you finish these stories!!! I know they will be amazing.

Being the daughter of a Marine who served in Vietnam, I am really glad you're going to write stories that honor the military.

    Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing.

Now finish those stories! LOL about number three hanging up on you. It's good that you have a sense of humor about it.

    Very cool.

  88. ...Still continued

I've also been blessed to assist the Marine Corps oral history program, so I've transcribed, edited and indexed my way through some great sources for stories and life.

One of my heroes is a former Marine sniper, because of interviews I listened to of snipers in Vietnam.

One last note. This last week we had a former Vietnam POW visit our base and share his experiences. He was held for 6 years. During his talk he testified to the grace and faithfulness of God, and how he and the other men led a 10 minute worship service every week and at Christmas one man with an amazing voice sang O Holy Night. The men would then exchange pretend gifts. But after they got home every man made good on the gifts they gave their friends in prison.

The greatest thing about my job is that I get to hang out with true heroes. It's an honor.

@Mary Kay--I only know of one place to get a master's in Naval Warfare and that's the American Military University. The degree combines Navy and Marines and studies not only the history but strategies, tactics, policies, etc. It's fun!

Okay, I'll end the epic saga. I get talking about the military and my tongue and fingers get away from me.

  96. Cheryl, I am so glad you don't want me to explain what I had for dinner. (However, it is in my nonfiction manuscript on marriage, if I ever get it published.)

As much as their many Seeker posts that have touched my funny bone (particularly Ruthy and Tina), but it's what happens in the comments section that provides me more laughter than anything else. Yes, it's a blog. Yes, it's a chat. But it's also a group of friends relaxing and having a good time. And that's why I keep coming back (as well as for the daily free education).

  102. Debby, glad you came by! I think you, Kirsten and I should do an anthology and each feature a different branch of the military.

We'll have to find a fourth and fifth author for the other two branches.

    Air Force
    Army
    Marines
    Navy
    Coast Guard

    And maybe the National Guard.

    Wouldn't that be FUN!

    Cheryl...dreaming here.
