  2. First sales are SO special! And congrats to all the winners!

When Dad asked a client why she was reading another Pat Conroy book she replied, "Because he writes such beautiful sentences."

    Great WE Tina! Mornin' Helen!

  3. I'm guzzling coffee, it's 4:28 AM and dancing in the streets over Katie's good news.

    YAYAYAYAY!!!!!!

    Wonderful stuff. Just marvelous.

Writing quotes: Here's one of my favorites, I had to look it up because I forgot who said it, but it encompasses what I love in a good book... The intimated rather than the explained.

"What I like in a good author is not what he says, but what he whispers."
~Logan Pearsall Smith, "All Trivia," Afterthoughts, 1931

"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass." Anton Checkov

"If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn't brood. I'd type a little faster." ~Isaac Asimov

Finishing the office today. If you can believe it.

    There's a floor.

    And two windows.

    WHO KNEW????? ;)

I'm leaving a Sunday breakfast of strawberry crepes, whipped cream, apple fritters, ham/egg/cheese breakfast sandwiches on croissants or bagels and...

Nectarines. Just bought some. (Dave did, actually) Oh my stars, they're the perfect fruit and I don't often waste calories on fruit when chocolate is, well...

    chocolate.

  4. Morning all. Got up at 0330 with an urge to write. So there I was back in 1888 and this thought goes rattling through... what's up at Seekerville...

Well, there went my train of thought. Great Weekend Edition, Tina. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate these weekly reports. We had a news program up here in Canada called W5. Each W stood for the questions Who, What, Where and When. I could never remember what the 5th one, though. But, that's what this is - WE instead of W5. Everything you need or want to know about the Seekers with one click. Thank you.

Great coffee, Helen. And Ruthy, thanks for bringing the nectarines. They are delish.

    Anita Mae.

  6. This week my favorite author is Kaye Dacus, but I've chose this quote:

“I have been correcting the proofs of my poems. In the morning, after hard work, I took a comma out of one sentence…. In the afternoon I put it back again.” ~Oscar Wilde

Does anyone know how many calories are burned up while editing?

Congrats to Katie. I think this is going to be a banner year for FOS sales.

  18. How many quotes are we allowed to leave? :-)

Thanks for the great WE, Tina. Always wonderful!

    And congrats winners!!

Here are a few quotes I love:

"Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia." ~E.L. Doctorow

"What I like in a good author is not what he says, but what he whispers. ~Logan Pearsall Smith, "All Trivia," Afterthoughts, 1931

"Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart."
    ~William Wordsworth

"The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug." ~Mark Twain

There's another one by Mark Twain that I really like, but he uses some inappropriate verbage, so I'll refrain. Suffice it to say, it's about NOT using the word 'very" :-)

    Okay - only two more.

    When you are describing,
    A shape, or sound, or tint;
    Don't state the matter plainly,
    But put it in a hint;
And learn to look at all things,
With a sort of mental squint.
    ~Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll)

This one is FANTASTIC...and one I keep close by :-) (Not that I heed it as much as I ought)
"You need not expect to get your book right the first time. Go to work and revamp or rewrite it. God only exhibits his thunder and lightning at intervals, and so they always command attention. These are God's adjectives. You thunder and lightning too much; the reader ceases to get under the bed, by and by." - Mark Twain

  19. Pepper, here's another by Smith...

"When I'm writing I know I am doing the thing I was born to do."-Logan Pearsall Smith

    "What he said."-Debra E. Marvin

    ReplyDelete
  20. "What Deb said."
    - Pepper D. Basham
    :-)
Totally! Isn't that a great feeling? I think I've mentioned it before, but a quote by Eric Liddel, the Irish runner who won a few Olympic gold medals...
    "When I run, I feel God's pleasure"
That's how I feel when I read something I've written well. I reread it, and I 'feel God's pleasure'. That knowledge that I"m doing something I've been called to do.
It happened recently with one of my songs...I KNEW as the song evolved and I sang it. I'm humbled and enraptured all at the same time.

Okay - that probably sounded weird.

    Pepper

  21. Oh dear, I meant SCOTTISH Olympian, not Irish

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm part Irish, so I just go there by default ;-)
    LOL

  23. Hi everyone. It's Sunday afternoon. Every Sunday afternoon I almost have to take a nap. Why is that?

How could my body possibly know its Sunday? I don't get groggy at this time EVERYDAY.

No one can be that Pavlovia.

    Anyway...night night.

  24. We're doing writer quotes?
I've always loved this one, though it's BY a writer, it's not about writing.

If you can't be a good example, maybe you can be a horrible warning.
    --Jennifer Crusie

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congratulations Katie! And congratulations to all the winners this week!

Here's a writing quote everyone might appreciate:

"There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are." W. Somerset Maugham

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm baaaaack. And I bet you didn't even know I was gone.

    Congrats again, to Katie.

Vince, glad you are feeling better!!!

Hope you all had a productive weekend and hope Mary's nap was filled with zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs.

  27. Pepper, he WANTED to be Irish, but his angel had stopped by a local pub and, oh well...

A hop, skip and a jump 'cross the water and he was born Scot.

But if you reeeeeaaaaly look into it, there's not much that changes across a narrow strip of water.

And I'm Irish and Scotch Irish so I'm the offspring of marauders and some clever Irish lass who convinced him to stay and raise a host of young un's.

If we couldn't beat them at war, we managed them with love.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh Ruthy,
My Irish ancestors went for British aristocrats or American soldiers...that is, if they weren't being stowaways on a ship bound for America to escape the Potato Famine.

Love the culture. Love the accent. Love the color green :-)

And I'm all for Scot-Irish too. I'm Presbyterian. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pepper, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MR DARCY?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congrats, Katie! So happy for you!

And thank you! I'm really looking forward to reading Cara's book. That cover is stunning! It cracked me up that two Patty Jos won this week. Well, CatMom spells her name Patti Jo. I did a double take the first time I saw it in the comments. LoL

    Happy Sunday! =]

    ReplyDelete
  31. You noticed that, Deb?
    It's from Pemberley :-)
    Move over Lizzie Bennet!

Seriously, it IS from the house which doubled as Pemberley in the 2005 version of P & P (with Keira Knightley). When I visited the house, Chatsworth Hall, they still had the bust of Mr. Darcy from the movie. Who WOULDN'T want to get their picture with Mr. Darcy?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Pepper, I'm SO jealous I'm going to steal that picture and photo shop myself in! HAHAHA!

And Katie, TwO BOOK deal? So awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Woo hoo, Katie!!! I'm thrilled for you! Just read your first sale story. How very, very cool!! :)

  34. Pepper shared:

Oh, Pepper, I love this one! Thanks for sharing.
