  1. I already entered one contest this week, but I could sure use a Seekerville critique.

    Coffee's brewing.

  2. Nose is on the grindstone. WIP, WIP, WIP!

  3. Fantabulous list ma'am! Lots to choose from.

Would love a critique but May and I are not writing romance. Will leave that splendid prize for someone else to enjoy... and make a first sale soon!

But, one little thing - really??? First 2,5000 words. for the Michael Jackson contest? Wshew... ;D

    Hi Helen! /waving/
I'm getting back to my usual schedule finally... Thanks for the brew this evening/morning. :)

  4. Is there an expiration for the critiques won by us? Don't know when I'd use it, but sure wouldn't hurt to have it in the arsenal.

Glad to see the Genesis judges finally up.

I, um, ate too many late night snacks to make up for the fact that I missed lunch, so I'm keeping my hand over my eyes to keep me from eating anything more.

I'll bring big pitchers of ice cold water to fill up on so anyone else determined to keep their hands off the cyberfood can join me. Better get off my computer chair for a few minutes and exercise. TTFN

  5. Melissa, I entered THREE different categories of the Genesis this year, with judges sight-unseen. I lost my entry money but it was to a good cause. :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Great update, as always!

Think I'm going with Genesis but that's probably it this month. Maybe more later this year but for the not right now.

    Thanks, Tina!

    ReplyDelete
  7. And I'd love to be entered for the critique :D.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This is why I am not a bank teller.
    Extra 0 on that K.C.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Can I ask a question what is the difference from historical fiction and historical romance?

good luck to all entering contests.

    ReplyDelete
  10. those historical romance judges... wow.

Virginia Mary Ginny. Thanks for the donation to the ACFW.

It's nice that they changed the disqualification rules but I guess that only applies if you get a contract after March 1.

I'm still a bit stuffed from that party yesterday.

Thanks for the contest update, Tina. Have a great weekend everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well Jenny one is a HEA (Happily Ever After) with a one guy one girl romance thread. The other is not.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Love all those contest updates.

After Virginia's party yesterday, we should all be inspired to enter more contests.

    Best wishes all of you.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Looks like a great line-up if I can get things together. Ha!

Lyndee, you've got the right idea. Nose to the grindstone!

Please enter me for the 15 page critique. : )

  14. Thanks for the contest update, Tina! I love the Valentine motif! Need to get my dh a card. I saw he had one for me, not that I was snooping. :-)

I was a Genesis finalist at the time when a sale disqualified finalists. Love the change of rules! Pulling for all of you who are entering contests.

KC, are you sure May isn't writing romance on the sly? ;-)

    Janet

  15. I'm inspired! I'm thinking of entering two contests...but unlike Virginia, I'm waiting until the last minute to send my submission to the Genesis :)

And please enter me for the critique! I'd love to have someone look at my new WIP - but give me a few weeks to get it ready, okay?

Melissa, dear, remember that Seekerville food is virtual - indulge your heart out. No cost, no calories, no fat, no carbs. Heaven on earth...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I learned so much from entering the Genesis contest last year that I hope this year's entry does better. We'll see. Please enter me for the critique drawing.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Amazing post! Thanks a lot for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Great update, Tina! Thanks! Question for you: if I decide to enter more than one contest, is it best to have different things I submit, or is okay to submit the same piece of work fitted to contest parameters? So appreciate you compiling all of these contests into one place. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tina, thank you for the update! I've got a couple more contests to enter and I'll be done for this year.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jan, do you have a reason for waiting??????? Something we should know about? :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOL, Janet!! You snoop. :)

I got hubby's card and chocolate already. I just hope he doesn't read this. Of course, he's not a SNOOP like some people we know!

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jeanne T, it's fine to enter the same manuscript in several contests.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good job, Teeenster!

Oh, I love contests. Just love 'em!

And Valentines' Day. Such a girly holiday. I'd like a bunch of those unexpected flowers... The 4.99 at the grocery store just because a certain someone wants to brighten your day.

    Can I hear an "awwww...."?

I started this earlier, so I'm behind on comments. But I had the honor of working with Lyndee yesterday on 1K1HR! SUHWEET! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am thrilled with the Genesis judge line-up. Absolutely, positively wonderful!

God bless those coordinators, they went above and beyond to have a great cross-section. Seriously solid choices in every category. How could we ask for more than that?

JAMIE!!!! Good girl! We learn, change and grow! Go get 'em, Tiger!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tina, always love your contest updates!

Heading to Birmingham, AL, for Murder in the Magic City. Tomorrow I'll be on an author panel and talking about "Murder and More." What fun! :)

Traveling on to the Montgomery area on Sunday for Murder on the Menu! (Just so they don't kill the author!) :)

I'll mention Seekerville at both events. Bet your ears will be burning!

    Hugs!

  26. The Lord is good! I am sipping coffee, enjoying a snowday from the day job--preschool director/teacher--and thanking the Lord for the gift of too much fluffy white stuff. The whole day to pull the perfect words together...don't you love writing when it is cold and snowy outside...and no guilt over wearing sweats and slippers cause it is so cold and so snowy who cares? And then, just when life cannot get any better, there's an opportunity from Seekerville for a critique! Count me in! Eileen

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey...I think I will enter a contest or three! Why not?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, I'm finally almost at a place where contests are an option, so thanks so much for the update! :) I just had a very large bowl of Lucky Charms, so no food for me today... just back to the writing. I would love to be entered for the critique. Oh and thanks for the water Melissa! It'll keep me hydrated while I hermit myself inside today to write.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Missy, my lips are sealed. And my keyboard. But IF I ever have any news to share, you'll be the first to know:)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks for the updates, Tina.

Still trying to figure out my future contest plans :-)

    Have a great day

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, and I'd love a crit.
Am always in need of one :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. So, Tina. If a contest lists only the Historical Fiction category, is it wise to submit an Historical Romance?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I saw the email from the Genesis judges. Eek! Guess it's getting closer and closer to that end mark...

    I'd LOVE a crit. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Please enter me in the 15 page critique so I can polish 'my baby' before it leaves my hands again. :)

    Blessings,
    Jodie Wolfe

    ReplyDelete
  35. Eileen, I love those days! They're really rare here in Georgia. But I do love being snowed in! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jan, you're really good! I still don't know any more than I did before my question. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  37. this is just the most CHEERFUL blog all the pink and red.
It hardly matches the murky day we're having.

    I'm so conflicted!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Today, I'm packing my computer and heading to the library, where there's no internet hook-up, no phone, no piles of laundry calling my name, etc. Just a solid block of writing time.

It was fun over at FB 1H1K yesterday with Ruthy and a bunch more of you fabulous ladies (haven't seen any of the guys over there!)but today I'm going to change it up. I'm Grammy-booked this weekend, so I doubt I'll be finding time to write. SO today I've set the lofty goal of 3,000 words or more! YIKES! Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks to all of you for your inspiration, cheerleading, and the gentle kick in the butt.

Thanks, Tina, for the contest list. I love the pretty hearts too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Missy, in Colorado we get snow 2 or 3 times a month--but, snowdays! They happen maybe 2 times a year. This is our second already. See what spring brings.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Good luck to everyone who enters!

    Helen, good for you!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm considering two entries in the Genesis, but after critiquing a few entries I just don't know if I should spend the money.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh, Debby! I didn't know about Murder in the Magic City. It would have been worth it to go just to see you. :-) Hope you have a wonderful time!

Today is my birthday. If my hubby gets a job, that will be present enough. He's talking to a possible employer on the phone right now!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oooh, those contests are sounding intriguing. I plan on spending the weekend polishing up the last few pages of my Genesis entry and giving it to my hubby to critique. I know he'll be honest, since that was how we met, in a writing critique class... how's that for a romance? :)

And Debby, your "murderous" weekend sounds awesome! I LOVE that kind of stuff!

(And BTW, I could use a critique from someone other than my husband! Please enter me in the drawing!)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yay Melanie!!! I'm praying for your hubby right now!

I remember those phone calls - so much trepidation - Is this the right job? Will they like him? Will he be able to come up with the right words and phrasing on the spot? Will the dogs behave and not break out in wild barking? - and all without visual cues to know how it's going!

    Oh yes, I'm praying :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. It's snowing here in Paradise. I think I may spend the night at work. Safer than going back out on the streets. Ten inches and counting so far. Oh that Mother Nature.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Eileen, I would then decide based on the final judge.

Where are you in Colorado. At this moment I am knee deep in snow by the Centennial Airport.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jeanne, you can let your one msc DO THE ROUNDS. The important thing is the final judges. They should be different unless you really revised your msc.

    ReplyDelete
  48. We don't have any snow forecast for the next ten days - Tina and Eileen, your storm is just a few hours south of us.

And to think I bought snow boots for the first time in ten years! I thought we'd have snow in South Dakota!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Melanie, that's great news!!! Fingers are crossed!

Stephanie, what a fun way to meet your hubby!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Eileen, since snow is so rare, we get snow days with anything over about an inch of snow. :) People freak out and head to the grocery and clear out the bread and milk if we even have a prediction of snow. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I would love a Seekerville critique! Thanks for this opportunity!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey gang!

Some of you knew this already [don't remember if I actually mentioned it here on Seekerville or not but I have elsewhere - though not my personal facebook until after I talk to my dad later today].

This morning I had a spot of skin cancer removed from my nose. It went fine and they got it all but because of where etc that doc didn't feel like he could fix it only using a local anesthetic. He sent me to a plastic surgeon but he can't fix it until Wednesday. He's going to knock me out and all that. If you could keep me in your prayers I'd appreciate it. I'm feeling a bit stressed and tense about it already but now I have a hole in my nose until then :(.

On the upside, I can call it 'research' and make a character go through the same thing ;). No one else would do that, would they?

Wonder if I could write it off then? :D

My writing should be interesting the last few days given the drugs they're giving me :D. Wowza!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I live in Loveland (don't you think that is appropriate for a romance writer?) and we are still coming down hard. My poor son plows in the winter and he is exhausted.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Missy
I know! My daughter used to teach in Virginia and they would cancel if there was a threat of snow. She used to laugh until the end of the school year when she had to work 6 days extra to make up for missing so much school.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I am most definitely interested in a critique!! so glad I found this group!

  57. Thanks for this info. Tina! I'd never have realized there were SO many contests if not for Seekerville---WOW! ~ Enjoy the goodies I've baked (yes, finally getting back to baking again...)~ Blueberry muffins, Fudge brownies, and Peach Pound cake (all warm from the oven). ~ Happy Weekend! Hugs, Patti Jo :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. p.s. Tina, please send some SNOW to Georgia! I would LOVE just one snow this winter---not a blizzard, just a nice, lovely snow. ;) PJ

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks, Missy! I've only participated in one contest. Now that my wip is pretty much done, I'm redy to jump into more contesting this year. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Prayers, Carol!

My mom went through the same kind of thing about 35 years ago - complete recovery, no recurrences - praying the same results for you!

(I don't remember her with the drugs, though...maybe she hid that part from me...)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Eileen: Are you enjoying the snow today? We're staying indoors and loving watching the snow. I just read further down and see you live in Loveland. Love that town. :)

Melanie: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you get your wished-for present!

Tina: SO sorry you had to drvie into work today. Roads are pretty ugly! Also, thanks for the info about the final judges in contests. That makes a lot of sense. :)

Carol: I'll be praying for you. These are the kinds of times when we are stretched into more of the image of Jesus. Praying.

  64. Sharyn is so enthusiastic she said it twice. WAY TO GO AND WELCOME TO SEEKERVILLE!!

  65. Patti Jo! Where have you been. You have been missed.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hi double Katy! Welcome to Seekerville. Do you know Sharyn?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Loveland, home of the snow and the brave.

I only have to drive home then I can nestle in for the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Tina, safe driving!

Carol, we'll be praying. Let us know how you do.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Eileen,

I'm one street over from Lover's Leap.

No conests for me right now. I need to get more written on my wip first.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Jan, why the wait??? Are we going to get a 'first sale' party every month in Seekerville??

    Praying hard!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thanks for the update! Will check them out! Some look good!

And yay for the judges of the Genesis! Great line up.

Have a good weekend. Safe travels in the snow.

    Cheers,
    Sue

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oh, Carol!!! praying for you!!

I know you're not a prideful woman, but a hole in your nose (besides the ones we already need) is not something you can just brush off. Your feelings are so totally understandable!!

BIG hugs, and lots of hot tea and maybe a chick flick. I'll take the kids for a while to the cyber park and you can just forget about the nose thing. :)

    Prayers and love!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks all! I know it's gonna be all good but still... AND I know I'm gonna wanna be taking pics in a couple weeks because Deb Raney is coming to our local group and I KNOW it won't be healed by then :p. Ah well.

And thanks Ginny but DH/sis just took them all to Sam's ;).

I'm home by myself and counting the minutes until I can take more Tylenol [the good kind - with codeine].

Can't decide if I want to write* or pull out a movie and a blankie...

Or maybe go to sleep... ;)

Now that I've told my dad, I'm posting updates on Facebook too but I'll let y'all know how it goes on Wednesday.

*gave my character skin cancer on her nose - imagine that - but I really did need SOMETHING for them to go through TOGETHER [you know before ripping them apart] and I hadn't come up with anything good

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'm home!!!! The drive wasn't too bad cause I was the only goofball on the road.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Glad you're home safe and sound Tina.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh my. This is so perfect. Just in time for the Genesis. Whoever you choose, they are one lucky story weaver. Good luck all.

    Karen

    ReplyDelete
  77. Praying for you Carol. I had skin cancer a couple years ago, and also went to a plastic surgeon. May you feel God's peace and presence as you wait.

    Blessings,
    Jodie Wolfe

    ReplyDelete
  78. And speaking of the Genesis...good luck to all those entering!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Glad you are home safe Tina. Send some snow to PA. :)

    Blessings,
    Jodie

    ReplyDelete
  80. Question about the query contest. Do we not include our name on the actual letter?

    Jodie Wolfe

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think Ruthy doesn't want you to for the first round when the Seekers are viewing it. After that I imagine the top five going to Barbara will be tweaked. I think that's how she did the last query contest.

But no worries. If it's there she'll fix it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Thanks Tina. I was waiting to submit until I heard something - I'll leave it off. :)

    Blessings,
    Jodie

    ReplyDelete
  83. I would love a romance manuscript critique.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Carol M, adding a prayer for peace of mind and that all will go smoothly for you.
