“There is nothing better than a friend,
unless it is a
friend with chocolate.”
—Linda Grayson
(Left to right: Deb Giusti, moi, Casey Herringshaw, Sandra Leesmith, Cara Lynn James, Mary Connealy, Ruth Logan Herne, Myra Johnson, Audra Harders and Janet Dean)
With or without chocolate—there is no question that
friendship is one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind. I mean, let’s face it—without
friends, our lives would be as cardboard as solo characters in a book if we
didn’t have that cast of subordinate characters to help flesh out our life. You
know, that circle of friends who encourage, stand by us, support us no matter
what?
Whether we’re talking reality or fiction, friendships enriches
our lives as much as it enhances the stories we write, taking the person or the reader to a deeper level that is
more satisfying to both. For instance, in the following scene from A Passion Denied (which—forgive me—I had
a wild hair to include in this blog on friendship because it’s one of my favorite
friendship scenes from all of my books AND it relates), the friendship between the hero John
Brady and his partner Collin McGuire deepens the emotional impact for the
reader (I hope). John Brady are Collin are two men who are like night and day
and yet God bound them together in an unbreakable bond that weathered every
storm—even a past so vile that John couldn’t forgive himself, much less expect
it of his best friend.
The bathroom door
creaked open, and their heads jerked up. They stared, still as stone as Brady
walked into the kitchen, coffee cup limp in his hand. His hygiene was
considerably improved, clean-shaven and hair slicked back, but his eyes were
still red and glassy. Dead and lifeless, Collin thought, and his stomach
twisted. He jumped to his feet. “I have eggs and toast in the oven. More
coffee?”
“No,” Brady
muttered and dropped into a chair. His eyes trained on the half-empty cup in
his hand, his bleary gaze lost in a sea of bitter coffee. “I’m not hungry.”
“Yeah, well you
need a little something other than vodka to sustain that thick head of yours.”
That woke him up.
His head shot up, and the red in his eyes singed like fire. “Go to the devil,
Collin. As if I didn’t pull your head out of the latrine more times than I can
count.”
Collin eased back
into his chair, all humor depleted. “That’s right, John, you did. Which makes
this all the more upsetting. What’s going on?”
Brady closed his
eyes and ran a shaky hand over his face. “I can’t tell you.”
“Why? From the
very beginning, you’ve known everything about me—my past, my present, what I
think, what I feel. The best of friends, closer than brothers. Don’t you think
I deserve the same?”
Brady lowered his
head. “You do, but I can’t tell you.”
Collin’s jaw
tightened. “Why?”
“Because I’m not
ready.”
Collin slammed his
fist on the table. “Not ready for what? To be a friend?”
Brady’s head
lunged up, his eyes swimming with pain. “No, Collin, not ready to lose one.”
Collin released a
slow breath and nodded, finally glancing at Father Mac. “Can you try to get him to eat? I want
him healthy at work tomorrow.” He gave Brady’s shoulder a quick squeeze on his
way to the door. “I’m tired of carrying him.”
“Collin?" Brady's tone was a rasp.
“Yeah?”
“I’ll have half of
day’s work done before you even shadow the door.”
Collin turned,
hand poised on the knob. A muscle convulsed in his throat. “I want you to know, John,
whatever you did, no matter how bad you think it may be, I will stand by you.
I’m proud to call you my friend, because I know who you are—a man of integrity,
honor and passion for God. And nothing—nothing—you
can say will ever change that for me.
Integrity. Honor. A
passion for God. The hallmarks of friendship for Christian authors trying
to reach the world for Christ. We—or let me clarify that—I would be lost without the many incredible friends who have
shored me up on this very difficult path to publication and beyond. From the
sisterhood of The Seekers—dear friends, confidants, prayer partners and
therapists on call—to precious author and blogger friends who have held my hand
through emotional storms and had my back in prayer—THANK YOU for being a touch
of God in my life! And reader friends? Oh my, don’t even get me started—God has
blessed me with friendships beyond my wildest dreams with so many of you that I
am in complete awe of His goodness.
But whether we are talking emotional impact in our lives or
writing OR promotional impact in our careers, without question friendship or
networking is a vital component for every single writer. I mean, seriously—what
good is a writer without a reader? Or
a writer without a friend who’ll tell them the truth in a critique, support them
and their writing or share their knowledge and experience with them? Over the
last so many years, people have often asked me what I did to get published, so
I put together a checklist of the steps I took and guess what? Ironically, four
of the eight involve friendship and networking:
STEPS I TOOK TO GET PUBLISHED:
1.) Join ACFW (American Christian Fiction
Writers at http://www.americanchristianfictionwriters.com/),
FHL (Faith, Hope & Love at http://www.faithhopelove-rwa.org/)
and RWA (Romance Writers of America at http://www.rwanational.org/),
both to get connected with other like-minded writers and to learn a lot about
your craft.
2.) Take a fiction-writing class or attend a
writing seminar or conference.
3.) Join a critique group (you can do that
through ACFW).
4.) Purchase and study writing books such as
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by
Renni Browne and Dave King or Writing the
Breakout Novel by Donald Maas, AND invest in a great thesaurus such as The Synonym Finder by Rodale Press (my
writer’s bible!!).
5.) Enter contests for invaluable feedback,
growth, confidence, networking opportunities and to get your name out there.
6.) Frequent websites/blogs that deal with
writing, such as The Seekers (http://seekerville.blogspot.com/),
a group blog that I belong to whose theme is “On the road to publication. Writing,
contests, publication and everything in between.”
7.) Go for an agent first, publisher second.
8.) Then pray your heart out and put it in
God’s hands.
So, why am I talking about friendship today? Well, because I
have a number of good friends who have been promotional godsends to me and not
only did I want to bless them, but I wanted to bless YOU with their amazing
“free” services as well! As “writers,” the last thing we want to do is take
time to promote our work, and I have found that not only are good friends
invaluable in holding my hand, lifting me up or giving me the benefit of their
advice, but many of them are masters at author promotion as well. Whether you
are an author who wants to advertise your giveaways or blogs or whatever OR a
reader who’s looking for great giveaways and info on freebie e-books, following
are the top ways I do both … with a little bit of help from my friends! ;) NOTE! I have a select few favorite regular blogs I subscribe to because I flat out love the bloggers and their content and they are dear friends, but that's a blog for another day. The following blogs listed are specifically set up to help authors promote their promotions and advise readers of freebies.
1.)
FICTIONADDICTION FIX: Boy, oh boy ... if you like to win free books, then do I have the
website for you!! Hop on over to Fiction Addiction Fix and subscribe free for a
daily update of all the current book giveaways going on in the Christian market—for
me, this is a MUST signup! This site is run by two dynamo aspiring authors and
good friends, Debbie Lynn Costello and Kathleen L. Maher who
are not only kind enough to compile the giveaways, BUT will feature your
giveaway if you are an author looking to promote your book. So readers and
authors alike, take advantage of Fiction Addiction Fix and put this site on
your favorites like I have—you will be totally BLESSED by the ministry of these
two lovely ladies.
2.) THE BOOKCLUB NETWORK: Whoa, baby, whether you are an author
looking to promote OR a reader looking to win free books, you are going to love
The Book Club Network, the brainchild of another dear friend, Nora St. Laurent!
TBCN is a worldwide community of avid readers, book club leaders, club members,
book club leader wannabe’s, bloggers, and authors that promotes wholesome
non-fiction and fiction books as well as helping you find face-to-face and
on-line book clubs to join. Not only is TBCN one of the places that I post all
my promotions and giveaways, but Nora and her husband also write a monthly
TCBN column for the Christian Booksellers Association's Retail Magazine to
feature a “Book of the Month” based on TBCN members’ nominations. I strongly
recommend signing up for this incredible club that's totally free—you won’t be sorry!
3.) THE VESSEL PROJECT: The Vessel
Project was founded by Keiki Hendrix in 2008 as a website dedicated to those
who love Christian books. Its purpose is to present readers with reviews and
information on a wide range of genres and to introduce, promote and publicize
Christian authors and books. The Vessel
Project features book reviews, new releases, book trailers and a
large group of free e-books for Kindle and NOOK as well as many free audiobooks.
The site host reviews from 25 contributing Christian book reviewers from all
walks of life with reading interests in a variety of genres.
4.) CHRISTIAN FICTION GATHERING, CHRISTIAN REVIEW OF BOOKS, CRAZY FOR BOOKS: When I am looking to post promos for my
giveaways or to advertise Seekerville or my own blog Journal Jots, I ALWAYS
post it on these three wonderful group sites, which not only allow me to reach a
broad reading audience for my blog and giveaways, but also provides me with lots
of interesting reading, giveaways and freebie notices.
FREE AND SALE
E-BOOK SITES!!
1.)
INSPIRED READS: Okay, this is one of my favorite “freebie” sites because it sends me
regular e-mails announcing the latest free or on-sale e-books, so I never miss
any I may want, so just sign up for the e-mail notices.
2.)
WORDSALT: Not only is
this a new promo blog for authors, but it also features interviews with
Christian authors, practical writing tips for new and “seasoned” writers, and
book reviews as well as lots of freebie writer’s books and freebie e-books for both fiction and nonfiction.
So, remember … if you’re looking for free promotion and free
books, you can find what you’re looking for … with a little bit of help from my friends!
Leave a tip for an author promotion or freebie blog or just
a comment for a chance to win your choice of any of my books, including my
upcoming release A Love Surrendered.
NOTE: Separate second drawing for choice of any of my books for those who tell me they sign up to follow SEEKERVILLE, Fiction Addiction Fix, TBCN or Vessel Project (3 points each in this drawing) or any of the "Free and Sale E-book Sites" mentioned (1 point each). This will be a random drawing, but your chances increase with every point entered. NOTE: This does not include my points given to get published -- ONLY the promotional websites mentioned.

Thanks for the GR8 info here. I always love it when Mom reads to me what you PAWSOME Seekers write. We learn a lot!
♥♥~ from May, the K9 Spy ~♥♥
I've already won ALS thanks to my friend Julie :D.
ReplyDeleteAnd Julie day!!! I love Julie day!!!
[Okay - I love all Seeker days but you know...]
I did wave at you twice last weekend - once on the way to St Loo and once on the way home. One of these days I'll stop in for a hug.
I'm already on Inspired Reads FB page but will sign up for the others tomorrow.
If I never, ever get published, the journey I've gone on in this writing biz is worth it because of the friends I've made. Seekers, Seeker friends, and so many others.
Specifically, Beth Vogt, Jessica [Keller] Koschnitzky and Kristy Cambron have been such amazing friends the last few months. I thank God for them [and so many others] on a daily basis.
Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI am already a member of Fiction Addiction and TBCN I just liked Vessel project on facebook and am a friend on twitter couldn't find how to subscribe.
I love Insired reads get it every morning.
Would love to be entered to win your new book.
I would love a copy of A Love Surrendered about Annie and Steven! Gotta love those Irish! ~*~ Kathleen
ReplyDeletelanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net
I'm doing well on that numbered checklist, trying to do #7 right now as we "speak" (got the editor request from a contest win but trying to grab one of my preferred agents prior to submitting if possible) and #8!!!
ReplyDeleteI hear there will be a Moncado in an upcoming Julie book, that's so fun!
I'm sadly behind on reading I have yet to start your second series, but I got the first two in it, so I could use the third if I so happen to be drawn from the hat.
I am so glad for the internet and connections to other writers for as far as I know there are only about 5 people in this area that write fiction, and only a teen at my church that writes anything near what I do, so it would be rather lonely here in the sticks for this writer if I couldn't play online. And I'd say that a few of my best friends are some of the people I met as online crit partners or at conference, and when you gain friends as slowly as I do, it's been a blessing.
I am subscribed to FictionAddiction Fix.
ReplyDeletelanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net
I receive e-mails for Novel Rocket.
ReplyDeletelanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net
I am a subscriber of SEEKERVILLE. Love finding out what you all are doing!
ReplyDeletelanehillhouse[at]centurylink[dot]net
Let's see... on your list, Julie dear...
ReplyDeleteStill trying to find a true "home" as far as #3 [crit group/partner] is concerned though I have a couple irons in the fire and a couple of friends who will at least do quick read throughs and tell me if something's working or not.
#4 - I have Self-Editing but not the other two...
#7 - well, I'd love an agent and am trying that, but the one MS that's done so well in contests has struck out with all the agents I'm interested in who are taking unsolicited queries so moving on from it. That said, I'm working on a historical [yeah! Me! Maybe it needs a Myra... ;)] and those two peeps up in #3 have said that my first draft of it is the best thing of mine they've seen to date so am contemplating pitching it at the LI/S/H speed date in a couple weeks. So that would be an editor first [IF anything came of it] but I'm trying... :D.
And now, a couple hundred words, then bedtime :D.
Great tips and sites, Thanks! I was happy to Lynn Dove's site Wordsalt listed here.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for the fiction addiction and also I am already signed up for TCBN. I would LOVE to win your new book. I own all of them up to this point. =)
ReplyDeleteBattles2001@hotmail.com
A fabulous article....thanks for sharing, julie :)
ReplyDeleteI signed up for ALL of your recommendations!

Wow! That excerpt from your book was amazing. I want to know what happens next and what the big secret is. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing today. Seekerville is the only blog I follow, but I am definitely going to check out the sites you suggested.
These resources are invaluable, Julie. Thank you for posting them! It's always nice to see some familiar faces (I'm a follower of Vessel Project and Fiction Addiction Fix) as well as those that are new to me.
ReplyDeleteAnd, it's wonderful to have a circle of friends to help and encourage you along the way. I've found there aren't a lot of non-writers that understand the sometimes morose and introverted species! ;)
Excellent article! It's funny, because my dad approached me about promoting his books that he is going to have epublished. They were published by Thomas Nelson awhile back and he now has the rights to them. So this list is AWESOME! Great timing...thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm already a follower of TCBN and Vessel Project and am now a follower of Fiction Addiction Fix. :)
Wonderful post and thanks for mentioning TBCN. FYI we have some HUGE giveaways going on and in August we will be giving away more than 300 books!
ReplyDeletePhred
I forgot about that scene between Collin and Brady. What a tribute to having a true friend! I've been blessed to be able to have several true friends in my life. Two of them I consider sisters.
ReplyDeleteI'll be checking out all of those blogs & freebie sites this evening when I have time (after work as I'm about head off to get ready) and I'll leave a comment telling you which ones I signed up for.
I'd love to be entered in the drawing to win Love Surrendered!
Thanks for the chance.
Oh yeah, you can expect me to pop in ANYTIME on a Julie Lessman blog or whatever else she's writing. SO proud to be able to call her a friend!
ReplyDeleteJulie this is just perfect, because now that summer is here, reading is in my list...looking right now for some good books. And some websites have FREE giveaways, you said??? You had me at hello!
Thanks for the e-mail, I appreciate it! And now that I know that you're working on a brand new book, you can certainly count on my prayers, but you know that already, don't you?
Blessings, prayers, smiles, hugs and sunshines all to wish you a wonderful day and to thank you for your precious friendship :)
Ganise
Brady and Collin's friendship is awesome! Truly.
ReplyDeleteGanise
Julie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the links. I will persue them all later this evening.
Julie, great post! I love, love, love the excerpt!! Wish I'd written it. :-)
ReplyDeleteWriting is a solitary calling. Can't imagine doing it without friends. Without everyone here in Seekerville! But I need face-to-face time with friends, too. Amazing to see that there are people who actually talk about something besides writing. LOL
Thanks, Julie, for the impressive list of links to promotion sites! I keep promising myself I'll get better at that.
Janet
Happy Barkday, May!!
ReplyDeleteJanet
Julie, You are a sweetheart! And I'm so thankful that our paths crossed. My life is richer because of it. You've got to be one of the most UP people I've ever met. Thank you so much for sharing our blog with your readers today. I've made some awesome friends from our blog. God blesses us through it daily.
ReplyDeleteJulie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great list of promotional sites. I already belong to TBCN, and will check out the others. As for the to do list I've done all but #3 and I'm in the process of #7 (I just keep flooding the query boxes until someone picks up the phone). :o)
Friends, online and in person, are so important. And not only writer friends, but those that don't even understand why we hear voices, but cheer us on even as they call for the men in white. :o) I think that's why I always give my hero and heroine a good friend, because I've been blessed with so many including all the wonderful Seekers and Seeker friends.

Fiction Addiction Fix is a fantastic idea, isn't it? And not only for authors with giveaways, but for bloggers with giveaways. I use it all the time.
ReplyDeleteLove all this friendly networking available online. This community of writers and readers is incredible! Love the passion for inspirational fiction.
Counting down the days until I get to read A Love Surrendered. You've just whet my appetite with your Collin/Brady snippet -- and that was a great example of friendship -- really brought depth to both characters and makes the reader fall in love with them both a little bit more.
What a great giveaway! I haven't read any of your books yet, but my best friend has told me great things about them! Please enter me!
ReplyDeleteI signed up for Fiction Addiction Fix!
lubell1106(at)gmail(dot)com
Wow, this looks like a lot of fun! I don't have any advice, but I'd love to win a copy of one of your books- they look great!

Dear Julie the Passionate One,
ReplyDeleteHere is how I have done so far this year:
1. Just got my RWA number so I can sign up for Moonlight and Magnolias at a discount. ACFW and FHL will be in the budget for coming months. I hate being on a budget.
2.) Moonlight and Magnolias
3.) I found my critique friends through Seekerville. How can I say thank you? Oh, yeah, chocolate.
4.) The writing reference section of my kindle is filling up.
5.) You all are going to have to prod me on this one.
6.) Seekerville! May I add that all you LURKERS need to stop lurking and put yourselves out there. I am a fount of ignorance at times but my questions are always answered, suggestions have been given gently, AND almost two years of "just being a reader I am writing."
7.) Boy, have I learned about this from my friends. Some day...
8.) Then pray your heart out and put it in God’s hands. Yep!
Now to go check out the websites.
And a reminder that #1K1HR is a great way to keep accountable and make strides in production!
Thanks for another great post.
Peace, Julie the Peaceful One
Julie, THANK you so much for being so gracious and mentioning our blog. It is truly a pleasure to promote talented authors heralding the message of hope. Keep up the great work, reaching people's hearts through story. Many blessings,
ReplyDeleteKathy Maher
Great post Julie, Lots of resources for promotion which is important in this day and age as authors are expected to promote themselves and have a social media presence.
ReplyDeleteLoved the scene which brought back that lovely novel.
Hey I brought some chocolate velvet coffee. I have an assortment of fruit also. Don't you just love this time of year? Cherries are arriving from Washington and BC. I have a super sized bowl full.
Good morning all!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've realized I need about 4K a day to be nearly done in time for LIH pitches. That's my goal for the day.
Oh - and that Seekerville place?
I *think* I've heard of it...
;)
MAY, HAPPY BARKDAY!!! I've had today marked on my calendar for at least a week now, so hope it's the best dog-gone barkday a pooch ever had!! Be sure to milk it for all it's worth with KC, sweetie ... or maybe I should say ... milk-bone it!! :)
ReplyDeleteCAROL!!! LOVE your fly-by hugs, darlin', but I sure could use the real thing ... uh, WITHOUT chocolate chip cookies 'cause I'm on a Fitness Pal diet. See??? Even my diet has a word for "friends" in it ... ;)
JENNY!!! Good girl -- you now have 13 pts., darlin', and I added you to Christian Review of Books, okay?
Hugs,
Julie
Wonderful post, Julie. Friendships and relationships are the keys to spreading word about your novels. After all, your friends can be your strongest promoters.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links. I signed up for all of them!! With a new book coming out in August, I needed new avenues to promote it!
Great, great stuff here, Julie! So much info in so few words...I'm proud of you, my friend : )
ReplyDeleteThese are great sites to visit and wonderful advice for finding your true friends in the publishing industry.
Your step number 7 says to go for an agent before a publisher. Did you try to submit A Passion Most Pure to publishers before you scored your top-notch agent?
Terrific advice, Jules. And of course, I always love the excerpts from your books...makes me want to go back and read 'em again : )
KATHLEEN!!! I'm with you, darlin' -- EVERYTHING IRISH!!! You have 7 pts., girl, including following Seekerville -- THANK YOU for mentioning that because I added that to the contest.
ReplyDeleteJENNY, you now have 16 pts. because I KNOW you are a follower of Seekerville, so you can thank Kathleen above!!
MELISSA, YES!!! I will have a Moncado in my book, but Carol opted to put her grandma in instead of her own name -- isn't that sweet??? And got you down for 18 pts., darlin'.
PLEASE NOTE: THE SECOND DRAWING WILL BE A RANDOM DRAWING, BUT YOUR CHANCES ARE INCREASED WITH EVERY POINT.
Hugs,
Julie
CAROL, sweetie ... the points accrued are only for the promo site you sign up for, not my list of things I did to get published, but nice try ... ;)
ReplyDeleteSo you have 6 points in the random drawing, 3 for following Seekerville and 3 for Inspired Reads, right?
TRACY ... yeah, I just met Lynn a while back and wanted to include her new blog because I think she does a great job.
MELISSA B -- YAY, girl, consider yourself in both contests, my friend and GOOD LUCK!!
HUGS,
JULIE
Hey, KAREN, THANK YOU, sweetie!! You are now in both contests, darlin'!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, ANNIE -- I appreciate your sweet comment on that excerpt. Don't know if you have read any of my books, but if not, I have an excerpts page on my website that lists my favorite love scenes and spiritual scenes from each of my books, so that will give you a good idea of the kind of PASSION I put in my writing, both spiritually and romantically. Here's the link:
http://www.julielessman.com/excerpts/
AMANDA, THANK YOU!! You are entered in both contests, my friend, and you are SO "write"!! Sometimes it takes a writer to understand another writer ... we're a wee bit on the eccentric side, or at least I am and proud of it!! ;)
Hugs,
Julie
SHERRINDA ... that is SO cool about your dad!!! So writing's in the blood, eh? ;) Got you entered in both contests, so GOOD LUCK, my friend!!
ReplyDeletePHRED ... my absolute pleasure, my friend!! Not only is TBCN absolutely FABULOUS, but I happen to think the very same thing about your lovely wife!
DAWN, thanks for coming by before work, my friend, and I hope it's a WONDERFUL day!!
Hugs,
Julie
GANISE!!! ALWAYS good to see you here, girl!! LOL about your comment: "And some websites have FREE giveaways, you said??? You had me at hello!" Yes, free is good for both readers AND authors, so go for it. Let me know which ones you subscribe to, darlin', so I can include you in the 2nd contest, okay? And I've told you before, but it bears repeating: your prayers and your friendship mean more than I can say!!
ReplyDeleteROSE ... you're an evening peruser like me because I don't let myself sit back and relax to read blogs till the work is done ... ;)
JANET ... LOL, then we're even, my friend, because there are SO many scenes of yours that I wished I had written too! :)
Hugs,
Julie
Julie, what a great post! Thanks for the resources. I hadn't even thought about the promo end of things yet. I feel so far away from that point. :) I will check out some of these sites later on.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your enthusiasm and your knowledge. What a blessing to those of us walking behind you on this road.
DEBBIE LYNN ... trust me, my friend, I'm ECSTATIC our paths have crossed -- you have been SUCH a blessing to me, truly. And talk about "UP" personality -- you are a kite in my life! ;)
ReplyDeleteKIRSTEN ... LOL, you did the same thing Carol M did, so great minds, I guess, but the list of things I did to get published is not part of the contest, unfortunately, only the promo sites you sign up for, so I've got you entered in both contests, my friend. GOOD LUCK!!
KAV, YES!! Fiction Addiction is such a MUST for me or any author, truly. And THANK YOU for your kind words about the scene today AND for your enthusiasm for ALS -- MUCH appreciated!! You also said: "Love all this friendly networking available online." I am SO with you on that, Kav, and I LOVE IT!!
HUGS,
Julie
ELYSSA!!! PLEASE tell your friend THANK YOU for me, okay, and thank YOU for signing up for FA too! You are entered in both contests now and like I told Annie above, you can read my favorite romantic and spiritual excerpts from each of my books on my website. Here's the link if you're interested because hopefully it will give you an idea just why your friend is pushing my books: http://www.julielessman.com/excerpts/
ReplyDeleteJENNY, no advice needed, girl, we're just glad you came by, so GOOD LUCK in the contest!!
WHOA, JULIE H.S., way to go, girl!!! I'm tired just reading your list and THANK YOU for prodding those lurkers -- that deserves an extra point in the contest, for sure! ;)
Hugs,
Julie

KATHY (do you prefer that over KATHLEEN??) -- it is my absolute pleasure to promote a website and two love ladies who have added so much to my life, so you go, girls!!
ReplyDeleteHey, SANDRA, thanks for the Chocolate Velvet coffee, girl -- I kind of jumped right in to comments and forgot all about breakfast!! Thanks for the reminder, my friend!
So, to remedy that, we have cheese blintzes, cinnamon nut kringles and peach cobbler to go along with that coffee ... oh, and hazelnut coffee and peppermint tea as well!
Hugs,
Julie

ReplyDeleteHi Julie:
ReplyDeleteI remember this passage well:
Collin slammed his fist on the table. “Not ready for what? To be a friend?”
Brady’s head lunged up, his eyes swimming with pain. “No, Collin, not ready to lose one.”
At the time I first read this I thought that if you read these lines to Papa Hemingway, with his love of writing ‘one true sentence after another’, that Papa would be so jealous that the first words out of his mouth would be:
“Do you want to box?”
I must say that you are the one author who in each book will write something so good that it makes me feel like it was an honor to buy your book. (Like buying season Opera tickets.)
My philosophy of friendship.
“A true friend is not one who will tell you the truth regardless of the irreparable harm it may cause. A true friend genuinely knows when to tell the truth and when to gracefully dance around it.”
Vince
P.S. I want to buy your book so I can be a ‘verified’ reviewer. : )
P.P.S. I already have 1,100 free books on my Kindle! I can assure you that the ones I am going to read first are the ones I paid for! It is far better to give someone a discount or coupon for one of your books than it is to give it away – that is, if you want the book to be actually read. Think marketing.
P.P.P.S. I had a typo in my first comment and I was not going to live with it today!!! : )
CAROL ... YOU GO, GIRL!! I know you can do it. And Seekerville?? I think I've heard of it too ...
ReplyDeleteLISA ... amen to that, darlin', and WHOO-HOO on that new book -- can't wait to read it!! I have you entered in both contests, so GOOD LUCK!!
AUDRAKINS!!! LOL about your statement: "So much info in so few words...I'm proud of you, my friend : )" I'm working on short and sweet in my writing, you little brat, so thanks for noticing! ;)
YOU ASKED: Your step number 7 says to go for an agent before a publisher. Did you try to submit A Passion Most Pure to publishers before you scored your top-notch agent?
ROTFLOL ... Uh, yeah, thus the hard-earned knowledge to go for the agent first. I'm thinking I queried about 45 publishers on my own before I even STARTED to query agents, but I didn't include them in my actual "rejection" count of 46 because so many of them I never even heard back from. The count of 46 rejections on APMP are actual rejection letters that also include 24 agents. But ... it only takes one yes, right??
Hugs,
Julie
Oh wow, Jules, this was FANATASTIC! Loved it!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many times friends have been an encouragement to me both on and off the page :-)
Whether it's tough love (Ruth Logan HERNE) or massive amounts of positive energy (YOU) or the comradery that only comes from people with like passions in God and writing (The WRITERS ALLEY PALS), I have been overwhelmed by God's goodness.
And, as I take Mama Ruthy's and Mary's advice to WRITE, WRITE, WRITE, I know that these encouragers will be willing to help me find my way through the crazy tornado of publication.
If good news travels fast - then bind it and it travels even faster :-) It's a wonderful network and community.
Btw, Audra - your new pic (new to me, anyway) is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay - I already followed Novel Rocket and Book Club Network. Now following WordSalt, Vessel Project and Fiction Addiction :).
ReplyDeleteAnd I know that's now where the points come from Jules. But Melissa mentioned where she was with those things so I did too :D.
Off to work on my 4K for the day. I think I need to shoot someone. ;)
JEANNE T ... thanks, my friend, and YES, you will definitely need these sits when the time comes ... and it will!! ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL,NORA!!! I think I just found somebody with more passion than me!! ;) No wonder we love each other, eh? Soooo glad to get the word out, Nora, because you are one of my FAVORITE people ... and TBCN one of my favorite blogs!!
PEPPER!!! You know what?? I miss you, sweetie, so I KNOW you must be taking Mary and Ruthy's advice to "write, write, write," because I have not talked to you in so long, it seems!! Yes, I would have to say that the friends one makes in the writing community are one of the greatest blessings a writer takes away at the end of the day ... OR the end of the book! :)
Hugs,
Julie
Jules,
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say I was taking Ruthy and Mary's advice as much as I'd like, but.... Life's been happening in basketloads, and writing has to move down the list.
Until the past week...and NOW, I'm back in the 'groove'
One scene away from the end of my WIP and READY to being the next book! YAY!
This is such a sweet blog today I shared it w/my critique partners.
ReplyDeleteRoad to publication would be an awful lonely road w/out friends.
Thank you Seekerville. Ya'll are the best.
Connie
VINCE!!! As usual, you leave me speechless ... not literally, of course, because nobody's been able to do that yet, unfortunately, but close ... ;)
ReplyDeleteYour incredible comments always deserve a response in a comment all its own, so here goes:
You said: "I must say that you are the one author who in each book will write something so good that it makes me feel like it was an honor to buy your book. (Like buying season Opera tickets.)"
Okay, this is possibly one of the nicest things anyone ever said to me because I am SO huge on great lines in a book that grab me by the throat to make me savor them for longer than a quick pass. I know, I know, I read once that when writing is too good or profound (in fiction), that's not always a good thing because it pulls people out of the story, but I'm sorry -- I LOVE GREAT LINES that make me stop and go, "WOW!" So if I can do that at least once a book, I am in hog heaven, so THANK YOU for that, Vince, truly!
Regarding your "philosophy of friendship" -- LOVE IT (just like I do with most of your comments because you are truly one of a kind and so are your comments!!)
“A true friend is not one who will tell you the truth regardless of the irreparable harm it may cause. A true friend genuinely knows when to tell the truth and when to gracefully dance around it.”
LOL ... soooooo true!! Some of my best friends are dancers who could rival those on Dancing With the Stars!! ;)
1,100 free books on KINDLE????? HOLY FREAKIN' COW ... how many books does a Kindle hold anyway??? And I am SO with you on that -- I have yet to read a Kindle freebie because I have so many paperbacks I have to read, but someday ...
Thanks again, Vince, for being SUCH an incredible support to Seekerville and for just being YOU!
Hugs,
Julie
Happy Birthday/barkday, May!
ReplyDeleteAnd Carol has ALS??? Who knew????
Hey, I love havin' friends in this biz. It just makes me smile. The Internet has taken what was once a singular profession and transformed it into a network.
We are truly blessed.
Dave brought home Entenmann's Pastries Cherry Cheese Danish and oh my stars, you will be all over lovin' on this stuff!
Fresh coffee, too!
Pepper, good girl.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, there are no short cuts in publishing.
None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. If someone tells you otherwise, they're selling something.
Work. Write. Work. Write. Weave your heart and life into your stories and then...
Work. Write. Work. Write....
And if you truly love writing, I can't imagine it feels like work.
Am I the only one that feels that way????
PEPPER ... I'm with you -- Audra's new pic is BEEE-U-TIFUL ... just like Audrakins!!
ReplyDeleteCAROL SAID: "Off to work on my 4K for the day. I think I need to shoot someone. ;)" As long as it's not me, darlin', I'm okay with that ... :) Got you loaded up with points in the second contest, girl, so GOOD LUCK!!
PEPPER SAID: "One scene away from the end of my WIP and READY to being the next book! YAY!"
WHOA, BABY, WAY TO GO!!! That is SUCH a good feeling, isn't it??? Both wrapping up the last book AND starting the next. I just did that in the last few weeks, too, and WHAT A RUSH!!
Hugs,
Julie
That's right, Ruthy.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's not work...until you get to the end and you REALLY want to move to the next book, but you KNOW you ahve the finish the current book.
Then...it feels a little like work :-)
But I'm in the process of changing jobs too - so I'm hoping and praying that will allow for more family time AND writing time. I'm feeling good about God's changes in my life right now...and upward momentum about this writing gig ;-)
Thanks Ruthy for your faithful prodding.
Thanks Jules, for your constant encouragement.
I LOVE Seekerville!
And The Writers Alley!
Fabulous places with fabulous folks!
Hey, CONNIE, thanks SO much for sharing the blog with your CPs -- MUCH appreciated, my friend. And you said: "Road to publication would be an awful lonely road w/out friends."
ReplyDeleteOh, AMEN TO THAT!!
RUTHY SAID: "And Carol has ALS??? Who knew????" LOL ... I'm sure it's news to CM! And, YES, we are "truly blessed" with our profession and the network of incredible people we hook up with ... AND the dee-lish Cherry Cheese Danish, too, of course -- THANKS, RUTHY!!
RUTHY ALSO SAID: "And if you truly love writing, I can't imagine it feels like work. Am I the only one that feels that way????" No, you are not the only one, Ruthy, but when you throw "promotion" in the writing mix, YUCK!! Let me just pound away on that keyboard and forget that I have to convince people to buy my book ... :)
HUGS,
Julie
May here,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to tell you how much your support and PAWSOME friendship means to Mom and me.
You are definitely honorary members of my pack. True FURiends are hard to come by...
MWAH!
Love from May
OKAYYYYYY - ENOUGH SAPPY STUFF. /backflip/
Bring your four footers on by and let's play!
(If Miss Carol doesn't shoot someone AT my barkday party, it'll be ok. Right? Did you see where we're having it? Miss Julie Hilton Steele's castle! WAWZAH!)
Mr. Vince, bring Aristotle and let's have FUN. Miss Ruthy can bring chickens (we have a hamster so far, and a bunny - but no chickens yet!) and Miss Mary can bring a cow or two... BOL!
Thanks for making my 12th Barkday the bestest ever!!!
Bye!!!
Wow, Julie, thanks for sharing these great resources! A few of them are definitely new to me, so I'll be checking them out soon. You are a promo pro, girl!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to add that my Seeker friends are some of the dearest gals on the face of the planet! I love you like sisters, each and every one!
ReplyDeleteAnd what a blessing that we've been able to extend our friendship to so many writers and readers through Seekerville! Our followers are the greatest!
Thanks for this great post, JULIE, and I have shared it on FB and with our ACFW MidAtlantic group. God is so good--He knows who to put around us to support us and who to remove from our paths because they are a stumbling block. I thank God for the wonderful example you have been to all of us in your journey. God bless and keep you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list, Julie. I haven't heard of hardly any of them and I don't use them at all.
ReplyDeleteI need to get my act together!!!!
Hey, Julie!!!!!!!! Great, great, great post! So true and helpful. What a wonderful resource this blog is! You guys are so generous to share your wealth of knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI am working on some killer edits. I am feeling my pain and yours too, from some of your killer edits!!! LOL Oh my. If only I could write it perfectly, and edit perfectly, before my editors sees it. I almost feel sorry for my awesome editor, for what she has to tell me to fix. (My editor, BTW, is one of three finalists in the ACFW Editor of the Year! WOOHOO! Jacque Alberta is amazing.)
Me? I'm feeling less than amazing, and feeling that my book is less than amazing! There always comes that point where you have been slaving and working and AGONIZING over your edits and you suddenly think, This book is TERRIBLE!!! And you wonder if you should put in a disclaimer at the beginning to your fans who have waited for this book, to apologize to them that it's not as good as your previous books. At least *I* always seem to come to that point. I came to that point yesterday. I wanted to cry. I keep praying, God, help me to take out what I'm supposed to take out and add what I'm supposed to add.
Well, that was an eyeful, wasn't it? LOL!!! This is really a great post, Julie. I love the list of things you did on your journey to getting published. Mine would look very similar to that! Thanks for your great posts. You don't do anything halfway, Julie!!! Has anyone ever told you that? :-) Love ya.
A great post, a wonderful reminder and so honored to be able to say what a dear friend you are to me, Julie!
ReplyDeleteTHANKS Again Julie for having us here. The feelings mutual! Yes, I am passionate about authors who write Christian Fiction. Not only has it affected my life, and turned it around in unexpected ways. I've seen how it's affected the members of my book club.
ReplyDeleteI know that you all can write for any market you want and I APPRECIATE the fact that you are faithful to write what the Lord has laid on your heart!! You ALL are on the front lines and I just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers often!!
THANK YOU for your faithfulness, your passion and for what you write!! YOU ARE ALL A BLESSING!! Just wanted to let you know publically!!

I'm not sure you mentioned this one, Julie, but Tyndale House has something called ebook extra newsletter where they email you to let you know when they're giving away one of their books free as an ebook for a limited time. Go to the Tyndale website to subscribe. I just got an email saying they have one of Dee Henderson's ebooks for free on Kindle, Nook, etc.
ReplyDeleteJulie, thank you for all of this great information and another fun Julie Day! I signed up for Fiction Addiction and TBCN and joined Christian Fiction Gathering.
ReplyDeleteWow, Julie. What a great list of valuable places to head to on the web! I've been to some of them, and will head to the others once I come out of my writing cave this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are oh-so-right about friendship - on-line or in person, nothing makes our lives richer than friends! I'm so glad to have my Seekerville friends to cheer on my writing dream - you guys are the best :)
(Can hardly WAIT to meet Seekervillians and friends in person in Dallas!)
I loved your list of steps to get published, too. No short-cuts, but tons of fun along the way. And, lo and behold, I've gone through all seven steps, and what do I find at the end? A publishing contract! Not only good advice, but PROVEN good advice.
And Ruthy, I only call writing "work" because then people will leave me alone and let me do it. I tell my children "give me until noon, and then you can talk to me." Most of the time they listen...
WOW! 70 comments already?? The friends have come out of the wooodwork!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check on all these links. :)
And I love that scene. I want that friendship.
YIKES!!!! My Internet went down for two hours and hubby is out somewhere on a lake fishing!!! He is my Mr. Fix-It, or in his terms, my BB (Butt Boy)!! ;) BUT ... I tracked him down via cell phone, and he got me up and running, so now back to the comments ...
ReplyDeletePEPPER ... I love Seekerville, too, AND the Writers Alley -- some of my favorite folks in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD are over there, including you, my friend!!
KC ... can't believe you and My ducked out of the barkday party to come back to say hi -- MUCHO GRACIAS, my friend!! Now, back to the party ... :)
Hugs,
Julie
People think that writers are recluses. Not so! We especially need supportive friends who understand us. Great post!
ReplyDeletePeople think that writers are recluses. Not so! We especially need supportive friends who understand us. Great post!
ReplyDeleteMYRA ... "a promo pro"??? Hardly, darlin', although like May, I have learned a few tricks over the years, so that "old dog" slam that you can't teach me??? Doesn't hold water!! And DITTO on the sisterhood of Seekers AND our Seeker friends -- THE BEST, bar none!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, MARE, this is possibly the 2nd best compliment I've gotten today after Vince's -- you mean I know something Mary Connealy -- QUEEN OF PROMO -- doesn't??? WHOO-HOO, it's a hog-heaven day when I can teach you something, my friend!!
MEL!!! Oh, honey, I feel your pain truly ... but cheer up ... at least YOUR editor didn't make YOU cut 50,000 words from your ms., right??? And SUPER CONGRATS to your editor for the nomination -- VERY cool!!
MEL SAID: "You don't do anything halfway, Julie!!! Has anyone ever told you that? :-)" LOL ... more than once, I'm sorry to say. I am QUEEN OF ANALITY, trust me, which is why I quit having dinner parties -- took too long to pipe those initials in the twice-baked potatoes!! ;)
And, MEL, I feel for you with you thinking your books are not good while you are writing/editing them. My poor hubby goes CRAZY every book of mine because I am just sure it is garbage. Fortunately, Revell keeps buying them, and trust me, they don't buy garbage. Same with you, girl! The Christy Awards do NOT nominate garbage!!
Hugs,
Julie
CASE ... right back at ya, my sweet friend!! I count it as one of my greatest blessings that God brought you into my life. :)
ReplyDeleteNORA ... aw, thanks, my dear friend!! We authors appreciate people like you and blogs like yours to help us get the word out. GO TBCN!!
TEENSTER ... you are MORE than welcome. Hope these sites help you as much as they help me!
Hugs,
Julie
MEL ... GREAT suggestion about Tyndale's newsletter, girl -- I get it, too! Go sign up, everybody!!
ReplyDeleteDONNA ... thanks SO much for signing up for those sites -- got you entered in both contests today, girlfriend, so GOOD LUCK!!
Oooo, JAN, great ploy to keep people from interrupting your writing time!! And necessary now more than ever with a book contract under your belt -- WHOO-HOO!! How I wish I could see you at ACFW this year, but this is one year I am sitting out, so hopefully we'll get our hugs in NEXT year in Indy!!
Hugs,
Julie
Aw, VIRGINIA, what a sweet thing to say about that scene!! Yeah, the friendship between Brady and Collin is probably the most special one in all of my books, rivaled only by Charity and Emma's!
ReplyDeleteBRANDI SAID: "People think that writers are recluses. Not so! We especially need supportive friends who understand us. Great post!"
Thanks, girl, and you are SO right -- nobody needs supportive friends more than writers. I like to call myself a recluse who has the misfortune of having an outgoing personality because I am content sitting in my comfy chair on my lower deck with my feet up and a laptop in my lap, never going anywhere. But my better half, who swears my butt is growing roots into the chair, drags me out upon occasion, which is good for me. But even though I may almost never socialize outside of my house, I am no recluse on the Net, where all my BESTEST friends reside. Good luckin the contest, my friend! :)
Hugs,
Julie
Yeah, I was responding to the post content b/c of the content rather than the giveaway because I'm not too worried about getting your book since I'll buy it when I get to that point in the series if I don't win it in the meantime by some offhanded blog comment.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do have to say that I was thrown for a loop that the post was so short, I had to double check that you were the author when it ended so soon. :)
As for actually paying attention to the rules . . . . I follow seekerville, fiction addiction, novel rocket, TBCN, inspired reads
Hey there, Julie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the list of sites, I will have to check them out when I get home from work. Free books are the best kind! (Except when they're not, but a FREE Julie Lessman is like Christmas, Easter and my birthday in one!)
I must say I have been so blessed to find a group of writers nearby. The Iowa/Nebraska group has been so much fun and encouraging! Writers may work in solitude but we can't do the rest of the journey alone!
Have a great day!
Alrighty then. I think I need more friends.
ReplyDeleteI do so many of those things... and am beginning to think paying people to get my books might be the way to go.
:-)
I am a member of ACFW have been since it was ACRW.
I get my Fiction Addiction
I'm part of TCBN... and like TCBY too
Getting email from Vessel Project
Am part of the Christian Fiction Gathering
And have been a friend of Seekerville for a couple of months at least
:-)
I still laugh about you piping your guests' initials in their twice baked potatoes, Julie!
ReplyDeleteMELISSA SAID: "And I do have to say that I was thrown for a loop that the post was so short, I had to double check that you were the author when it ended so soon. :)"
ReplyDeleteYOU LITTLE BRAT, YOU -- I'm trying to reform, although it ain't easy, I can tell you ... :)
STEPH!! Hey, girl, soooo glad you found a group of writer friends close by!! And you are SO right ... we may have to write when we're alone, but NO WAY can we get published or grow or enjoy the writing life without fellow writer friends!
STEPH ALSO SAID: "A FREE Julie Lessman is like Christmas, Easter and my birthday in one!" Aw, THANK YOU, my friend -- SO appreciate that!!
TINA SAID: "I'm part of TCBN... and like TCBY too!"
LOL ... you are a hoot, girl ... just the way I like my friends!! ;) Consider yourself entered in both contests, darlin'!
Hugs,
Julie
The first few times I logged on to Seekerville it was so hard to read because I had tears in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI knew there were Christian writers because I read Christian books but at last I FOUND them. I really cannot say because there really is NOT room but my seeker friends have been my lifeline these last several months and I want to thank you sincerely for your comments on my comments and putting up with my not very sugarcoated remarks. I don't know how that is because M&Ms re my faves but thank you all for being my friends in deed. And in read and in feed and in Speed--bo.
Hey Julie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all these great sites! I will check each and every one.
Love your list. The fact that I'm down near the bottom (at the agent/editor part) makes me feel really good. I HAVE been making progress!
One of the best things for me was finding Seekerville! (Thank you Tina!) The support and encouragement here has saved my writer's life many times!! LOL.
Cheers,
Sue
Hi Julie! =)
ReplyDeleteHope things have been going well so far! Alright, so I just signed up for Seekerville and Fiction Addiction. But Julie I have plans on canceling this e-mail and making another one later on in the year. How do I unsuscribe-- or what happens, really?
So grateful that I am getting involved into this community with GREAT people like you and SEEKERVILLE, of course! Did I mention that you people are just AWESOME??!!
;)
Ganise
Julie, thanks for all the great information! Where did you hear about all these blogs? And where have I been all these years? I haven't heard of half of them. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteJulie, thanks for the list of blogs and websites!!! Fantastic info for all of us in Seekerville.
ReplyDeleteMay I borrow a Ruthie-ism for the occasion? OH My STARS! We have gained nine new followers over at fiction addiction fix today. I am humbled and blessed by all of you who have showed such support today. Huge thanks to each one of you!
ReplyDeleteSeekerville was my very first blog follow shortly after I joined ACFW in 2008. You all have been a powerful force for good in my writing life, and I am blessed to be indebted to you all.

Aw, Mare, you're gonna make me cry, girl, because we ALL feel that way, like lifelines for each other. SO glad you are a part of Seekerville, my friend and cute rhyme, darlin' -- friends in deed, read, feed and Speed-bo!! :)
Hugs,
Julie
WHOO-HOO, SUE, soooo glad Tina introduced you to us because I got to meet you and love you and appreciate you! You are one of my favorite reader friends, girlfriend, so THANK YOU for all of your support!
ReplyDeleteGANISE!!! Thanks, darlin', for signing up for FAF and Seekerville -- I have you entered in both contests, my friend. Not sure I understand your question about unsubscribing so you can resubscribe, but all subscribing means is that you will receive an e-mail from Seekerville each day, letting you know who's blogging and what the subject is. Or did you just sign up to follow Seekerville? That just means you're a friend. Either way, hope you stay with both 'cause it sure can't hurt.
Hugs,
Julie
Thanks for adding me Julie, I was added to a goodreads group today which is really cool to.
ReplyDeleteJulie Just realised I was already a member of that fb group. (I forget what I am a member of there)
ReplyDeleteJulie, I agree with all you said!

Wow, a great Julie day at Seekerville...love it! Thanks for the info....I actually already subscribed to Vesselproject, Fiction Addiction, Novel Rocket, and Seekerville. And I just now subscribed to Word Salt and Inspired Reads. I am soooo anxious to win your book! The best to you, Julie!
ReplyDeleteCARA ... I have NO idea where I got these sites ... just lucky, I guess, but I use the heck out of them, I can tell you that!

Hugs,
Julie
BECKY ... WOW, you went crazy, girlfriend, THANK YOU!! I've entered you in both contests with the max amount of points, so GOOD LUCK!!
ReplyDeleteAnd, oh, Becky, you don't have to tell me about Relz Reviews ... I am a subscriber and absolutely LOVE Rel Mollett and her blog!! I classify Rel as one of those favorite blogs I was referring to when I put this note in today's blog post:
NOTE! I have a select few favorite regular blogs I subscribe to because I flat out love the bloggers and their content and they are dear friends, but that's a blog for another day. The following blogs listed are specifically set up to help authors promote their promotions and advise readers of freebies.
So, the blogs mentioned today are those that offer authors the chance to ADVERTISE and PROMOTE their own giveaways. For instance, when I am on Relz's blog for an interview in the future, I will post THAT info on most of the blogs/websites mentioned because that's what they do -- point readers to giveaways by authors or they alert readers to freebie e-books. Make sense?
Thanks for coming by AND mentioning Rel because I want to make sure readers (especially Rel) understand the specific type of promo blogs/sites I was promoting today.
Hugs,
Julie
GANISE!!! Hey, girl, I think this is a record -- the most we've ever talked in a week!! ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, you are going to LOVE the fact that you signed up because giveaways are always going on in Seekerville, along with lots of GREAT info for both readers and writers, so let me officially WELCOME you, my friend!! :)
Hugs,
Julie
JACKIE!!! Wouldn't be the same without you, darlin', so I am SO glad you made it by. I have entered you in both contests and believe me, I am anxious for you to win my book too, so GOOD LUCK!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Julie
Julie,
ReplyDeleteIt's after 11:00 and I'm finally getting my Seekerville fix. (Granted, if I stay up an hour, I can get another Seekerville fix. :-) )
Thank you for all of the references. I will review them all before I call it a night (though I am in the middle of one of Mary's books (Nook) and one of Camy's (Kindle) at the moment, so it was going to be a late night anyway).
LOL, Walt, we Seekers could keep you in reads forever, couldn't we???
ReplyDeleteI think you will like several of the links in my post A LOT ... at least I do, of course, AND you'll especially need them when you promote that debut novel that's just around the corner ... ;)
Hugs,
Julie
Was already following Seekerville. Have signed up for Fiction Addiction, Word Salt, Inspired Reads, all three FB groups, Vessel Project (I think), and TCBN.
ReplyDeleteNow if I could only find an agent....
Oh, Julie, wonderful links and delightful sentiments about friendship. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNow to settle in and read comments before the day is gone ...
Nancy C
Thanks for all of the information and the links.

WALT ... LOL about the agent!! Been there ... 24 times, as a matter of fact ... before I landed one. Hope it doesn't take you that many rejections to get there ... :) Okay, you're in both contests, Walt, so GOOD LUCK, my friend! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Julie
NANCY C ... Thank you, my friend. Friendship is pretty easy to share about in this biz because it's SO vital and SO abundant in the Christian market! Good luck in the contest, Nance!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Julie

Hey, VINCE, I attended May's Barkday party solo as my golden retriever Bunker died a couple years back, but I wished I had a puppy to bring. :) Maybe someday ... when my hubby is ready because he takes it hard when we lose a family dog.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Julie

Hello Julie! I'm here to leave my "just a comment" for a chance to win one of your books. I intend to read all you've written and internalize the wisdom, because some day I hope to try to be published. A far off dream. Meanwhile I enjoy all the efforts of you and your author friends. Blessings for your weekend.
ReplyDeleteHey, KATH, I like that -- "internalize the wisdom"!! :) Well, you can certainly do that here in Seekerville because this is a group of authors that have learned A LOT ... sometimes the hard way!!
ReplyDeleteAnd publication doesn't have to be a "far off dream," girl. I heard once that the average length of time to get published is six years (and that's about what it took for me!), but sometimes it's sooner and sometimes it's later.
Hopefully, you'll be one of the sooners!!
Hugs,
Julie
So honored to be mentioned here among so many great sites! Many blessings to you for your kindness.
