Seekerville is closed for Independence Day.
Please join us in celebrating the birth of our country.

.
.
And those who came were resolved to be Englishmen,

Gone to the world’s end, but English every one,
And they ate the white corn-kernels, parched in the sun.
.
And they knew it not, but they’d not be English again.
They would try, they would swear they were, they would drink the toast,
They would loyally petition and humbly pray
And over them was another sort of day
And in their veins was another, a different ghost.
.
For the country is where the life is, not elsewhere.
The country is where the heart and the blood are given.
They could swear to be English by every oath under heaven.
It did not alter the country by a hair.

.
Taken from a poem by Stephen Vincent Benét which is posted in Jamestown, Virginia, the first permanent English settlement (est. 1607) in what is now the United States of America.

  3. Good morning, Seekerville! I've always loved that Benet poem since I first saw it at Jamestown, Virginia, site of the first permanent English settlement. Little did those people know that one day there would be a United States consisting not only of the English, but native peoples who already lived in the vastness of the Atlantic to the Pacific as well as those from every nation, race, culture and religion around the world! A melting pot of people who, in spite of their country's many flaws, are proud to be called Americans.

  4. Happy Birthday America!
May your Stars & Stripes forever wave!
    Happy Birthday America!
The Land of the free and the home of the brave!
May our fighting men and women
    Be protected in the fray.
We thank you Lord for all they do
For their safety we do pray.
    Happy Birthday America!

May everyone have a wonderful and safe 4th!

    Smiles & Blessings,
    Cindy W.

The Andy Griffith Show had a mini-marathon today. Seemed appropriate in several ways.

  13. Uh, oh... Missy thanked Teeeena. Because we're all accustomed to her doing everything on the face of the planet...

But 'twas Glynna-kins that found that poem....

Missy's in trouble, Missy's in trouble!!!

  14. Ruthy -- Shall I graciously forgive Missy? Or hold hold on to this tightly in case I ever need to blackmail her for a favor? :)

  15. Thanks to all our Canadian Seeker Villagers for your Independence Day well-wishes! How did you all find Seekerville anyway? We're not exactly "locatable" on a world map!

  16. How'd we find you? That's easy. You heard of truffle sniffing dogs? Well up here in Canada we have excellent authors sniffing dogs and they led us here! :-)

  17. WOW, Kav! I learn something new every day! :) Maybe you can also enlighten me on why I've met so many Canadians who live in Arizona? Never met a Canadian when I lived in the Midwest. But they're all over the place here, eh?

  22. While the rest of the country is sweltering, it's been a cool day in the mountains of Arizona--low to mid-60's. Phoenix even had it's lowest temp in 100 years for the 4th of July -- low 70's. Should be back into the 100's tomorrow.

  23. Mary feeling so so. hung the washing and that did me in.

Ruthy and Glynna not sure trying to blackmail Missy when she said sorry really works. (of course you can hold the gaffe over her) of course I know you wouldn't do that to her.

Did you know it was on Independence day (cant remember how long ago) my cat Meggs took his independence from me. I always remember that day (ungrateful wretch of a cat!) I did love Meggs but he did tend to wander and had another home.
