That's it party peeps. Have a great week!!
Congratulations Winners!!!!
ReplyDeleteI got to say it first! I'm loving the Birthday Month!!
Congrats to alllllllll the winners!!!!!!! YAY!
ReplyDeleteLooks like another FABULOUS week!!!!
And now that I have my hard drive in an external case, I can send some pics. And find some of me reading books...
Congratulations, everyone!
ReplyDeleteLove this week's lineup.
Blogging topics
-writing effective dialect without overwriting it
-organizing research using One Notes
-Plotting, especially on how to plot the individual threads, such as faith, subplots etc.
To go along with what Christina said...
ReplyDeleteHow to use Scrivner [or other writing programs - like yWriter or whathaveyou]
CONGRATULATIONS to ALL the winners!! Wow, the Seekers KNOW how to throw a Birthday Party! Looks like another wonderful week coming up. ~ Hmmmmm....suggested blogging topics: Keeping focused while writing (aka Limiting distractions, LOL); Time management for Writers; How the Seekers do research. (I'm sure these topics have all been covered in the past, but these are a few that I can always use more advice for). ~ Heading to bed now, but am leaving a Peach Coffee Cake to be ready for Sunday breakfast. ~ Thanks, Tina---for another awesome WE!! Sleepy hugs, Patti Jo ~ zzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteOne Note and Scriver. You are killing me. How about a Smith and Corona instead?
ReplyDeleteScrivner. Scrivner. I was so upset I couldn't spell it.
ReplyDeleteScrivener. I think.
ReplyDeleteThere's SOMEONE I could recommend to maybe do a blog - but it's late and a long couple of days and forget who...
I'll get on it. I apparently need a blog on the topic too.
ReplyDeleteOOOOOOO! I won a book I didn't have already!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat are the chances!!!???? I just love that kind of thing.
Ususally I already have the book, but I give it away. Now I get one I haven't read. Can't wait to read Glynna Kay's. Woot!
Is the front of the RT that advertisement everybody kept talking about on the LI loop? I could never figure that out.
I would just cry if I got the plot whisperer prize. Cry for the person who ahd to talk to me for an hour.
"Um, it's about this girl... who's kinda... ya know... and then... this guy who's sorta... like.. that. and then they meet and it's all bad... in a good way... but... then something burns down..."
*sob*
I'm somewhat using OneNote and love the possibilities but I don't know how to fully utilize it.
ReplyDeleteI've downloaded Scrivener and YWriter several times. And deleted them several times (guess that's a given since I downloaded them a lot). I never could get the hang of how to use them. They confuse me and then I could never get them into my word to format them correctly. *shrugs* It'd be a good blog.
Virginia, we must plot alike.
ReplyDeleteCoffee pot's ready for morning.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all winners!
Thanks for the great links.
I'm sure I'll be around all week, but I'll for sure have to check in on Audra's surprise birthday party Saturday, since that is my birthday.
Helen
That's it Virginia. I'll report on the inside when I get my hands on one.
ReplyDeleteoooooh!! Helen has a birthday. Helen has a birthday.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to stop in and say congrats to the winners and thanks to all of my Seekerville friends for your thoughts and prayers last week as I had thyroid removal surgery. Still recuperating but thankful! Blessings! ~Stacey
ReplyDeletePrayers, Stacey.
ReplyDeleteI've missed most of this week, and reading the WE makes me regret it! I'm so glad I can go back and catch up.
ReplyDeleteAnd if anyone is hesitating about entering the Read Me! contest: Just do it! Last year's contest was the kick in the pants my writing career needed! :)
Topics for future posts...I've just finished a week of combining family visits with several research stops, and I'd love to hear how the Seekers make the most out of research trips - talking to local library and museum people, absorbing your setting, etc.
I could sure use some help with One Note, too!
And Birthday Cake for Helen on Saturday! Woo Hoo!
(We can use multiple exclamation points on the weekend, right?)
Thanks for letting us know you are doing okay, Stacey!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all the Birthday winners!
ReplyDeleteAs far as what would be great to see next yesr.. I love it when you have the LI team writing about what they are looking for in new authors etc. I would love to see the same from all the major Christian publishing lines.
Smiles & Blessings,
Cindy W.
countrybear52{at]yahoo[dot]com
Congrats to all the winners! I'm looking forward to my copy of Ruthy's book :)
ReplyDeleteNext week's line up looks fantastic. Can't wait.
Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.
Donna!!! Carol!!! Christina!!! Thank you for loving birthday month!
ReplyDeleteChristina, great topic ideas! I'm having my people scribble these down.
WAIT.
I HAVE NO PEOPLE!!!
:)
Okay, the SMART SEEKERS will have to do the instructional stuff on programs.....
And plotting.... (dagnabbit!!!) :)
Hahahahaha! You're scaring Tina too, but we have SMART FRIENDS!!! We can supply a Scrivner expert peep.
Because that's what friends are for!
Virginia, lol!!!
ReplyDeleteLet me just say that a 4 1/2 star first novel means you actually get it in the end...
even if it's not totally plotted to start.
And it's the end that counts, right????
Poor Martha. I can make a list of us who would drive her to drink.
Thanks for admitting you're one of 'em, LOL!
Helen is our birthday month girl!!!!
AND I GET TO MAKE A FLOURLESS CAKE?????? OH, THE POSSIBILITIES OF MESSING THAT UP ARE ENDLESS! :)
AND.....
A Celebrity Cake-Off with Connealy.
I am totally IN with that, DOWN with that, ALL OVER that!!!!
(She'll win, but it's friendly competition. If she wakes up with short hair ala: "The Parent Trap", oh well....)
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Stacey!
ReplyDeleteStinkin' glands.
Praying for you. Bless you!!!
I thank you and congrats to all the other winners.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see someone discuss the following:
Rewrites - how to keep your sanity while doing them!
Writing historicals versus contemporary - you can have both living in your brain at the same time.
I second Christina's individual thread plotting suggestion.
Did anyone notice Jan's new picture or am I just now noticing?
And I am in the Tina camp on Scrivner. Tina, do it just so the fear is taken away.
Peace, Julie
So much fun here this month!
ReplyDeleteAnd GREAT birthday gifts...CONGRATULATIONS to all of the winners.
Can't wait for next week's line up.
READ ME CONTEST!
ReplyDeleteJan, great reminder!!!!
Come on, chickens! :) There is still time to enter the contest... one page, your opening page.... and then the final page to show the book is complete.
Don't over-think this, Peeps. Think: Big. Brave. Bold. FREE!!!
The contest tab is on our home page, top left.... If you click on that, the rules are there.. Simple...simple... simple....
Think Nike: Just do it!
:)
Congrats to the winners!
ReplyDeleteAnd a SUPER week, it looks like, coming up!
And as for what I'd like you guys to cover... hmmm... I'd love more on story arc and such. That's a tough one for me.
Thanks for the WONDERFUL birthday month. You guys are fabulous!
Hi Tina and Missy, congrats on making the RT cover! That's great!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like another wonderful week coming up.
Your generosity is amazing. Thanks and happy birthday!
Jackie L.
Yes!!!!!!! I won books. Love that.
ReplyDeleteScrivner scares me. Wastes too much time to figure out how to use it. Plot boards and sticking notes are more my thing. That way I can plot without actually plotting. :)
Blog Post????
Writing tips.
Marketing ideas.
Editor interviews.
Happy Sunday, everyone! Time for Church :) :) :)
Great weekend edition, as always. :-) And how awesome about the RT Reviews cover. I didn't even know about that magazine. I'll have to hunt it down.
ReplyDeleteAs to topics for future Seeker blogs:
Prologues and epilogues -- when are they justified? How to write them effectively.
Is it possible for a panster to become a plotter? In ten (or less) easy steps. :-)
From ms. to bookstore -- the birth of a book. All the steps, and employees who handle the book along the way. Including jobs in the industry and their requirements.
Individual blogs highlighting specific genres in Christian Fiction: mystery, suspense, women's fiction, children's books, contemporary, historical, LI etc. What is required for each genre -- you could even highlight an author for each one too.
What keeps Seekers motivated?
How to write effective action scenes.
Oh yeah -- show not tell. I can never get enough of that...but I'm a slow learner. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh -- and how to reach a reader's emotions -- transforming a good story to an emotionally impactful one. (not sure if impactful is a word but you know what I mean)
There's still time to enter READ ME? I thought the deadline was at 12:01 est.
ReplyDeleteRuthy, how about this, because I think you and Julie would be great at it, portraying Irish men?
ReplyDeleteWow. I've won twice in the last two weeks. I'm on a roll. Of course, just visiting Seekerville is always a win.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most helpful blog posts I've seen is posts on getting rid of those words no one wants to see. I know you've done them but I enjoy them again.
I would also love to see a post on keeping different stories fresh while working on other manuscripts. In other words, you need to finish one manuscript, but you've got ideas bursting in your mind for other manuscripts. How do you satisfy and yet file away idea 2 so you can work on idea 1.
Congrats to everyone! !!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And since i haven't won anything, i bet they're keeping it for something for this week! Have an awesome Sunday!
ReplyDeleteYeah! I won a Ruthy book. :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the winners this. It was a fun week in Seekerville, and one more birthday done in my family. One more to go next week. :-)
Happy Birthday, Seekerville, and all the other October birthdays! :-)
Congratulations to Seekerville’s
ReplyDeleteTwo New Cover Girls
Tina & Missy!
“Do They or Don’t They?”*
(Plot this is. : ) )
*If you’re too young to get it, this is a Clairol thing.
New Ideas for Seeker Blogs?
I think Kav came up with all the good ideas already. Great thinking Kav.
I’ll just try a few idea headlines:
How to Pantser Your Way Into Plotting.
(Using GPS: God’s Plotting System).
How to get good results from bad habits.
(Changing roadblocks into stepping stones).
How to run your internal editor in the background so you can produce better copy the first time without even being aware the IE was helping you!
(You Don’t Have to Turn Me Off!)
Ten Cases When You Should “Tell” and Not “Show”
(Showing is slowing while telling is telling+)
+telling as in deeply revealing.
Vince
P.S. Wasn’t Madam S great yesterday? Tina you really are the best at what you do!
Love having posts on Sunday! Congrats to the winners!
ReplyDeleteBlog topics:
I'd love for some of the Seekers to detail how they revise and edit - from the big plot points down the small deets.
Also how you weave the threads together, romance, inner & outer journey and the spiritual thread.
Oh, and how to BOLD in a blog!!!
Looking forward to next week!
Cheers,
Sue
Woo hoo! Congrats to all the winners! I'm looking forward to the posts next week!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all the winners!
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting week we have to look forward to. I'm eager to hear what Barbara Vey has to say.
Possible topics:
•How to Accomplish as Much in a Week as Tina Radcliffe Does in a Day
•Adding Wagonloads of Fun to Your Stories Mary Connealy Style
•Fostering Reader Friendships with the Finesse of Julie Lessman
•How to Lighten Up, Laugh More, and Live Free by Taking Yourself Less Seriously - from the one and only Ruthy
OK, here are some real possibilities:
Dealing with the Doubt Dragon
Surviving Sophomore Book Blues
Effective Use of Your Facebook Author Page
Congrats people on the winning list.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of learning Scrivener, or Ywriter, as for topics. How do you handle speaking, if you do speaking. I think it would be interesting to do more critics, not just for those at Seekerville, although those are nice, but so Seekerville friends can join in and get more ideas on why or why not to add or take something out.
I know you can't always post snippets from a book, because some houses frown on it but writing a couple hundred words from prompt to dissect would be good.
Does that make sense at all. Yes ... No... Oh well
Happy Birthday Seekerville!! What I want you guys to lecture on more?? I don't know! Ya'll are awesome the way you are!
ReplyDeleteMaybe some panster tips??
Yeah Stacey, So glad you're doing better. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations winners. Have a fun week.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Jan
ReplyDeleteHelen, Happy Birthday. October is hubby's month too. A great month for a birthday.
Hi Bridgett, I'm interested in marketing ideas also. Let me know if you hear of anyone with good info.
Kav, You are toooooo funny. Will a plotter become a panster? Will a panster become a plotter? I'm still laughing.
ReplyDeleteKeli, I would love that Facebook blog. Maybe I'll finally get it and write one. They say if you want to learn something teach it. Hmmmmmm
ReplyDelete
ReplyDelete"How to Accomplish as Much in a Week as Tina Radcliffe Does in a Day"
Your Honor, in my defense I would like to say that my office is buried so deep in STUFF I only have one clean surface and that is where my keyboard rests. My office looks like an episode of Hoarders. There is a price to pay for not medicating my ADD (which I call ESP. A gift from God).
And I am willing to pay it darn it.
Ruth dear. The contest ended last night at midnight.
ReplyDeleteVince. I think I speak on behalf of my co-cover girl. A Cover Girl never tells.
ReplyDeleteNext week looks great!
ReplyDeleteBlogging topics I would like to see are:
Sequel-I know it's what links two scenes, I know one when I read it, but I can't seem to write one. :/
Beginnings-I read so many conflicting things A) have a hook and start at a point of action B) Start right before something happens C)When H/H meet...
And like others-Ywriter &/or Scriver.
Wow, what a great lineup ahead! Looks like a fun week.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the current winners! And good luck to all those entering this week. :)
Well, I use Scrivener. Or maybe I should say I use the cork board. So what I know about it, I could teach in a two paragraph blog. :)
ReplyDeleteOh - and close to ACFW conference -- a pitch blog -- maybe brave souls could submit their pitch and get critiqued.
ReplyDeleteStacy, I'm so glad to hear it! My college roommate had hers out, and once she got her synthroid adjusted just right, she felt much better. She's doing great today (several years later)!
ReplyDeleteOops! Sorry, Stacey. I spelled your name wrong.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering how Tina knew I couldn't handle a cake-off! LOL (Is it because you can't use a cake mix in a contest like that?)
ReplyDelete;)
Thanks, Jackie! It's very exciting to be able to take part in the RT cover!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Seekerville! It's fun celebrating with you all month. Congrats to all the winners, and thank you so much for my prizes. You ladies are amazing, and I've learned so much from you.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to stop back later to read more comments, but for now, I just wanted to say thank you and what a great WE, Tina.
Oh, and to give some writing blogpost ideas for next year:
1. What do you do after the first draft? What do you work to improve in revising your book?
2. Tips for livening up a scene that is necessary but gasping for breath
3. I was going to mention Deep POV, but you ladies took care of that for this week.
If I think of more, I'll send them in. :)
This week looks great! Can't wait!
Stacey, praying for you!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see how not to lsoe hope mid-stream when you're polishing a book you think is 'not too shabby'...
ReplyDeleteBut then you reach for a book to check pacing and pick up Ruthy's...
And after 4 pages you decide to go to bed.
Seriously. I opened Yuletide Hearts to page 111 (even though the printed pages are smaller and have fewer words than the comp page but you know what I mean)...
And read 'One big difference pierced his heart like a three-penny nail. Christ lived his life sacrificially; Matt had messed up repeatedly.'
Oh... Ugh... What a line. I should never read while I'm writing. It's depressing.
Love Kav and Keli's ideas. Great!! Oh, and Vince's too.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I'd like to see is deciphering non-acceptance letters.
OOH, GOOD IDEA CHRISTINA!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, non-acceptance... also rejection... also form letters... also strange phone calls that say 'they didn't buy it but it's not a rejection'. ????
ReplyDeleteWe could have a lot of fun with these!
Virginia, that is too funny. Did you actually get that phone call?
ReplyDeleteChristina
I would like to see how you name a book. Before you write it, or after? Does a publisher always keep the name or change it...etc.
ReplyDeleteOh, judges' comments too. I think my favorite one came from a judge who commented that she was unfamiliar with inspirationals, and then proceeded to comment that my story did not have the makings of an inspirational. I think she scored me a 2/5. Um, I realize just because the era is during ancient Israel doesn't mean it's an inspirational, but, the inspirational thread was definitely there, both hero and heroine sought God in the first chapter. *g*
ReplyDeleteGood question, Marissa. I've heard that it is rare an editor will keep the title.
ReplyDeleteHave any of the Seekers been able to keep theirs?
It depends on the line you are writing for. And the publisher.
ReplyDeleteMy friend at Superromance often keeps her titles. But that line is very close to Single Title.
Love Inspired not so often because they are a much more narrow niche genre and reader expectation is different. So you can actually tell it is a LI by the title.
Or think of Presents. You can tell a Presents by the title.
It's been one of those weekends - Like I rushed in crazy-person mode to enter the contest yesterday to discover that the deadline is today. Like I finally convinced dh to sit outside on the porch for after church breakfast and as soon as we settled in with our little plates balanced on our knees, a bolt of lightening zigzagged over the lake and sent us scrambling inside. Like as a consolation prize for the spoiled brekkie, dh suggested he take me for Starbucks. Sounds harmless enough. But when we arrived back home I looked down and discovered that the lid wasn't secure and I had a trail of ugly brown coffee drips down my white blouse. Very nice, ahem....
ReplyDeleteSO, thanks Seekerville, for the chance to win BOOKS, whooHOOOO! What fun! You turned my goofy weekend around.
What do I want to see here next year? I'm so happy for all the things you teach, just more of the same. I'm such a novice that I don't know what I'm missing! Makes it hard to ask for what I don't know, lol.
I really appreciate all of you here. The community is so great, and the Seekers who spend so much time holding hands, teaching and cheering. It's really been a lovely respite to come here every day. Thank you!
E-mailed you, Christina. :D
ReplyDeleteTHE DEADLINE WAS LAST NIGHT AT MIDNIGHT!!! IT'S ALL GOOD. RUTHY HAD A BRAIN FART!!!!
ReplyDeletePHEW...Thanks Tina.
ReplyDeleteBack to getting the coffee stains out of my blouse, ;)
And writing like a fool, haha...
Congrats to all the winners! Looks like another great week coming up on Seekers!!
ReplyDeleteJackie S.
Omigosh. Seekers will have to hire a flunkey soon, just to administer prizes.
ReplyDeleteKathy Mahar is an excellent recipient of Ruthy books because she happens to live in Ruthy's fictional world.
I am quite thrilled to be the winner of Glynna's book. Only 1 LEFT IN STOCK at Amazon (I had to pop over and look at the cover again!)
Thank you all for a wonderful week of posts. It's difficult to keep track of all the guests and prizes. I'm really looking forward to Friday's post. I have Jill Nelson's book on my kindle.
which reminds me to say, that I still treasure my kindle from last year's birthday extravaganza. It's always at my side...okay, it's true. I sleep with it.
Congratulations to all of the winners! I would love to see the Seekers review craft books. There are so many out there, I would love to hear what has been most helpful to each of you. Other than that, every day that I visit Seekerville I feel I "browse" away with more knowledge. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all the winners!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Seekerville Birthday Month! And next week looks fantastic, too!
There are always great topics being discussed here, but I'll add some just in case it helps :)
- choosing an agent, different agent spotlights/interviews,
- what editors like from their writers, estabishing good editor/writer relations
Have a great Sunday!
Congrats winners!
ReplyDeleteHope y'all are having a good week-end!
Whew! Who else have many things waiting for them to do?!
:-)
Hugs,
Ganise
Congrats to all the winners.
ReplyDeleteI have a writing question that came up today. Actually about 30 minutes to 1 hour ago.
How do you use your Author FB page? Do you need one if you already have a website and writing blog? Or...when is too much too much or not enough?
Busy brains and Carol Moncado want to know :-)
Oh, I love using OneNote!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteCan Pepper the Page pick a peck of pickled peppers? Or will Pepper the Person's pernsnickitiness perpetually perturb Perry the Platypus?
Or something like that ;).
OHMYGOODNESSGRACIOUS BE STILL MY HEART! My friend Melanie Dickerson sent me a msg that said: I just saw you won the prize at Seekerville for last week! The huge basket of goodies and the coffee maker thing! Did you see?
ReplyDelete• I have now!!! YAY!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Thank you all at Seekerville for this GENEROUS gift package!
Thanks, TINA, for posting this!!! Many blessings! Oh, and I am looking forward to visiting with all of you in December!
Carrie you luck lady, enjoy all that coffee!!! :-) Thank you Seekers for the chance to win all these great prizes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a writer so I can't really say what "writing" topics I'd like to see but I do enjoy the posts like the Love Inspired post by Liz AND Julie's love scene post. I mean really who doesn't want to read more about romance LOL?!
Blog topics: Writing & taxes

And I forgot to comment about topics. I love Kav's suggestion about pitching before next year's conference. And here's a thought, unless this has been done before. A critique of a two or three page synopsis? Maybe some tips on plot points and sagging middles? Oh, dear, sagging PLOT middles. I'm afraid with all the chocolate and goodies I've just won, my middle is pert near hopeless. :{
ReplyDeleteI want to know how to write a synopsis BEFORE writing the book. I've never done it that way.
