I'm somewhat using OneNote and love the possibilities but I don't know how to fully utilize it.
ReplyDeleteI've downloaded Scrivener and YWriter several times. And deleted them several times (guess that's a given since I downloaded them a lot). I never could get the hang of how to use them. They confuse me and then I could never get them into my word to format them correctly. *shrugs* It'd be a good blog.

Is it possible for a panster to become a plotter? In ten (or less) easy steps. :-)
From ms. to bookstore -- the birth of a book. All the steps, and employees who handle the book along the way. Including jobs in the industry and their requirements.
Individual blogs highlighting specific genres in Christian Fiction: mystery, suspense, women's fiction, children's books, contemporary, historical, LI etc. What is required for each genre -- you could even highlight an author for each one too.
What keeps Seekers motivated?
How to write effective action scenes.
Oh yeah -- show not tell. I can never get enough of that...but I'm a slow learner. :-)

I would also love to see a post on keeping different stories fresh while working on other manuscripts. In other words, you need to finish one manuscript, but you've got ideas bursting in your mind for other manuscripts. How do you satisfy and yet file away idea 2 so you can work on idea 1.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea of learning Scrivener, or Ywriter, as for topics. How do you handle speaking, if you do speaking. I think it would be interesting to do more critics, not just for those at Seekerville, although those are nice, but so Seekerville friends can join in and get more ideas on why or why not to add or take something out.
I know you can't always post snippets from a book, because some houses frown on it but writing a couple hundred words from prompt to dissect would be good.
Does that make sense at all. Yes ... No... Oh well

I would like to see how you name a book. Before you write it, or after? Does a publisher always keep the name or change it...etc.
ReplyDeleteOh, judges' comments too. I think my favorite one came from a judge who commented that she was unfamiliar with inspirationals, and then proceeded to comment that my story did not have the makings of an inspirational. I think she scored me a 2/5. Um, I realize just because the era is during ancient Israel doesn't mean it's an inspirational, but, the inspirational thread was definitely there, both hero and heroine sought God in the first chapter. *g*

It depends on the line you are writing for. And the publisher.
ReplyDeleteMy friend at Superromance often keeps her titles. But that line is very close to Single Title.
Love Inspired not so often because they are a much more narrow niche genre and reader expectation is different. So you can actually tell it is a LI by the title.
Or think of Presents. You can tell a Presents by the title.
It's been one of those weekends - Like I rushed in crazy-person mode to enter the contest yesterday to discover that the deadline is today. Like I finally convinced dh to sit outside on the porch for after church breakfast and as soon as we settled in with our little plates balanced on our knees, a bolt of lightening zigzagged over the lake and sent us scrambling inside. Like as a consolation prize for the spoiled brekkie, dh suggested he take me for Starbucks. Sounds harmless enough. But when we arrived back home I looked down and discovered that the lid wasn't secure and I had a trail of ugly brown coffee drips down my white blouse. Very nice, ahem....

And I forgot to comment about topics. I love Kav's suggestion about pitching before next year's conference. And here's a thought, unless this has been done before. A critique of a two or three page synopsis? Maybe some tips on plot points and sagging middles? Oh, dear, sagging PLOT middles. I'm afraid with all the chocolate and goodies I've just won, my middle is pert near hopeless. :{
