We have absolutely gorgeous weather (low 80°s w/low humidity) for enjoying our small town parade. We always cheer the loudest when the veterans come past.
I think it's because each town does its own Memorial Day parade and then their town parade to kick off their fireman's carnivals....
I want a 4th of July parade. I keep intending to spend a 4th in Philly and I should have done it when my boys were in college there, because their parade is amazing I hear.
How silly of me, but working mid-week and making money took precedence.
A special thank you to all our brave men and women in uniform!!!
We've got rain in GA! Lots of rain, with bad storms expected this afternoon. Everything was cancelled...the parade, the afternoon field events, the fireworks. Seems strange to be so quiet on the Fourth!
Debby, I'm sorry you're getting hit so hard down there. On this side of Atlanta, the rain has been very mild so far. I think it's going to hit us about dinner time--right when I plan to be grilling!
I find it ironic that Seekerville is "closed" today but people are leaving comments anyway. Shows what a great group this is! :)
I'm home alone while the rest of the family is at a concert by the lake (at the old Sodus Point lighthouse) -- listening to Gap Mangione music. Ruthy, at least, since she's from around the Rochester area, should know who he is. Of course, his brother, Chuck, is slightly more famous, LOL. It's just not my type of music. So I stayed behind to finish reading Mary Connealy's "Swept Away" (I want to read mooooooooooore about these Regulators!!!!!!!!!! First book I've read of hers and I'm a huge fan already!) and to melt in the humidity.
But the earlier gloom and doom of occasional rain gave way to blue sky, white clouds and sunshine. Hope no one got burned at the concert...
Now I have Lee Greenwood singing in my head, so...
"God bless the USA!"
Blessings, Melanie (who is returning to the dirty dishes--the things I do to earn my keep around here...)
P.S. Meant to add that for our family cookout today, my daughter Becca brought dessert: Peach Shortcake (using Georgia peaches, of course!). Yes, I've trained her well *grin*. ~ Hugs, PJ
Love the mug.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July.
God bless America!
May we all take a moment today to remember our young men and women who daily risk their lives in order for us to live with the freedom we do.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless America!
Blessings,

AMEN!!
ReplyDeleteCindy, well put! God bless all of you and yours... and I'm enjoying a quiet house, my window air conditioner and writing time.

Clari, it's 72 degrees here. I should go outside and enjoy it. I think the humidity is even bearable! lol

Melanie, we're relaxing at home, too. DH bought baby back ribs and they turned out really great (much to my surprise!)
ReplyDeleteI fried potatoes and onions as a side dish.
I might read a bit of Jocelyn Green's Widow of Gettysburg later today, but right now I'm sleepy after such a wonderful late lunch.
Nap. Walk. Then read. :)
Happy Independence Day! Happy Summer! Celebrate, America :)
ReplyDeleteDITTO what Cindy W. said !!
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day to all, and may God Bless America.
Hugs from RAINY Georgia,
