Whenever I think of mega birthday celebrations, I always think of Publishers Weekly Contributing Editor Barbara Vey’s cyber party held each March to mark the anniversary of her Beyond Her Book blog. Barbara’s a dear friend and a huge Seekerville supporter, and our own party wouldn’t be complete without a visit from this amazing woman whose name is a buzz word in the publishing industry.
Over the last six years, Barbara has become well known not only within the US, but her fame has spread internationally as well! She was invited to speak at Oxford and just returned from what had to be a trip of a lifetime. Barbara wanted to share the details of her travels with us today. Her success is proof that, with hard work and perseverance, dreams do come true. Please join me in welcoming Barbara back to Seekerville!
Happy 6th Birthday Seekerville! We both were born the
same year. Mine is in March, so I am a little older. I know there have been a
lot of changes here at Seekerville with the blog and the authors. Much success
with over 1 million views. Congratulations! And I’ve had my share of changes.
My Publishers Weekly blog, Beyond Her Book, has
humble beginnings. I was a reader they literally plucked from the sea when I
met the Deputy Editor on a cruise. Since I was such an avid reader, I was asked
to write a blog featuring women’s fiction. I wasn’t sure what women’s fiction
was, so I just wrote about books I read, authors I met and conferences I went
to. The blog was even called Beyond The Book when I started, but we soon found
out that was a copyrighted name.
Barbara makes every event a party! |
My first anniversary I celebrated with a virtual
party that was pretty much unheard of over 6 years ago. I had over 700 comments
that day and was in shock. Over the years, the parties have gotten bigger and
last year ended up with over 28,000 comments over 6 days.
Everyone loves Barbara, including NYT best-selling author Tess Gerritsen! |
Going to writers conferences was brand new for me
too. I went to my first RT and
RWA conferences that year and discovered how
different they were. I thought of RT like high school and RWA like college.
Since then I have attended Sleuthfest, Thrillerfest, Comic Con, Horrorfest,
Heather Graham’s New Orleans Conference, Crimebake, numerous local RWA
conferences and even the American Christian Fiction Writer’s Conference. And just this past week I’ve gone international.
Barbara's lodging in Oxford! |
I
was asked to speak at Oxford , in England, to the
writers there. I had to get my very first passport and was so excited when I
received my first stamp in the book. The writers were wonderful and so
interested in everything I had to say. They are way behind us in social media.
Twitter and Facebook scare most of them and only 2 even had Facebook pages.
Barbara always WOWS her audience! |
Then I headed to London to tour Mills and Boon. They actually
celebrated “Barbara Vey Day” when I was there with signs welcoming me, roses,
desserts and champagne. Now that’s the kind of welcome I really appreciate. I
met all the editors and saw the processes a book has to go through. A few
authors even showed up so I did some video interviews that you’ll be seeing
this week on my blog.
Mills and Boon welcomes Barbara with champagne and roses! |
Next up was a quick trip to Scotland . How
could I be so close to my Highlanders and not stop by to say hi? Author
Margarite Kaye took the ferry over to Edinburgh,
and we took the double decker bus tour, heard the bagpipes and saw many kilts.
One day just wasn’t long enough there.
Don't we all love guys in uniforms! Here Barbara poses with the bobbies! |
I even managed to catch up with a Facebook friend,
reader Wendy. She took a 2 ½ hour bus ride to see me in Oxford and then came
back a few days later with her sister, Marcia, who wanted to meet me. Readers
are incredible the world over and it’s great to talk books with all of them.
Barbara with reader friends Marcia and Wendy. |
Next year I’ll be speaking at the International
Women’s Fiction Festival in Matera ,
Italy . I have
to pinch myself. Otherwise, I’m not sure what the future holds, but if it
involves books, I’m fine with it.
Congrats, Barbara! We're so proud of you and honored that you could join us in Seekerville today. I'm looking forward to your next Reader Appreciation Luncheon and want to ensure all the Villagers know about that special event.
Additional drawings today include a book giveaway from Barbara and a journal and 2014 planner/calendar from Debby, along with her latest release, THE SOLDIER’S SISTER.
Every comment enters you in this week's overall prize of a $50 Amazon Gift Card and also in the BIG BIRTHDAY BASH GRAND PRIZE for the month--an iPAD MINI!!!! Good luck, everyone!
The breakfast bar is open. Today’s menu includes egg and sausage casserole, baked ham, fresh fruit, an assortment of breads and muffins, and grits! Enjoy! The coffee’s hot; so is the tea. Colas are available as well.
Grab some food, fill your cup and let's spend the day with Barbara Vey!
As Contributing Editor for Publishers Weekly, Barbara Vey brings readers and writers together with her popular Beyond Her Book blog. Recipient of the 2012 RWA Vivian Stephens Industry Award and 2013 RT Melinda Helfer Fairy Godmother Award. From her entertaining “Drive By Videos” to reader feedback on books with WW Ladies Book Club, Tuesday Releases and Author Recommends...BHB continues to grow into a must read daily adventure. An avid reader, Barbara consumed a book a day before taking on the glamorous life of a roving reporter. Traveling all over the world to conferences from Romance to Thrillers, Mysteries to Horror, Historicals to Comic Con, her love of Romance and the Happily Ever After keeps her grounded while she offers readers a place to step away from life’s daily trials to take a positive journey through the world of books.
We need these luncheons in more places!
ReplyDeleteThe bookstore I just did a signing at held a Librarian day. She invited all the church librarians in the area to the bookstore which has a big basement room, catered them lunch and then she and her associates basically did verbal book reports on as many of the new books for the year that they all worked to read. They gave them a list so they could jot down besides the titles if they were interested in purchasing it. And then she gave them 25% off if they bought books within the week. And well, two authors just happened to be upstairs waiting to sign books.
Anyway, I think every book store should do that, it was so cool. I wanted to be a church librarian! :)
I would LOVEto go to the luncheon, but even if I won the ticket, it will not work for me this time, so please leave my name out...but if there's a book to be won, I want a chance. I'm headed over to Beyond Her Book blog...how can I have missed it? Thanks for a great post
ReplyDeleteWow Melissa! I'm a church librarian and would lOve attending such an event.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I think it is amazing you have such a successful career doing something you truly love. I so wish your luncheon was being held in Oklahoma.
Glad to learn about another wonderful person here on Seekerville! Please enter me in the drawing for the books/planner!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, wow. What a super idea. I'll share that with folks nearby.
Please enter me into whatever. Who knows what will happen next year? :D
may at maythek9spy dot com
And thanks for the virtual yummies, Debby!
Barbara, one more thing. It might blow their mind to say that even my DOG has a Facebook page! May the K9 Spy.
ReplyDeleteThere is a HUGE following for dog lovers (and cats, and rabbits, and horses... you name it). We hang out with the dog community. Some have tens of thousands of followers. It's really amazing. :D
Now, that's a gal who knows how to celebrate! Seekerville is always such a fun visit. Happy Birthday again!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Barbara. Always a pleasure to have you with us.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Seekerville's birthday bash!
It sounds like you had a great trip to Oxford. And Italy next, how exciting for you!
Please enter my name in the drawings except for the luncheon. I'd love to be able to come, but it's not possible. Thanks for the opportunity.
Have a great day!
Wow! To be invited to speak at Oxford must have been so exciting. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip...and Italy next year!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would love to go to Barbara's luncheon I think it is out of the question for me next year, but I would love to be entered for the book giveaway from Barbara and especially the journal and 2014 planner & Debby's book.
Have a happy, happy day!
Smiles & Blessings,
Cindy W.

Melissa, the luncheon is amazing and if I were younger, I'd plan them in more cities. They are a lot of work, but totally worth it!
ReplyDeleteMarianne, I'm sorry you can't make the luncheon. It's an amazing event with over 50 incredible authors. I'll be posting my PW blog in the next hour, so stop by again and read about my Edinburgh adventure!
ReplyDeleteTerri, it would be terrific if you could make the luncheon. We even have famous OK author Sharon Sala coming.
ReplyDeleteSharon is a terrific lady!
DeleteHeidi, thanks for stopping by. This is one of my favorite blogging stops. Good luck in the drawing.
ReplyDeleteMay, it's always great when readers and writers get together. Seekerville is a prime example.
ReplyDeleteJan, I'm always up for a celebration and honored to be invited back to Seekerville.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra, nice to be back with some of my favorite authors.
ReplyDeleteJackie, sorry you can't make the luncheon. Debby brings wonderful things for the readers at her table and the woman who won her door prize last year is still talking about it!
ReplyDeleteCindy W., thanks for stopping by and good luck in the drawing today!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh, now I get it! Thanks for sharing where it all started. Truly you excel at what you do and I have to assume it's because you absolutely love it -it shows!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on going international with your conferences!
I'd love to go to your luncheon sometime when I can also get out and visit Lyndee Hendersen. I know she loved it.
Thanks Debra! I hope you can make it to a luncheon some day too.
ReplyDeleteMorning Seekerville!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, we're so honored you could be with us today! Looks like you got up early. Are you still working through your jet lag? Such a wonderful trip! Loved seeing the pics and hearing the details.
Grabbing a cup of coffee...
Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing about the librarian luncheon in your area of the world. What a great idea!!! Your bookseller is amazing. A real jewel. You're so lucky to know her and be able to sign in her store where, no doubt, readers and librarians get special treatment. A future RWA bookseller of the year, perhaps?
Marianne,
ReplyDeleteBarbara's Beyond Her Book blog is a great place for readers and writers. Lots of book reviews and behind the scenes looks at the publishing industry and national writing events. If it's happening in the book world, Barbara is there!
Even Oxford! How fantastic! Good for you, Barbara!
Terri, wouldn't it be wonderful if Barbara could host a number of luncheons in various parts of the country.
ReplyDeleteKnowing Barbara, she just might! Stay tuned...
Hi Heidi,
ReplyDeleteYou're in the drawing. Did you get breakfast?
The coffee's so good this morning.
KC,
ReplyDeleteLet us know if the booksellers in your area host a similar event!
How's your recoup time going, KC? I know you've been hard at working getting book three ready for publication. Hope you and May have been able to relax a bit and enjoy the beautiful fall weather!
Did I mention doggie bones for May are behind the breakfast bar?
Hi Jan, thanks for the Seekerville birthday greetings. Be sure to celebrate Barbara's Beyond Her Book Birthday Bash in March. She'll be at year seven!
ReplyDeleteWaving to Sandra!
ReplyDeleteI love the breakfast bar! That would fortify me for work. Thank you! lol. Thanks Barbara for a wonderful post and sharing the pictures! What an awesome journey. Would love to hear more and see more pictures! Don't enter me in the luncheon. Too far for me. But it sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks! I might have to add gravy to the buffet: how about sausage gravy and chocolate gravy?
ReplyDeletetscmshupe [at] pemtel [dot] net
Hi Jackie,
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Italy sound fantastic. Too bad Barbara can't arrange a tour group to travel with her...
Hmmmm, perhaps something to consider for the future, Barbara! :)
Cindy, you're in the drawings!
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, I have more pictures on my blog and will put them up all week including videos. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteHi Deb,
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how God placed Barbara on that cruise and that she sat next to one of the head folks in PW!
I would love to have overheard their conversation...Barbara saying she loved books...the Deputy Editor listening and shaking her head.
Knowing Barbara, she probably told the PW editor she needed more romance in her publication!
HI Sally,
ReplyDeleteBarbara has lots of pictures and more highlights from her trip on her Beyond Her Book blog. Visit her there too, but be sure to come back to Seekerville for more birthday fun!
Thanks for the gravy!
Went to visit, but now I'm back. Wonderful pictures and they guy playing the bagpipes--wonderful! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSally,
ReplyDeleteI followed you to Barbara's blog.
Loved the photos and info. I felt like I was there.
Edinburgh Castle was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!
Welcome back to Seekerville, Barbara! I can't think of ANYWHERE I'd rather go than the UK! And don't you just love Oxford? I hope to go back for another visit someday. Sounds as if you were treated like royalty -- and I hope you got a chance to check out a few bookstores while you were over there. That was a REAL treat for me. :)
ReplyDeleteTotally jealous of the travelling Barbara. Maybe one day . . . :-)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Barbara and Debby!
ReplyDeleteBarbara,
Your birthday celebration on Beyond Her Book is so much fun!
You do such great things for authors and we THANK you.
Glynna, I really was treated like royalty and I kind of liked it. I was disappointed in the bookstores. They didn't have a romance section. The books are mixed with the other books.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, it was fun reading about your London/Scotland adventures, I too am waiting to use my passport there.
ReplyDeleteNaomi, I just got my passport at age 62. I'm just getting started!
ReplyDeleteAloha! I remember watching the crowd of authors leave RT/Chicago for Barbara's inaugral luncheon in Milwaukee in 2012. I missed last year's luncheon - we visited hubby in Korea. Since then, we have moved to Maryland, making it very easy to attend. I'm already signed up and waiting for Southwest to open it flight reservations for April! Mahalo for sharing Barbara's recent adventures in England!
ReplyDeleteRose, my pleasure, believe me. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Dina, you'll love it in London/Scotland!
ReplyDeleteKim, excited you'll be at the luncheon next year!
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I love your success story and the warmth and humor and honesty you bring to the publishing marketplace!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Melissa, these luncheons should be spread out regionally.... how fun would that be?
Hey, ROCHESTER AND BUFFALO/WESTERN NEW YORK WRITERS love Barbara Vey!!! I think upstate/WNY/Northern PA should be the next venue!
We want Barbara! We want Barbara! We want Barbara!!!!
I'm all over having food for today's shindig and we're making homemade rainy day cookies, so I'm contributing to the virtual table. Barbara, thank you so much for being here, for hanging with us for our birthday! Love it!!!
Oh my goodness, Barbara, what a wonderful opportunity!!! And your story is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteDid you feel like the queen with all those signs up in your honor? Did you perfect the 'wave' to your adoring fans? :-)
So glad to see you at Seekerville today.
Wow, Barbara, what an adventure you've been on! :) I've always wanted to visit England, but the closest I've gotten was the Manchester airport for an unexpected layover. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you began blogging about Women's Fiction. That is what I've been writing. :) And there are international women's fiction conferences? WOW! Italy should be amazing. :) I hope you'll get to do some touring of the country.
It's fun to hear your excitement over books and the doors that have opened up to you because of your blog's humble beginnings. I'm so glad you were here to share today!
Ruth, we could totally rock a luncheon in that area! :)
ReplyDeletePepper, I did feel like a Queen. The people at Mills & Boon were just fantastic. Still working on the wave though.
ReplyDeleteJeanne T., I'm looking forward to the chance to see a little of Italy. Just need to find some authors there to show me around.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, what an amazing trip!! I'm so envious! Thanks for sharing the fun photos! Debby, thanks for having Barbara back here with us.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, that sounds like a fantastic event! What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to attend the reader appreciation luncheon, but it's definitely on my bucket list!
ReplyDeleteI heard Barbara speak in Seattle a few years ago and her story is truly inspiring!!
Missy, so nice to see you here today. I love visiting with Seekerville.
ReplyDeleteSherri, I loved Emerald City and that was my very first keynote speech. I'll never forget it.
ReplyDeletewow. it's so cool to see how God works to put just the right people in just the right places to maximize blessings for everyone. congrats on your first passport and stamps (yes, it's so exciting to see those - i was thirteen when i got my first stamp and still remember the thrill). i need to visit Beyond Her Book. i was aware of the blog before today -- don't know why i haven't gotten there. apologies.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing your trip and your story. Seekerville is such a blessing, yes?
Barbara, you knocked it out of the park at Emerald City. That speech still resonates with me!!
ReplyDeleteHey Barbara, continue to have fun on your trip so I can live vicariously through you :D
ReplyDeleteCheck your Twitter feed, Seekervillians. Seekerville just Tweeted on of Barabara's videos. Terrific stuff.
ReplyDeleteWELCOME BARBARA!!
Toasting you with a mocha latte (your fav) in your honor.
Hi Glynna, sounds like you had a wonderful UK experience, just as Barbara did.
ReplyDeleteThe family and I traveled there when we lived in Germany. We crossed on the ferry at Dover. Hubby drove on the left while I navigated. We survived!
Hi Naomi,
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how Barbara has fans all over the world. Of course, no wonder. She's a warm and caring person who loves everyone she meets.
HI Rose!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about enjoying Barbara's birthday celebration--a 24/7 event for an entire week. Folks are always chatting and having fun online. All a reflection of her enthusiasm and hospitality!
Dina,
ReplyDeleteAre you taking a trip? We'd loved to hear your plans.
Happy travels!
Kim, I'll see you at Barbara's Reader Appreciation Luncheon. YAY!!!
ReplyDeleteWe love military heroes in Seekerville! Be sure to thank your hubby for his service to our country! Glad you could visit him in Korea. Such an adventure, I'm sure.
BTW, I was born at Fort Meade. Does hubby work in Baltimore?
Hi Ruthy,
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing your cheers for Barbara all the way south in Georgia! Yes, a PA/NY luncheon would be fun. Count me in. :)
Thanks for the cookies.
Almost time for lunch...
Hi Pepper,
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to hear how graciously Mills and Boon welcomed Barbara to the UK! Such a special day for a special lady.
Jeanne,
ReplyDeleteIsn't Barbara amazing! She's proof that doors do open when we work hard and never give up.
No one in Seekerville should ever give up! Keep moving forward. Keep learning. Keep writing. Dreams do come true.
HI Missy!
ReplyDeleteWeren't your kids in Ireland this past summer? Next time, mom needs to go too.
Barbara, I want to be you for a week. (May that the week you went to Oxford.)
ReplyDeleteI would love to do more traveling, but everything is so expensive I hardly ever make it out of Texas.
Enter me into everything except the luncheon. I'm saving money for the ACFW conference next year.
So glad to see you here today.
Hi Sherri,
ReplyDeleteThink about attending Barbara's Reader Appreciation Luncheon. You'd enjoy every minute!
Hi DebH...
ReplyDeleteThanks for your praise of Seekerville. Our Villagers make the blog...and wonderful guests like Barbara! So glad she could be with us today. So glad you stopped by to say hello.
We all enjoy Barbara's travels, don't we, Aly! :)
ReplyDeleteTina, you can do everything...even video Twitter feeds. You're amazing, just like Barbara!
ReplyDeleteA mocha latte sounds perfect on this damp, fall day!
Connie,
ReplyDeleteACFW next year is HUGE!!! Keep saving those pennies. They add up!!!
Plus, Texas is so big! Driving across the state is like visiting three countries in Europe!
Welcome back to Seekerville, Barbara! Loved reading about your trip to Oxford. Wowzers! What FUN!
ReplyDeleteAnd Italy next year???
That just makes me smile. :)
Wowzers is right, Pam!!! UK today. Italy tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAnd it all started because Barbara loves books and people who read books!
CONNIE,
ReplyDeleteI am with you on saving for conferences. Only way I can do it.
But I have a feeling ACFW is worth it.
Kathy Bailey
BARBARA,
ReplyDeleteLOVE Oxford. One of my favorite books of all time is Dorothy L. Sayers' "Gaudy Night," where Lord Peter Wimsey helps Harriet solve a mystery at Oxford and she finally agrees to marry him. SO atmospheric.
Would love to meet you some time, either virtually or in person.
Kathy Bailey
Hello Barbara! The trip to England sounded wonderful! Congrats! I wish I could go to the luncheon but unfortunately I can't so don't enter me in that! I would love the book though! I've already read Debby's book so I don't need that one! I'm enjoying this birthday party and the breakfast sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteWOW, BARBARA ... I'm ready to go back to bed after reading ALL the things you do and how busy you've been!! The trip to England and Scotland sounds TO DIE FOR, and a memory I am sure you will never forget!!
ReplyDeleteI am SO grateful to Debby for introducing you to us -- you have been such a blessing to the Seekers and SO many who love great fiction!!
Hugs,
Julie
Hi Kathy!!!
ReplyDeleteACFW is a great conference and ST Louis is a lovely city. Hope lots of Villagers can attend next year.
I'm glad you can chat with Barbara here in Seekerville...to meet in person would be wonderful too!
Hi Valri, it's always fun to see you in Seekerville. I think we first met at Barbara's Birthday Bash some years ago.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading my books.
HUGS!
Julie, you're so right. Knowing Barbara is a blessing! Plus, she's a whirlwind of energy. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteHow do you do it, Barbara? :)
I met Barbara at her very first RWA conference. My fellow Playfriends from the Writing Playground couldn't believe it when she wanted to interview us. We were thrilled and also thrilled to get to know this fabulous lady. No one deserves success any more than she does.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'd love to go, don't enter me in the drawing as I can't make it to her luncheon. Maybe another year.
I have a hair appointment. I know, poor timing. I'll be away from my computer for a couple hours but wanted to invite everyone to the make-your-own-deli-sandwich lunch buffet. Chips and dips. Lots of colas. The coffee's still hot. Iced tea. Hot tea.
ReplyDeleteBirthday cake and ice cream for dessert!
Red Velvet, German Chocolate, Applesauce, Carrot, Angel food, pound cake, rum raisin, spice...and more!
Happy Birthday, Seekerville!!!
I say we send Barbara on a tour of the United States now that she is back. Southern Hospitality and Midwestern Hominess, Northern wonders and Western mountain trails. We all have something to offer you, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you do!
Please put me in for everything.
Peace, Julie
MELISSA--What a great idea that store had for your book signing. :) Keeping that in mind. Such a great idea on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteDEBBY~I meant to say earlier I would love to be entered in the drawings. I can't attend Barbara's luncheon, too far away, but I'd love to be entered into the other drawings.
ReplyDeleteHelping myself to a little coffee before I'm off and running to help at the kids' school. :)
Hello Barbara! It must be fun to travel. Although I get frazzled just taking a road trip to the next state.
ReplyDeleteAs a reality show junky I enjoy reading your tweets on twitter. :)
Hi, Barbara! You're looking great! Glad you had an awesome trip! :-) I'll see you in Birmingham Nov. 2nd for the Reader's Luncheon!
ReplyDeleteDeb H., hope you enjoy reading Beyond Her Book as much as I enjoy writing it.
ReplyDeleteAly, thanks. I wish I could have taken everyone with me.
ReplyDeleteTina, thanks for the toast. I just was at Twitter and retweeted everyone. LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, I love having this second chance after retiring from my first job of 25 years. It's my love of books that makes it all possible.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Barbara, and congratulations on all your hard work and success promoting books! And you're now a world traveler too--sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteDebby, thank you so much for having Barbara visit us today. In honor of her visit, I just "had" to bake yet another Georgia Peach Cobbler, with extra cinnamon and sugar on the crust--Enjoy!
Hugs, Patti Jo :)
Hi Pam, I loved my UK adventures, but believe me, I also have them in the US. My blog readers love coming along just to see what happens next.
ReplyDeleteOh, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteYour job sounds like no job at all - jet setting around the world, meeting famous authors, parties....
A dream come true!
I'd love to be in for the drawing for the Readers Appreciation Luncheon. Debby has talked about it here on Seekerville, and it sounds like so much fun :)
Kaybee, I know what you mean. I started listening to a book last night and they mentioned that the character went to Christ Church and I was just there! It's where parts of Harry Potter was filmed. It's fun to see places we read about. And we are meeting now...virtually. Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteHi Valri, sorry you can't make the luncheon. It's an amazing event. Good luck in the drawing.
ReplyDeleteBarbara,
ReplyDeleteThank you for all you do to bring readers and writers together.
I will make your blog required reading from now on. Please enter me in the drawings.
Julie, thanks for the kind words. I always feel so welcome at Seekerville.
ReplyDeleteHi Marilyn, it's wonderful to see you here. I'm sorry you can't make it to the luncheon. I hope you can some day. I still remember the day we met. Good times!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, I'd love to tour the US. Next month I'll be in Birmingham for the Southern Magic Luncheon and a couple weeks later in St. Louis to do a workshop for the RWA authors there. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity.
ReplyDeleteJamie, right now I'm so addicted to the Amazing Race. It's so exciting to see them travel all over the world. I like to think I'm in training for it. :)
ReplyDeleteMelanie, I'm looking forward to Birmingham. Be sure to stop me and say hi.
ReplyDeleteHi CatMom, it's an honor to be asked back and I do love a good party.
ReplyDeleteJan, my job is a dream come true. Good luck on winning the ticket to the luncheon. It's really a fabulous time.
ReplyDeleteMary, thank you so much. I really appreciate all my readers. Hope you enjoy the blog.

ReplyDeleteThe place you stayed at in Oxford England is gorgeous! I wish we could see pictures of the inside!
ReplyDeleteWow Salyna, that must have taken you forever. LOL, thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Seekerville,
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara,
We met briefly at RWA this summer. I loved your comparison of RT and RWA conferences. I've yet to be to RT to see how it resembles high school, but it made me laugh.
Your luncheon is a wonderful way to bring writers and authors together, I'm still in school around that time, but that outreach is so important.
Thanks for bringing cake Debby for that afternoon boost! Spice for me please...
Thanks Debby,
ReplyDeleteMay is thrilled you remembered her! YUMMO!
I hope to be able to go to THE event. Unsure if I will but, maybe if I win the ticket, that would be a *hint* I should really do it! Love that people are still talking about your gift basket. That's just like you!!!
We're hanging in there. Hoped to have books in paw for the school visit and show this weekend, but looks like they'll arrive one day next week.
So. Excited. But. Tired... A fun tired, but still! ;)
Barbara, know you'll enjoy your next trip(s) too. Thanks ever so much again, for sharing your photos. Keep up the terrific work!
Piper, you'll have to let me know what you think of RT after you attend. :)
ReplyDeleteKC, glad you enjoyed the pics. I really have a ton of them and love to relook at them.
ReplyDeleteHello, Barbara! You so impressed me when you took the time to read my profile and make a personalized comment to me--one of the 28,000 commenters--during your fabulous BHB birthday bash. I'll have a cup of English tea in honor of your success and your fabulous trip. Congratulations and thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post -- I really liked reading about your travels & especially how you were plucked from being a reader to become a blog writer -- and that you didn't know what women's fiction was. How great to love reading so much that you don't think about genres. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to Seekerville, Barbara! I've really enjoyed getting to know you the last few years as we've hooked up at conferences. I'm amazed how you were plucked from the sea to begin the blog Beyond Her Book and to see how that has blossomed and grown into an amazing success story! Talk about a dream job!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on speaking at Cambridge! What a terrific opportunity to connect with authors and to see that part of the world. Love that HQ UK gave you such a warm welcome!
Wish I could attend your Reader Appreciation luncheon. Know I'd love every moment of it!
Thanks for your generous shout outs for Seekerville. You're the best!
Janet
I'm back!
ReplyDeleteHope everyone's enjoying the deli sandwiches and birthday cake!!!
Marilyn, your wrote the following about Barbara: "No one deserves success more than she does."
I agree!
Your Writing Playground is a great blog! That was the first blog I ever posted on. You invited me to guest, and I wrote about the Christian market. Thank you!
Barbara, thank you so much for being on Seekerville. It's always such a treat to have you on.
ReplyDeleteI've had a morning I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. (Not that I really HAVE enemies, you know, but still.....bad morning)
So I'm slow and on today of all days.
I wish I was coming to this luncheon.
Tina, didn't we plan to do this? Try and go to this? What happened?
Yay, Julie! You're in the drawings...all of them!
ReplyDeleteA US tour for Barbara so we could all spend time with her...how fun!
BTW, she'll be at the Southern Magic Readers Luncheon in Birmingham, AL, on NOV 2.
Jeanne, have fun at school! You're in the book drawings. :)
ReplyDeleteRT as in Kansas City last year. I would have LOVED To go but it was just right at a time that made it impossible.
ReplyDeleteBut I will make it one of these days.
It's in....maybe New Orleans this year?
Much too far away. At least to go on a whim. But Milwaukee....Debby do you have a LOT of tickets left for your table? Are you selling them? How does that work?
Sherida, thanks for coming to my Anniversary Bash. Enjoy your tea!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I loved the word plucked and it really applies. I'm glad they saw something in me.
ReplyDeleteHi Jamie,
ReplyDeleteGlad you follow Barbara on Twitter! :)
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI'll see you in Birmingham too! Can't wait.
Patti Jo, thanks for spreading the Georgia hospitality with your Peach Cobbler.
ReplyDeleteYummy!
Jan, you're in the drawing! Barbara's Reader Appreciation Luncheon is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMary Y!
ReplyDeleteI loved your comment about Barbara's blog being required reading! So cute! So true! :)
You're in the drawings!
Hi Piper...
ReplyDeleteI cut a large slice of spice cake for you. I'm sure you're hungry after teaching all day.
Enjoy!
Hi Janet, I always love running into you at conferences. I'm hoping I get asked back to ACFW next year.
ReplyDeleteMary, glad you could stop by even with your crazy morning.
ReplyDeleteKC, too bad about the timing of the shipment of your books! I know your school visit will be wonderful, even without your new story to share.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun travels - welcome back!
ReplyDeleteSherida,
ReplyDeleteBarbara is always a gracious hostess and makes everyone feel at home...even when 28,000 folks leave a comment. :)
A cup of tea sounds perfect this afternoon. Birthday cake or scones?
Barbara, it's so nice to have you in Seekerville today! Wow, I have always wanted to visit England--loved seeing your pix!
ReplyDeleteAnd after hearing Debby talk about how fabulous your reader luncheons are, I hope I can attend one of those someday! Thanks so much for all the many ways you support romance fiction, especially inspirational. The Seekers are honored to call you our friend!
Waving to Susan! So glad you could visit with Barbara today.
ReplyDeleteTea?
Hi Janet!
ReplyDeleteThe ACFW Conference in Dallas was so special, especially because Barbara was there. Delightful memories!
Myra, I would love to see you at one of the luncheon.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, I hope the same! St. Louis here we come!
ReplyDeleteThe RWA conference is in San Antonio. I've never been there. Are you planning to go?
Janet
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteSorry about your frustrating morning. Hope things are better now!
My table sold out a couple weeks ago, but open seating tickets are still available. Of course, I'm thrilled and so grateful to those who will be joining me that day.
Barbara's expecting 500 folks, and the tickets are going fast! I can't wait to see who wins today's drawing!!!
Friday night there's a Q&A with authors that's open to the public. A social time follows. Last year, it was a relaxing and fun evening when everyone mixed and mingled. The luncheon is the next day. This year, Barbara's asked some of the authors to read excerpts from their books to those waiting for the doors to open. Every year it gets bigger and better!
Debby, any time Seekers gather is a great memory for me. Add special people like Barbara and Villagers and we've got a party!
ReplyDeleteJanet
Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Seekerville today. Care for some birthday cake?
Hi Myra,
ReplyDeleteYou're right. We are honored to call Barbara friend, and she does do so much for the inspirational genre!
Thanks, Barbara!
Hi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on Oxford and all the exciting things going on for you! Last year was my first year at the luncheon and thanks to my dh, I have a ticket for this year, too!
**Debra Marvin** Come visit that weekend!
Lyndee! What a sweet hubby! So glad you'll be there this year. Last year was so special!
ReplyDelete(Talk Deb M into visiting!)
Janet, I'll be at RWA and St. Louis is where my son lives, so I'd love to attend.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, how fun to go to Oxford and on to Scotland. My sister lives in England right now and I so want to go visit. Funny we lived in Germany and I did get to go to England but after four years there, we never made it to Scotland or Ireland.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your birthday too, and thanks so much for coming to share at Seekerville. The luncheon sounds awesome, but I probably wouldn't able to attend so don't enter me.
Blessings
Lyndee, I'm thrilled you'll be coming. Be sure to stop me and say hi.
ReplyDeleteTina, I hope you get to visit your sister and Scotland is about 4 1/2 hours away by train.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Seekerville! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah,
ReplyDeleteI hope to go, Barbara.
my sister let me know that she's been and had a fun time looking at where our family came from. We're Scots Irish Indian.
I remember traveling in England, we watched them making a movie, rode the train and double decker buses and tried to get the guards to smile.
Hi Tina,
ReplyDeleteMy fam and I visited England when we lived in Germany, but like you, we didn't tour Scotland or Ireland. Our loss! Would love to return. Seeing Barbara's pictures made me want to grab a flight and head to the UK! If only. :)
Hi Heidi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and for the birthday greetings. Hope all is well. Looking forward to seeing you in April! Wish we didn't have to wait that long. Come south...
Hi Heidi, glad you had time to stop by.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you here, Barbara, right after your trip and to hear more about the work you're doing. Such a fantastic opportunity to be invited to speak to writers in the UK. I especially love Oxford as my husband's family lives there and I go there every other year. Will take a look at the pics at your blog. Among my friends and family there only a few have a FB account so I know what you're saying is true. They just seem to be timid about social media. Please don't include me in the drawing for the luncheon and I have Debby's novel yet to read. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Seekerville! The food is amazing! Barbara, your pictures and stories from England are wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Debby, it was so nice to be able to sit with you at the first Reader Appreciation Luncheon! I look forward to the Luncheon (and Friday night get together) every year.
ReplyDeletePat, how lucky you are to go back to Oxford every year. I hope to make it back again some day.
ReplyDeleteJenny St.G., thanks for stopping by and for all your help at the luncheons. Looking forward to next year.
ReplyDeleteBarbara,
ReplyDeleteI sure will! I won't be able to do RT next year, but maybe the year after that...looking forward to it!
Debby, your hair looks great! Thank you for that spice cake. And I love the cavalier way you say your table is sold out! Excellent!I hope every one enjoys the time they spend with Barbara and the other authors.
Piper
Hi, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteI got the honor of hearing you speak at the women's fiction mini conference before RWA this year!!! So nice to hear your awesome story! Thanks for sharing!

Debra, I heart NY!
ReplyDeleteI love your story, Barbara! Talk about doing what you love and seeing success! England and now Italy! You're one lucky lady!
ReplyDeleteEva, I know how lucky I am and I'm grateful every single day.
ReplyDeleteHi Eva!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful that Barbara is reaping the fruits of her labor!
Deb M,
ReplyDeleteMaybe another year? Hope so!
Debby, thanks for having me on Seekerville today. It's always fun to come to your parties. I'll check in for a while yet in case anyone else shows up. Just let me know the lucky winner of the books I'm giving away.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, thanks for being with us in Seekerville today! We loved seeing all your pictures and hearing the fantastic details of your trip to the UK!
ReplyDeleteYou made our birthday celebration even more special!!!
Hugs and love!
Thanks, Seekerville, for giving Barbara such a warm welcome today! Hopefully, she'll come back to visit again soon.

Thanks again, Barbara, for joining us in Seekerville!
Thanks for sharing today Barbara. I found you on Facebook. I missed your sixth birthday bash but I will join you for your seventh!
ReplyDeletePlease enter me but not for the tickets. I would love to attend one day!
I have to say I love Barbara Vey. 3 or 4 years ago I stumbled across a Facebook post regarding an online party. I had never heard of an online party before. I started commenting and making friends, went crazy when author Dianna Love responded to a comment I made. I have found so many new authors to read and follow some of which have lead to friendships that I did not think we're possible. Not to mention I have become addicted to online parties and won some amazing things. I desperately tried to find Barbara at the RT convention this year and always missed her. I would like to say thank you to Barbara for allowing all this to happen for me and just being such a great, giving person. (Please don't include me in the ticket giveaway, I would love to go but not feasible for me to)
