Monday we welcomed back Abingdon Press author Jennifer AlLee. Her post was, "How Much Reality Does Your Fiction Really Need?" Sara Ella and Mark Abel are winners of her new release, Last Family Standing.
Still slightly brain-dead after returning from the RWA conference in San Antonio, Abingdon Press and Heartsong Presents author Myra Johnson shared a few gems from the workshops she attended at RWA 2014 with her post, "A Random Recap." Sharon Timmer is the winner of a copy of Myra's award-winning historical romance, When the Clouds Roll By, recently named a finalist for the Georgia Romance Writers Maggie Award!
Question: What’s one of the most, if not THE MOST, important component in a romance? Answer: The Hero! Wednesday we joined Julie Lessman for PART 3 of her exploration as to the most common hero types in Inspirational Romance today in her blog entitled, “From Sweet to Swoon … Ramping Up the Sigh Factor in our Heroes -- PART 3”! Julie provided her favorite tips to ramp up the hero swoon factor in your novels from ho-hum to hot. Jennifer Smith is the winner of a signed copy of any of her books, including her upcoming release, Surprised by Love.

LOL ... LOVE the "I cheated on my fears" quote ... made me smile!!
ReplyDeleteBut in a more serious vein, I loved the "let your dreams be bigger than your fears ... your faith stronger than your feelings" because as an emotional CDQ, that's where my biggest struggle is -- the faith vs. feelings scenario, so that quote really resonated with me. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for announcing the pre-order of my November release of "High Country Holiday!" Seems a bit strange to see both of our snowy book covers in the dog days of August, but that season is approaching faster than we can imagine. Where did the summer go?
The "Never too old" quote spoke to me as I have been wondering if I can really begin writing novels at my age. That also makes the "Let your dreams be bigger than your fears quote" appropriate. Not sure I should ask Mary though! :) But I am not "really" old and don't have white curls so maybe she won't give up on me yet.

Hmmmm...the "you're never too old to have goals" is sounding more appropriate for me....but the "dream bigger, act louder, and faith is stronger" is perfect! Thanks for that and the reminder that the self-editing class is coming up....I need to finish that WIP in September so I HAVE SOMETHING TO EDIT!
Enjoyed Myra's RWA recap and pictures last week and looking forward to Debby's this week. These recaps make me feel like I was attending RWA along with you all!

You really need to get yourself a girlfriend, guy.
In my experience marrying anything other than a wife is always a bad thing. But then I’ve just come back from speaking at a funeral and my POV is in an altered state. "He's married to his work" often foreshadows a divorce. “Married to his dreams”…forget him girl!

ReplyDeleteI love a synopsis!
I love to write them, read them, and read about how to write them. Here’s the best advice I found in all my synopses books:
Don’t look at your notes. Let the story cool a little. Then write the synopsis from memory as if it were the blurb at the back of the book cover. This way only the most important story events should come to mind.
The next best advice: give yourself permission to leave out large parts of your plot. A synopsis does not have to follow the order of the plot or scene sequence. It’s just a little story about what happens in your story. It should serve as a great coming attraction.
I think a great synopsis shows your story is really worth writing. Reading a great synopsis should act like getting a halftime pep talk from Vince Lombardi.
