  21. Well it's not exactly pithy and I have no idea who it should be attributed to but...

"A writer is a writer not because she writes well and easily, because she has amazing talent, or because everything she does is golden. A writer is a writer because, even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows shows any sign of promise , you keep writing anyway."

  23. I brought coffee and Gummy's orange cookies.... and they're frosted and everything and we'll share Gummy's love.... Gummy is a friend's mother who is now in a memory care unit and she's not quite sure how she got there, but she's pretty sure it was a PLOT.... and she's waging counter-attacks to re-gain her freedoms...

The cookies are from more genteel times in Gummy's life, before it all got jumbled into a mass of decades-old confusion.

Try some! You will love them!

  79. I love these two, especially the firat one:

There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.
    Ernest Hemingway

If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.

  80. What a great WE!!

Not sure who said it first, but I saw it first here on Seekerville:

"Don't get it right, get it written!"

Changed the way I write. It's one of the few quotes I wrote on a post-it and stuck over my desk :)

  81. Jackie Smith! How interesting you should say that.

I have index cards with verses and prayer needs. One says, "Show me what's on today's agenda, Lord."

Funny, or not so funny how we plan the day around our agenda and not His. Still learning.

  82. Evelyn Hill, Barbara Burke! Welcome to Seekerville and good quotes!! Brava!

Trixi. I love those, Google or not!

Meg Brummer. That should be tattooed on all of us. I believe that was Terri Blackstock who said that when she visited.

  83. Heidi, I love Douglas Adams!

“A learning experience is one of those things that says, 'You know that thing you just did? Don't do that.”
― Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt

This could be applied to much of writing and publishing as a whole.

  87. Rhonda, I think Thomas is wrong with a capital W!!!!!

    Or he's silly.

    Possibly that.

    And he's a BOY.

    That could explain it!!!! :)

  91. I'm a simple man. My quote is "BICHOK" or "Butt in Chair - Hands on Keyboard." (Thankfully, spellcheck doesn't try to correct the acronym.)

  93. Stopping back in at almost midnight Saturday - - reading some of the comments and saw Mary Connealy's first one - - Keep CLAM and proofread - - hahaha!!!! Love it! :)

Evelyn, your kitty looks like my Sully!! I love Tuxedo kitties!! :)

And I'm not sure if anyone else posted it, but I still love: There are 3 rules to writing a great novel. Unfortunately no one knows what they are. (I'm thinking it was from Somerset Maugham?)

  94. Patti Jo, that's funny!

All right, I'm going to one of my Ruthy faves when your knickers get in a twist... "Pull up your big girl panties and move on."

And how about this from Lucy Maude Montgomery when raising children takes precedence? "I'm writing living epistles now."

That line gave me hope through the years of raising six kids and working two jobs because if Anne of Green Gables could do it... so could Ruthy!!!

  95. Oh wow, I love so many of these quotes! Need to copy some of these down. DEBBY used one of my favorites: "I don't like writing. I like having written." Dorothy Parker. Sums up my feelings pretty well most days :-)

CINDY, I love, love this: On my son's t-shirt: My mom can write a book about your mom

MARY, this made me laugh out loud: "Keep clam and proofread" and, "Spellcheck is for loosers"

Here are a few others I like: "Start writing no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on." Louis L'Amour

“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is … the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”
    Mark Twain

"You can't blame a writer for what the characters say." Truman Capote

"Write like no one's reading." Unknown.

Thanks for such an awesome WE, TINA, and I hope you had a wonderful birthday!! Congratulations to all the winners!

    There's a life out there!!! :>

"The first six revisions anyone could have written. But the seventh: that's Anatole France."
    Anatole France

"Whether in housecleaning or in writing, neglect often results in a false economy."

"That it is clean and well organized is no defense for clutter."

"When there is only one chair left in the house open to sit in, clutter's ability to hide the need for housecleaning is mostly lost."

In Italy, for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace -- and what did they produce? The cuckoo clock.

  101. A scene from the upcoming movie, SPIDER-MAN REBOOT, was filmed over the lake behind my house last night. So fun to watch! Helicopters, stadium lights turning the dark lake into near daylight, boats, props of a playground lakeside, artificial plants and portable light poles.

They told me I was too close to the water at one point and would be seen in the filming. :) Yes, I did move back into the underbrush.

The big scene seemed to be filmed between 1:30 and 2:30 AM. Chopper overhead. Lights that lit up my living room. Lots of action. By 4 AM, the set was quiet!

Can't wait to see the movie and spot my backyard! :)

"It takes an awful lot of time to not write a book." Douglas Adams

Please enter me in the drawing, and thanks for the chance to win!!

  110. Hi Tina:

You made a very astute comment when you quoted:

"In Italy, for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace -- and what did they produce? The cuckoo clock."

And yet, doesn't it all get down to the quality of life? Where would you have rather lived and raised a family? Florence or Switzerland? And note: you would still have had the benefit of the Renaissance and all the great artists as well as a great supply of cuckoo clocks in Geneva.
