The Weekend Edition

Welcome to our tenth year!
"Look How Far We've Come!"

If you are not familiar with our giveaway rules, take a minute to read them here. It keeps us all happy! All winners should send their name, address, and phone number to claim prizes. Send to Seekers@Seekerville.net

Seekerville New Year's Eve Party Winners can be found here.

Wednesday: Contest Update winners of Rocky Mountain Cowboy are Cynthia Herron, Jeri Hoag and Sara Beth Williams. Winners of Be Still mugs are Marianne Barkman and Trixi.

Thursday: Laurie Tomlinson's winner of 3 to 5-page short synopsis critique is Jackie Layton.

Monday: You Asked & We Answered! Today we're kicking off a four-part series to address questions you submitted in our survey. Part 1 will be "Conflict and Character Arc." Missy Tippens will share resources to help us learn (or review what we already know) about internal and external conflict as well as handling character arcs. She'll be giving away copies of how-to books for two lucky winners!

Tuesday: You Asked & We Answered! Baffled by social media and other techy stuff? Myra Johnson shares some of the tips and tricks she’s learned along the way. Lots of links to other helpful sources, too! Myra will be giving away a social media how-to guide as well as a copy of one of her books.

Wednesday:  Is LiveStream Video (Periscope and Facebook Live) right for you? Well ... if you're looking for a new way to reach your readers and potential fans, Cara Grandle, novelist and host of the weekly Periscope show, Writers Encouragement, has something you will not want to miss!  Cara will teach you the ins and the outs of how it’s done, so you can see if it is a good fit for you, including a giveaway of a free video course!

Thursday: You Asked & We Answered! In our survey, you wanted some specific counsel on query letters and proposals, so Ruth Logan Herne takes the helm to answer that request. She'll talk query letters, proposals and what's changed while offering up a critique of a query letter or cover letter for one writer and a copy of "Home on the Range" for a writer or reader!

It's not too late to stop by Petticoats & Pistols to read Tina Radcliffe's blog post and get your name in the Stetson for a chance to win Rocky Mountain Cowboy.

On January 9th, our very own "Ruthy" Ruth Logan Herne will be featured on Annie's "Just Commonly" blog with some words about "New Beginnings"... and a shout out for the joy of writing cowboy stories! Stop by and chat with Annie and Ruthy as they talk about the kind of stories that stir your heart... and soul.

And on January 21, Ruthy will be the guest speaker at the 2017 inspirational kickoff meeting for Western New York RWA. This delightful local RWA chapter meets in the community room of  Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Josephs's campus at 2605 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14225.

CLAIMING MARIAH by Pam Hillman is on sale during the month of January! Grab the link to your favorite retailer HERE.

After her father’s death, Mariah Malone sends a letter that will forever alter the lives of her family. When Slade Donovan, strong willed and eager for vengeance, shows up on her front porch, Mariah is not ready to hear his truths: her father’s farm, the only home she’s ever known, was bought with stolen gold. With Slade ready to collect his father’s rightful claim and force Mariah and her family out on the streets, Mariah must turn to God for guidance. Though Mr. Frederick Cooper, a local landowner, promises to answer her financial woes if she agrees to be his bride, Mariah finds herself drawn instead to the angry young man demanding her home.

Myra Johnson visited Leslie McKee's blog on Friday to chat about her latest release, Castles in the Clouds. Read Leslie's review, join the conversation, and enter the drawing for a book giveaway! Contest is open for 5 more days!

January is the time for My One Word. Have you picked yours yet? Let us know in the comments. Tina Radcliffe is giving away an ecopy of Michael Ashcraft and Rachel Olsen's My One Word. Winner announced in the next Weekend Edition.

The Golden Heart Contest-   Contest opens on December 1- Deadline January 11. The Golden Heart requires a full manuscript and is open to RWA members. The cost is $30. Once again Seekerville will provide an opportunity for entry reimbursement to writers who enter the Golden Heart in the category formerly known as inspirational. We're going to reimburse 10 entries -if the category makes it. 1. What a great WE! This week is going to be a great week in Seekerville. (Not that there's such a thing as a bad week in Seekerville...)

I went back and forth for the first couple of days of 2017, but then Sunday's sermon from John 15 tipped the scale for me, so my one word this year is ABIDE. Abide in Christ and him in me. He is the vine, I am a branch.

Now I'm off to read through a couple of links, add a few more words to the WIP, and call it a night. See you all in the morning!

  2. Happy Weekend Seekerville! My one word is MINISTRY. The word to remind me that my writing = my ministry.
    From GotQuestions.org:

"Ministry" is from the Greek word diakoneo, meaning "to serve" or douleuo, meaning "to serve as a slave." In the New Testament, ministry is seen as service to God and to other people in His name. Jesus provided the pattern for Christian ministry—He came, not to receive service, but to give it (see Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45; John 13:1-17).

    4. Hi Tina, Great word for you. As Jackie said, you minister to all of us here in Seekerville. Seekerville has been your ministry and we truly love and have been so blessed by that ministry. We look forward to see what new ministries you are embarking on this new year. Best wishes.

What great fun in SEEKERVILLE this week! Looking forward to more fun next week. As always, thank you, for all the great links you share-- will have to check those out.

This is only the second year I've chosen "one word." My one word for 2017 is "persevere." It's really part of my life motto, but it seems fitting. Lol

  4. What a great WE, Tina. And congratulations to all the winners!

I was so disappointed to miss the New Year's Eve party this year. I can only imagine all the fun that was had! We had just gotten back from traveling, and our family just needed some down time together. :)

My one word for the year is INTENTIONAL. Though I know it's going to be dealing with outward things like relationships, health and writing, God's already been showing me things my heart needs to contemplate in order to live an intentional life. I have a feeling He'll take this word in directions I never thought about before.

Last week's posts were great, and I'm looking forward to this coming week at Seekerville!

I read the link about ways to convey emotions. Great post!

    1. Great word Jackie. One thing I did, but not for that purpose was to write down all the little answers to prayers and/or all the ways I saw how the Lord was there each day. It really did bump up my faith and made me a believer. I wasn't expecting that benefit, but it surely did work. smile

Thank you for another great WE, Tina. Some of the links I've read, but there are a couple I plan to check out.
My one word for this year is today. After a year of focusing on what was next, I need to step back into the present.

    1. Love this word and its so true isn't it? If we focus on today, then we don't get into worry and frustration about the past or future, which we can't change anyway. LOL Love it. Thanks for reminding me.

  9. Deciding on my One Word for 2017 has been so challenging. I love the word Joy but I have used it before. And then, as i read this WE of Seekerville, it came to me. ENCOURSGE. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 tells us to "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing" And that is what the Seekerville community does!
    Blessings!!

  10. Congrats to all winners!

I love the ONE WORD concept of narrowing our focus to one specific area to concentrate on. My word this year is shelter. God is my shelter everyday, all the time, no matter what I'm going through. Which then leads me back to last year's word of gratitude. Where would I be without that shelter? So thankful.

I think it's so amazing even though I have my own word, every time I hear someone else's word I spend the day pondering it along with my own. Like when I add Tina's word to mine it becomes-while I'm feeling the comfort of the shelter of God for myself what can I do to serve or minister to someone else who needs that comfort?
I love Jill's word too, be present, be mindful of today, because really that's all we have, so live today to the fullest.

Virginia is in the middle of a blizzard and may get a foot of snow, great day for reading and coffee!

  11. During the New years Party someone mentioned the word for the year and so that morning I went into prayer and my word jumped out at me. So that made me laugh because when that happens I've learned to take heed because it is something I really need. My word is Listen. Oh my. I only I would, my days would be so much easier. LOL
Happy writing and happy start of the new year. Yay. I love new beginnings.

My one word "Joy" was a carry over from last year. However, the Lord has placed a second word in my heart that for me, ties with "Joy". That word is "Persevere". I feel blessed with both words.

  13. I am really looking forward to the blog posts this week. I have had multiple questions on all the topics (except for the LiveStreaming thing, which I don't know enough about to ask questions).
I need a word. I'll toss some ideas around and get back to you.
All my stories are in the editing/rewriting stage or being shopped around, so I started a new one on Jan. 1. I'm just playing with it now, but have high hopes for it. I needed to be creating something, rather than editing/rewriting, so we'll see where it goes. I'm taking the easy road on this one and setting it in New Hampshire, around a town and venue I know fairly well, leaving me more room to develop my characters.
I'm working at home this morning and expect a snow storm, so I should be checking back in again.
I can't wait till Thursday! It's a RUTHY day and also my birthday! RUTHY, can you make me a virtual birthday cake? Lots of icing, please. :)

  14. Hibernating this weekend. The snow has stopped and the sun is out with the snow on the trees and the blue sky in the background. It is supposed to be in the single digits tonight and below zero tomorrow night. I measured 6 inches of snow here in the mountains of NC. Looks like I got my birthday wish this year. 16. My word is pray. You are right about God's confirmation of the One Word. I was walking a park near my home to get the brisk mile in (step in knee replacement surgery) and had to do another half lap. On the way back, I met two college students who said that they noticed I was favoring my right leg and could they pray for the leg! What a sweet short prayer that was with other Christians and confirmed that indeed my word is pray. For those who need to look at the steps in selecting a word, there is a website (I am not sure if we are to give url's in our responses). So happy to join my Seeker sisters in their "One WORD."

  28. I do so love the WE. I had to read it in snippets today because I had to go to the grocery store. While I was there, I checked their books and they are now carrying Love Inspired! Woot! But they put them way down on the bottom of the shelf at the end of the row. So -- I might have rearranged them so they were front and centre. While I was working away a lady came up and asked me if the Love Inspired line was any good. After I finished waxing poetic she went away with Tina's, Margaret Daley's...and two romantic suspense...um, Christmas Conspiracy and Stalking Season. And then, as I toddled off I noticed a woman who had been hovering down the row start leafing through the Love Inspireds too. Bwahahahhaha! That's my marketing work done for the day.

My One Word is Aisling -- Irish for Dream/Vision. I've lost the ability to dream over the last little while so I thought it was time to do something about that. Don't enter me in the draw though cause I still can't read ebooks.

  36. My day certainly did not turn out like I thought, Around 10:00 am my brother came by the house and told me that my precious Mom went to heaven this morning a little before 7:00 I had just sat down to do some writing. For some reason I am finding it so difficult to sit down and write or even read. One minute I am all right and the next I am crying. I just talked to Mom last night. She had a cold, but nothing serious. Dad said she woke up coughing so he gave her some medicine and then she said she couldn't breathe. He called 911 and she left this world before they could get to the house in the midst of the snowstorm. Dad said she went so quickly and peacefully. I will be going to see my Dad tomorrow after the roads are safe to travel. It is already down to 15 degrees. I don't know yet when the service will be. With the bad weather and it being a weekend, they may not release her to the funeral home until Monday or later. I would appreciate prayers. Mom was 87 and loved the Lord.

I took a copy of what I was preparing to enter in a contest for Mom to look over. She taught grammar for many years and has written several magazine articles as well as devotionals. She encouraged me to keep on writing. Every time I talked with Mom this week, she seemed to be extra loving and kind.

What is going to be extra hard is the fact I called her every morning at 10:00. Now I won't be able to talk to her.

The Lord has been so good to me today. I can feel his presence.

Tomorrow will be tough as it is my birthday.

If I were to pick One Word for 2017, it would be fun! I haven't had time for much of that in ages, and I miss it. Probably comes from having a retired husband who is having the time of his life while I'm slogging away at a long list of must-do's. I'm ready to do some playing.

    1. So true, Keli, about not having enough time to play! I'm focusing on spending more time with my sweet hubby each day...even if it's just watching a Hallmark movie together. Last night we watched my all-time favorite, A Country Wedding. It always touches my heart!

    2. DEBBY, I want to look for A Country Wedding at another day and time. Sounds so good.

  43. Congratulations, Seekerville, for entering your TENTH year of providing blessings to so many of us!!! Congratulations to the winners...and thanks for the WE info. Great week ahead. The two links on where and how to start the story will be especially helpful as I revise my opening this week.

My One Word is SERVING. I kept searching for a different word, but God sent me the flashing sign by giving me this verse just yesterday: As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10. I don't know how this word will impact my year, but I know this is the word God placed in my heart.

Blessings to all for the week ahead!

  45. I love reading all of these comments! So much to encourage and inspire here.

I pondered for quite a long time about my word for 2017. I went back and forth on a couple of choices. I even thought of not choosing a word. Then I was reading my Bible and the word "Blessings" stood out. I thought about it. I have anxiety issues. Have since I was a teenager. I tend to worry about little things and dwell too much on the bad. I think this year I'm supposed to just trust in the Lord and reflect on the blessings and graces He has given me.

  46. HAPPY WEEKEND, ALL!

Oh, I just LOVE the one word!! So I prayed about what mine would be and was a little surprised when the word "intimacy" came into my brain, so I disregarded it because well ... uh ... the world has almost ruined that word for many people. But every time I prayed, that's the word that kept coming to me, so I'm claiming it.

But ever since I've claimed it, everything that I've been reading or watching (i.e. church sermon this morning) is talking about drawing closer to Jesus in a deeper, more intimate relationship, which frankly, is what I've been praying/striving for in the last six months. Because I want to be so close to Jesus that it's me and Him in everything I say, do, feel, and hope. Spiritual intimacy with the Love of my life.

Tina, LOVE "ministry," my friend -- God using each of us through the gifts He's given -- AMEN!!

Jill, that is SUCH a cool and unique word, my friend -- focusing on today like the Bible says, "one day at a time." VERY cool!!

And, Debby, "blessings" is such a perfect word for 2017 because I truly believe we are on the threshold of God's greatest blessings in centuries for His children.

    Hugs!!
    Julie

  47. I've loved reading everyone's words as they represent a wonderful spectrum of God's gifts. Last year my word was persevere, and this year my word is believe. Hope everyone is staying safe and depending on where you live, thinking of all those impacted by this weekend's snow and ice. Take care everyone.

  48. Mine is a two word phrase this year.

    Infinitely More

I posted about it on my blog last week. It comes with a verse (Eph. 3:20-21) and an image of the galaxy...

  49. Hi Seekers:

My one word is 'recovery'. May you never have occasion to select this one word yourself. Also please give thanks often because (even with many problems) something can happen in the blink of an eye which may cause you to wish, for the rest of your life, that you could just return to where you once were. Prayers make the best 'thank yous'.

Are you going to have a listing of all the One Words and who took them as you have in past years?

    Vince

P.S. I bought the OneWord book last year.

  50. I'm not sure about my one word for the year. As I've read through the comments though, the word APPLY keeps popping into my mind, so perhaps... it would make sense. I'm attempting to get back into a daily writing habit and starting very baby-step small. 100 words per day. Keeps it very doable while I focus on the Gupster and hubby. Both tend to want much attention from mommy/wife, which tends to eat away at writing time. Guess I need to apply myself to tasks at hand.
Thanks again to Seekerville for the huge blessing you are to writers everywhere and everyWHEN in their writing careers.

  51. Another great WE! :) Love all the info.

When I started thinking about my one word for the year, I had two words that kept coming to my mind over and over. Since I'm a middle school teacher by day and a writer by night, I thought it was fitting to just pick both. Believe (for writing) and Inspire (for teaching).

  52. My One Word is RENEW. Still need to pick a verse and a picture to go with it.

  53. My word for 2017 is ABIDE. Everything else falls into place, after that one word. Praise God.

  54. My word for 2017 is Jesus (as in, "be more like Jesus"). ✝ 💜
