I pray this is a blessed year for each of you, full of peace, love, and good health. Oh, and full of lots of reading and writing. (Or for those of you who aren't writers...full of reading and more reading!)

  3. The coffee is on. I'm baking raspberry and white chocolate scones right now! You're all invited to have one.

And lest you think highly of me for it, I should admit that they were bought as frozen dough from the youth group at our church for a fundraiser. ;)

  9. QUESTION

Does anyone out there not like Southern Cornbread?
    >

I've make the most wonderful, Paula Dean, southern cornbread. It's 2 1/2" high, soft, fluffy, smooth, buttery, and almost melts in your mouth. Has a most wonderful corn taste (unsalted butter, of course, to bring out the corn flavor) and even has an after-taste that doubles the enjoyment! This is true even after it is three days old!

Now the only way I could get this heavenly cornbread is find the recipe myself and make it myself!

My wife's whole family are Northern cornbread nuts! Their cornbread is about 3/4" high, rock hard, and when you get it in your mouth, it turns into a million particles with the mouth-feel of beach sand.

I absolutely can't understand this. Why would anyone like Northern cornbread? And by the way, I'm about as northern as you get! I like my gravy brown and clam chowder red but the south understands cornbread!

    1. I love the Jiffy Corn Bread corn casserole that's like a spoonbread.... But now you've got me wondering. What you described sounds more cakey like the corn muffins we sell up here.... a moist, grainy texture...

I'm not a huge cornbread fan, Vince, so maybe someone else is smarter about the great cornbread debate...

      Delete
    2. Vince, I haven't found the textures quite as different as the level of sweetness. Most southern cornbread has a pinch of sugar at least. :) However, I don't think I've ever made Paula's recipe. I just buy cornbread mix and make it according to package directions. Then I add a bit of sugar. Then I heat an iron skillet in the oven with bacon grease or butter (usually butter these days). Then I pour the batter into the hot skillet and butter. That makes a nice crispy crust and soft center! :) However, I learned my cornbread baking in Kentucky where I grew up. So it's not as southern as Paula's would be.

BTW, mine does not feel like sand. LOL

      Delete
    3. Vince, you're my kind of cornbread guy. Mama called it johnnycake...
light, fluffy, and sweet. The secret is buttermilk, at least a third cup of sugar, a mixture of white flour and cornmeal, and of course, unsalted butter. Nothin' better with a bowl of ham and brown (pinto) beans. Mmm, mmm, good!

  10. Cheering on the new year and all the possibilities!

Yesterday was a lot of fun. I enjoyed everyone's "one word" choices for the year, even wrote a lot of them down to ponder along with my own.

Thanks to Terri Weldon for the e-copy of her book, The Christmas Bride Wore Boots, looks like a fun read!

Thanks to Tina for the adorable library card tote, so cute. I can't wait to load up my books and kindle!

  11. Wow!

All those unique page views -- of over a thousand -- is very impressive, however, I think the large number of individual prizes Seekerville has awarded in 2016 is even more impressive -- and generous.

Has anyone even counted how many prizes were awarded?

    Anyway, from a multi-winner in 2016, a thousand thanks.

And thank you Myra for sharing your one word RECLAIM. God worked through you my dear, and I am grateful and excited to make it my own.

  14. FUN QUESTION

Which book will be the first book that you finish reading in 2017?

For me it is a horserace between:

"Rocky Mountain Cowboy" -- large print paperback
"Cocaine Blues" -- small print hardback book
"The Pastor's Christmas Courtship" -- Kindle book

    1. Hi Vince, a blessed New Year to you!

I've read Tina and Glynna's books, both good.

I kept hearing the Seven Brides for Seven Texans collection was excellent so that's what I started yesterday. The first story by Gabrielle Meyer was great, hope they're all that good.
      Happy 2017 reading!

    2. This is a great question, Vince... I don't spend much time reading in the winter, it's my dedicated writing time before Mother Nature warms everything up and piles work outside my door on the farm.... but I'll be interested to see what books folks mention....

    3. Vince, I've had Mary Connealy's "No Way Up" on my night table since it first released so I finally started reading it last night. Good way to start a new year!

  17. Sandra, thank you for the book bundle. We will be traveling some the beginning of this year and I can think of no better gift than some Seeker reading! Ruthy, thanks for being the bookend on this holiday...makes me wonder if you sleep at all? I know you have an early morning schedule for writing...do you begin at 4 or 5 in the am?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Olivia, I've had to adjust my schedule a little this year. My husband retired and his farm is busy so I found that I was being interrupted during the day. Now I get up at 3:00 or 3:30 and I'm writing by 4:15.... And that gives me two solid hours before my daycare kids get here.... and then if I can get one more sprint done after they hop on the bus, I'm solid! I go to bed early especially in the winter, but it is so nice to wake up to a quiet house in the middle of the night. :) Weird, I know.... but hey, if it ain't broke.... You know the rest!!!

    2. Ruthy, you could write in the limo and host your own TV morning show getting up at 3 in the morning. Girl, I feel like a slug compared to you!!

    1. I hear you! My first thing up is prayer time... to get my head straight. And it's funny, in my head, while I'm praying, I'm seeing or feeling whatever book I'm working on. I think the important thing is to find what works for us... and develop the habit around that. It's funny because once the habit is developed... it is so completely natural. And I love how you spell commitment, pritty ladie! :)
