The Weekend Edition

If you are not familiar with our giveaway rules, take a minute to read them here. It keeps us all happy! All winners should send their name, address, and phone number to claim prizes. Send to Seekers@Seekerville.net

Winners of Peace in the Valley are Wilani Wahl and Barbara Fox!

Monday: Mary Connealy asked everyone to consider writing pulp fiction. The winner of a copy of Long Time Gone is Phyllis Wheeler.

Tuesday: Seekerville was delighted to welcome back Eva Marie Everson with her thoughtful post, "The Choices We Make." Tracey Hagwood is the winner of her latest release from Tyndale, The One True Love of Alice-Ann.

Wednesday: Jenni DeWitt visited to tell us Why she switched from Indy publishing to Traditional. The winner of Jenni's book Why Won't God Talk to Me? (Surprising Ways He Already Is) is Anne Carol.

Thursday: Connie Queen was our hostess today, with her post, "Stripping Your Characters of the Their Identities: Ramping Up Internal Conflict the Easy Way." Cindy W and Theresa Van Meter are the lucky winners of Seekerville mugs. Thank you, Connie.

Monday: Stephanie Dees, Love Inspired author of The Dad Next Door,  joins us today with her post, "Long-Term Critique Partnerships: Myth or Magic?" She's sharing tips and has a double giveaway!

Tuesday: Tina Radcliffe is in the house, with "The Art of Listening." Bring your ears, and listen closely for a terrific giveaway as well.

Wednesday: Award-winning author Pepper Basham joins us to take the pulse of "The Heart of Christian Fiction," so be sure to stop by for a chance to win Pepper's latest release, Just the Way You Are.

Thursday: Join Ruthy Logan Herne today as she talks about "Taming the Wild West of Westerns... But Not Too Much!" Folks who love westerns know there's something broader, wilder, more rugged and demanding about eking a living from the land in the west. And while it's not the gunfighter-filled dirt streets of pre-1900, there's enough crazy going on these days to make these contemporary plots just as gripping as their historic counterparts. Ruthy's opening the prize vault and has an AUDIBLE copy of Back in the Saddle to give away to one lucky commenter! (commentor) Pick your spelling!

Friday: Welcome to the Best of the Archives where we feature a post from our past. Comments are closed on Fridays to allow us to catch up on reading and writing.

Myra Johnson is delighted to announce that her historical romance Castles in the Clouds has been named a finalist for the Selah Awards! Winners to be announced May 24 at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. You can also catch Myra at Sherida Stewart's blog next Tuesday, May 9, for Sherida's #TuesdayTea review of A Rose So Fair, book 3 in the Flowers of Eden series. Be sure to comment for a chance to win a copy of the book!

Congratulations to Debby Giusti who was added to the RWA Honor Roll!

The RWA Honor Roll recognizes current RWA members who have a work of romance fiction, excluding multi-author anthologies and multi-author boxed sets, that has: appeared on any New York Times bestseller list; appeared on the Publishers Weekly Top Ten bestseller list or any other PW best-seller list based solely on format, genre, or region; appeared in the top 50 of the USA Today bestseller list; or sold at least 100,000 copies in a single language, including copies from digital, print and audio formats, as well as reissues of the identical work that do not appear in multi-author anthologies and multi-author boxed sets.

Amish Refuge, the first book in Debby Giusti’s new Amish Protectors series, hit bookstores May 1st. Find your copy, print or digital, at Amazon. Print copies are also available at Walmart, K-Mart and anywhere Love Inspired stories are sold.
No Way Up, book #1 in the Cimarron Legacy Series is on sale now for only $2.99 ebook. When Cimarron ranch patriarch Chance Boden is caught in an avalanche, the quick actions of hired hand Heath Kincaid save him. Badly injured, Chance demands that his will be read and its conditions be enforced immediately.

Without anyone else to serve as a witness, Heath is pressed into reading the will. If Justin, Sadie, and Cole Boden don't live and work at home for the entire year, the ranch will go to their low-down cousin Mike.

Then Heath discovers the avalanche was a murder attempt, and more danger might follow. Deeply involved with the family, Heath's desire to protect Sadie goes far beyond friendship. The danger keeps them close together, and their feelings grow until being apart is the last thing on their minds.

$0.99 cent Ebook Special - Stealing Jake is on sale for $0.99 cents during the month of May.

When Livy O’Brien spies a young boy jostling a man walking along the boardwalk, she recognizes the act for what it is. After all, she used to be known as Light-Fingered Livy. But that was before she put her past behind her and moved to the growing town of Chestnut, Illinois, where she’s helping to run an orphanage. Now she’ll do almost anything to protect the street kids like herself.

Sheriff’s deputy Jake Russell had no idea what he was in for when he ran into Livy―literally while chasing down a pickpocket. With a rash of robberies and a growing number of street kids in town―as well as a loan on the family farm that needs to be paid off―Jake doesn’t have time to pursue a girl. Still, he can’t seem to get Livy out of his mind. He wants to get to know her better . . . but Livy isn’t willing to trust any man, especially not a lawman.

Deal Alert!! From May 5-11, book 1 in Julie Lessman's Winds of Change series, A Hope Undaunted, will be on sale for only 99 cents, so if you haven't read book 4 in Julie's O'Connor saga, you'll want to take advantage.

This is Julie's favorite book she's ever written, so if you've already read it and liked it, then please spread the word, okay? Here are the links for the sale that runs MAY 5-11: AMAZON / B & N / CBD

  1. Defenestrate has been one of my favorite words since high school. Last year I actually used it somewhere on FB for real, like it fit the actual conversation! I should have taken a print screen of that though because I can't remember what the conversation was about now. :( But it was very likely in regards to how I felt like defenestrating myself during writing this last year. :)

  2. LOLOLOL. I like that word too. It sounds like removing the stuffing from a favorite stuffed animal.

I'm also loving JAWN. My cat got me into another gnarly jawn again.

  10. What a jam packed weekend edition! Congratulations to the Semi-Finalists in the Genesis Semi-Finalists and the Daphne Finalists! Congratulations to all of this weeks winners too! I am over the moon excited that I won one of the Seeker mugs. I LOVE mugs. It will be my new daily favorite! Thank you Seekers!

I love the word Retronym. I have never heard of it before but as old as I am I can use the term and know of what I speak. As in I remember the days of snail mail, film camera (I still have one that is never used) and of course the paper book and they are all retronyms. I love the library tote bags, library cards are also retronyms I guess.

I would love to have my name tossed into the hat for the package of books.

May everyone be blessed this weekend! I'm off to continue packing up Mom's house.

  12. Nothing beats The Weekend Edition. I feel like such an old timer when I look at the Genesis finalists. Makes me almost miss the contest circuit. Almost. Congratulations to the finalists! And I hope this means you'll be able to go to conference, too!
    Myra's book covers are exquisite.
And I was thrilled to see salmagundi on the list. Strangely enough, my auto correct changed it to dachshunds. That had better not be a secret ingredient.
It also reminded me that my mom made a meat mixture called salamagotta or something that sounds like the same ingredients. (Not dachshunds)

  13. Wow! So many winners, finalists, new books! Seekerville is amazing.

No big words here. I'm working on a story for kids this weekend. I also have more tote bags than a person ought to have. You can throw my name in the bag for the books though. I've got a lot of those but that is one thing a person can never have enough of.

  14. Oh my goodness, I sit down to read the weekend edition like I do every Sat. morning and find I have a copy of The One True Love of Alice-Ann in my future! Thank you Eva Marie and Seekerville! Can't wait to read it!

Congratulations to Myra, Debby and all the contest finalists!

I couldn't get the weird wonderful words link to work, but I see enough of them used here to know I'd be in over my head, lol.

Lastly, in addition to Mary's book, No Way Up, which has now dropped to $1.99, Bethany and Revell have dozens of other books on sale for 1.99 too! I was able to get a good number I had on my want list including these~
A Heart Most Certain, by Melissa Jagears
A Note Yet Unsung, Tamera Alexander
For the Record, by Regina Jennings
Shadow of the Storm, by Connilyn Cossette

So if you love a good deal like I know a few of us do (TINA of the grocery shopping fame)check the sale out, I'm not sure how long it's going to last!

Happy weekend reading and writing everyone!

Is it strictly family time, no writing allowed, or do you still try to make word count? Personally, I find my habits have changed since college gal's been away. I write more on the weekends now, of course, but I'm just curious about everyone's habits. Any tips what works best if you're a weekend warrior? Thanks!

I'm still working 25 hours/week at day job, so that weekend writing time is precious. And this way it doesn't interfere with family because up here with a big family, there is always a family event!

  32. Oh my goodness! Those 7 Weird, Wonderful Words are delightful. I am so eager to share the real meaning of pumpernickel -- I can hear the hoots of laughter already. I've seen salmagundi on menus and always assumed it was Italian, since it usually has anchovies (a pause to explain that all my Sicilian relatives loved anchovies).

So I guess our heroine could have salmagundi to accompany her ham and swiss on pumpernickel sandwich while she listens to a recounting of the death by defenestration of a lickspittle.

    Or maybe not :-)

Congrats to all you winners. Kudos and wishes-for-the-best to you contest finalists and semi-finalists. What a thrill. And cheers for Ruthy's latest Stafford book. You Seekers can sure keep a reader busy!

Wishes for a productive (or not, if you'd rather) weekend. Hope everyone is safe as the bad weather marches through the country.

    Funny sentence, Chill :)

My husband loves pumpernickel for his sandwiches. I, however, am allergic to it so none for me, thank you. And I don't really want the library tote, just wanted to participate in the fun.

But I would love to win the "pkg of books!" so please enter me in that drawing.

May God bless and guide all of Seekerville!

I guess I'd better "lose myself" in my writing today!

    1. Patti Jo,
I'm feeling your pain. Hate to say goodbye. Especially hate to say goodbye to one of my children. I know your Mama Heart is sad. Sending hugs and love!

    2. I hate goodbyes!!! I get very "Marilla Cuthbert" about goodbyes, and my heart just aches when my kids go off even though I know it's normal.... but there's the mommy side of me that still wants to look out for them.

Weird.... but I'm glad you and Debby feel the same way.

  38. Goodness, what a salmagundi of links today! I've learned a lot -- like an electronic book (e-book) is a retronym. That's a handy jawn to know -- great dinner party fodder. I hope you don't think I'm a lickspittle for using too many weird words -- I wouldn't want to provoke you into silencing me by defrenestration!

  39. My reading list for May is definitely Salmagundi! I'm participating in the Clean Sweep ARC reading challenge and I'm planning on getting to some review books that have been on my list too long. I'd love to be entered for the surprise books too! Happy weekend!!!

Debby, tea's my comfort in all kinds of weather! In Modoc where we have our ranch everyone quotes that old saying, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes and it'll change!"

Congrats to all the contest finalists, giveaway winners and Debby and Myra!

LOVING these links. Especially the one about the editorial calendar, since I happened to be working on one this weekend and loved her tips in the article.

Also, I stammer a bit when I speak, especially around strangers or in nervous situations, so I've never been brave enough to call myself a sesquipedalian, though a long word pops out here and there when I'm comfortable, especially at home. I'm absolutely in love with the word defrenestration now. And I remember learning lickspittle (disgusting but vivid) from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers when Adam calls his brothers "a bunch of lily-livered, chicken-hearted lickspittles" for attempting to behave like gentlemen. :)
