DeleteNow, about that ice cream... I ran across a recipe in one of my homegrown Southern cookbooks the other day and just DROOLED....
Butterfinger Ice cream
1 large Cool Whip
6 Butterfinger bars, frozen and crushed
1/2 gallon CHOCOLATE milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Mix all ingredients and pour into a 4 quart freezer. Add "regular" milk to fill line on freezer if needed. Freeze.
As Ruthy likes to say, Oh my Stars! Doesn't that sound yummy?? And, ps, no raw eggs, not that I'm adverse to that, but still...
So Butterfinger Ice Cream coming up!!! :)

DeleteHi Pam: I don't know which I loved more: the movie with Kiera Knightley, or Kiera Knightley. She was the same age as Elizabeth was. Perfect casting I thought. Austen fans should also watch the special features on the movie's DVD as it shows how hard they worked on that movie.

DeleteMary, I totally agree on all! It is a great series and a marvelous book!!!! And Vince... I will still disagree kindly on that Kiera Knightley thing... If this was an election, I would be on the "Never Kiera!" side, not because I don't like her... Loved her in the pirate movies... but I don't see Elizabeth as anything like her and the production was rushed and kind of thin.... but we can blame that on Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle... she was my kind of Elizabeth, strong and just regal enough to be in your face... not in your face, but anyone's. :) Love that rendition!!!
DeleteHi Ruth: The thing about Kiera is that she is the kind of fresh beauty that a guy like Darcy would fall for even given her poor circumstances and awful mother. She provides the best motivation to explain Darcy's behavior. I think Kiera is the kind of Elizabeth a man would most want and lose his head over. If you have not watched the special features on the DVD, please do. I don't see that film as rushed. The sisters spend a week before filming living in the house being sisters. And when that pig walks thru the hallway, I knew this was a more realistic P&P. I though this film was the most real. I guess it gets down to what you prize most highly. And I don't like older women playing the very young Lizzie.
DeleteRUTH: BTW, my wife does not like Jane Austen and will not watch any of the Austen related movies...of which I own many. I did get her to Austenland and she didn't like that! So I find your position on Austen to be very welcoming. Now if we could just get the Yankees some pitching. Who could we trade?
DeleteLast year we had a box calendar of Pride and Prejudice. Every night my husband and I tore off the page and read it. By Dec. 31 we had read the entire book. My husband had never read it before. I don't think that is the best way to read if you haven't read it before. You don't get much each day. But it was fun.

DeleteCome this way, Tina. We have a cool front coming in this weekend. Highs for the next few days will be mid-80s. I even saw some overnight lows in the 50s predicted.
DeleteTina: 113! But what's the humidity? When I lived in Tucson I played golf in 118 degrees (according to the S&L big sign near the course) and the only place there was sweat was the palm of my hands which were covered with golf gloves. But then, I don't know about Phoenix. I liked Tucson's weather better than Tulsa's 98 degrees and 98 humidity. Would you rather be back in Tulsa?

DeleteThe sweet thing about Tulsa is that no matter how bad a gardener you were, everyone had a green thumb. My Boston fern and my Elephant ears were massive. Oh, and those azaleas and Magnolias.

They don't have their own story until book three and by then they are two year olds...somewhat more difficult actually. Newborns sleep and poop. That's easy.

Tina: Naming twins is easy in a vacuum but the names should fit the context, the parents lifestyle, the backstory, and the type of HEA. What are the parents like? Any Native American heritage? Willa and Rogenna (Parents fans of Will Rogers?) I am and it's in the right part of the state!

DeleteWOW! A Jane Austen Weekend! Love it! P&P was the only book I was forced to read in high school that I instantly loved! I went on to read all her novels on my own. And I didn't care about the romance. I loved the way she saw the world around her. The real romance was how I loved Austen!

Here's my comment: Look into this book, "A True Universally Acknowledged: 33 Great Writers on Why We Read Jane Austen"
Even if you don't love her work, you might love reading about why so many great writers do love her.
Tina: I went to pre-order "Claiming Her Cowboy" but they don't have the Kindle version available for pre-order. That's going to be my Christmas present.

Hi Pam: I went to pre-order "The Promise of Breeze Hill" and the Kindle edition was priced at a lot more than the print version. Was this a mistake? It seems odd to me. Can't wait to read it. It's not often a book is so highly rated in a setting that I most enjoy reading about as your "Promise of Breeze Hill". There are a lot of good books coming out in the months ahead but these long waits are quite the tease! :) Vince

DeleteCompletely off topic here, but wondering if anyone has ever experienced pantry moths. We've spent the last couple of days totally emptying the pantry, tracking down the source(s), and setting traps. I had never, ever, ever even heard of these things before now!!!
ReplyDeleteMyra, we had that nightmare years ago! After months of treating, we finally found the source. (Can't remember what it was.) So you're doing the best thing by clearing out everything and checking every box/bag/container. Once you find it and get rid of the source, you'll be fine.
DeleteI know one of the issues was some wild birdseed we had stored in the garage--in what I thought were airtight containers--NOT!!!
DeleteWe completely emptied the pantry and washed it down, and also vacuumed a bunch of moths off the walls, floor, and ceiling. After all that was done, Project Guy even painted the inside of the pantry. It looks great! Especially with all the stuff neatly sorted and the old stuff tossed.
I sincerely hope I NEVER have to deal with those critters again!!!
OH! A mealmoth. Just looked it up. We kept our flour and grains in the fridge in Tulsa to prevent them. I pretty much kept everything in the fridge in Tulsa. Even peanut butter. It was a crowded fridge.
DeleteMyra we call them mealy moths and they live in flour products. Oatmeal, too. I put everything that has a flour base...cake mixes, bisquick, flour, cornbread mixes...in the freezer. Do the clean up just like you're doing and from now on store flourish type things in the freezer.
DeleteAirtight does NOTHING! They prevail. Put the birdseed in the freezer, too.
DeleteIt's a theme for us.
We had those a couple of times.... and they can reproduce in the tops of closets and very unnoticeable places, the brats... but they loved pasta and cake mixes and anything with flour or rice... Obviously not gluten free critters! Our second infestation was from a bag of peanuts in the shell that someone gave us... and it sat in the back of a cupboard one summer and oh mylanta... so many bugs! EEEK!
DeleteThey can lay their little tiny eggs/larva at the edge of a Mason jar and the tiny critter CRAWLS up the ridges into the jar... and ruins whatever is in there. I used to have the cutest display of Mason jars on the counter and in the cupboard... no more. Stupid moths.
DeleteMy wife, a native Oklahoman, puts everything in Tupperware. I think we have more than a distributor. However, because she puts the tops and bottoms in two different locations, I don't have the patience to try and use them. So I put things in the refrigerator until she puts them in Tupperware. We have never had bug problems using this system. (It takes too much room up to put the tops on the bottoms...in case you were wondering.)

ReplyDeleteI am so excited about it! I have loved working as an educational interpreter, but I will not be returning to that job in August. Instead, I will be going back to being an itinerant teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing, a position I held years ago before I married and decided to stay home to raise my kids. I am so thrilled about it!

ReplyDeleteSpecial thanks for the link about pen names. Boy, that Amazon 'buy button' for resellers does not sound like good news for writers and publishers. It's basically like the book being sold via a used books store where the writer gains nothing from the sales. Although ... I've found some new-to-me writers at used books stores and liked them so much I've bought their other books.
