Labor Day Poem - AND - Authors Poem

A Labor Day tribute to the hard work and struggle we each and every one go through everyday.
To make our dreams come true.
To make this great country work
To use the gifts we've been given by God.
To do that thing to oh, so, often seems like it cannot be done!!!!

IT COULDN'T BE DONE
Somebody said it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing and he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one has ever done it";
But he took off his coat and he took of his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing and he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a girn,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

  3. I can't believe I did it.

    I fell off the wagon. Again.

    I entered another contest. But it's all Gina Welborn's fault! She tempted me, telling me the entries were low, great final round judge, yada-yada.

    I'm so impulsive.

  4. Well, Melanie darlin' I think you need to either just embrace your inner contest addict...or maybe... I dont' now, join CEA (Contest Entries Anonymous)-- (I was going to call it SA, Submitters Anonymous but it ...yikes... sounds so DIRTY)

    I say embrace it, girl. :)
    Good luck in the contest! :)

  5. I love being told it can't be done. It motivates me to NO end, and if it's God's will, it'll be done.

    Thanks for the post Mary.

  6. It's a great poem for authors trying to fight their way past that stubborn door to the publishing world.

  7. Great post Mary. Love the poem. And yes, if we believe, it will be done.

    Melanie- Best wishes on the contest. You have been winning so should be no problem for you. And maybe the editor you need. Remember the entry fees are tax write-offs.

  9. Thanks. You guys are so supportive. Whatever would I do without you? And please, say a prayer however you feel led--that I would finally break free from my addiction, or that I'll win. Either one is okay with me.

  12. I did it!

    I added 10,000 words to my manuscript this past week...That might not seem like much to some of you, but I have a full-time job...among other things! lol

    Over 4,000 of those words were written on Labor Day.

    God bless National Holidays!

    My finished mss. rounds out nicely at 70,199 words!

    Hooray for me!
