Ruthy double wins in Finally a Bride contest

From our illustrious tyrant:

Good morning, Seekers! I just found out that Running on Empty and Seeking the Garden tied for first in Finally a Bride!!!!

Yay, oh yay!

Final judges for FAB inspirational this year were Melissa Endlich of Steeple Hill (who graced us with her presence not long ago, including pics of the well-dressed knight) and Rebecca Germany of Barbour (who puts up with our beloved Mary on a regular basis, bless her heart!)

Both editors requested full manuscripts.

Oh mylanta!

Okay, before I get arrested for overuse of exclamation points, let me thank the contest coordinators and judges from FAB. The judges were strong, offered good advice (which I took, by the way) and made perfect sense in their critiques.

I only wish I could say the same about my critiques, LOL!

Ruthy

Super mega congrats, Ruthy!

  7. YAY,Ruthy! I've read a number of your manuscripts, including "Seeking the Garden" -- so I know the judges are on target and the editors who requested it are VERY wise women!! Whooo Hooo!

  8. I'm sorry, but I don't know who Ruthy is, or even Mary. That's not any of the contributors names.

Ruthy double won the Finally a Bride contest in the inspirational category:

but when you say "contributors", I got confused. Maybe you're referring to another, separate project/anthology?

Great to see you here, btw!! Welcome to Seekerville!

  12. Morning, ladies and fine gentleman.

Oh my stars, isn't that nice news? Hooray, and my hat's off to Terri Weldon who finaled with me in FAB. Terri's a great gal from FH&L who has worked hard and long, just like the rest of us.

Today I'm working on revisions from another contest, and waiting until the nice FAB coordinator Alice Clary, gets back from vacation to send out details.

This is a great way to start 2009!

Right now I'm using the great post Cheryl put up a couple of months back about cutting words and revising...

What a huge help that is to me because I tend to elongate phrases and scenes.

Snip, snip. Sharpen the ax. Slice and dice.

Sounds like I'm making soup, LOL!

And I sincerely thank those FAB judges. I'd done some revising of these stories, 'tricking' them out.

The judges didn't like it. They'd never seen them before but could sense that I went out of voice/character/timing etc. to embellish and they advised against it IN UNISON, LOL!

Needless to say I re-thought my revisions and did a thorough sweep before I sent the entries for final judging.

And they told me just what I needed to hear, bless them.

Thanks to all of you for your congrats and hugs (showered or unshowered, Kimberli!)

Gotta head to work at the bakery. Make pretty cakes.

    :)

My hands make cakes. My head creates characters.

What a bunch of sickos we are!

    Love and prayers,

    Ruthy

  19. Ruthy, are you still here? I have a quick question about this comment:

I'd done some revising of these stories, 'tricking' them out.

The judges didn't like it. They'd never seen them before but could sense that I went out of voice/character/timing etc. to embellish and they advised against it IN UNISON

Is this related to your recommendation in the pimping your contest entry post? I was about to refer someone to that post and thought it best to ask you about it first.
