  1. I am sleeping in tomorrow. That means later than five am. So in addition to peanuts and Cracker Jack I am providing a tray of Danish (cherry, cheese and blueberry) along with the strawberries and cream.

Helen? Is the timer on the coffee?

  2. Yes, Tina, the timer's on the coffee.

Enjoyed the post. Thanks as usual.

    Helen

P.S. Loved the opening picture. My mother retired from Rawlings.

  3. Congratulations to the winners! Excellent WE as usual Tina!

'Night you and Helen. I'll get a bit of coffee and Danish in the A.M.! :)

PS - May would LOVE it if you would come by and "like" her photo. If she is the winner, this super neat artist will paint her portrait!!! The competition looks pretty stiff too! www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=o.200258266674917

  5. Rawlings... Aw, Helen, that's a name that inspires baseball lovers everywhere...

    And a JETER jersey-look-alike!!!

TEEEEEEENA!!!!! You did that just for me, didn't you darling girl??? And let me just say my boys in pinstripes are lookin' all right. And I heard from a salesclerk at Kohl's yesterday (do not ask...) THAT:

Victoria's Secret is carrying YANKEE unmentionables. Yes, if my source is to be trusted, there's a sporting connection that's got little to do with sports bras, I expect. And yes, we can say 'bra' in Seekerville...

    I hope. ;)

My guess is that your fave team may be available at your local VS store. Or online, mayhap?

And Camy, the Library Insider looks to be a great marketing ploy, doesn't it? Getting your foot in the door of 'must buys'....

    Across the country....

    SWEET!

Helen, loving the coffee, Tina, the Danish is soooooo tender and flaky.

    Thank you, ladies!

  7. Great WE! I'm still chuckling about Mary's paranormal. Glad you provided the link to the source because I started reading about it on the acfw bookclub. So, is Mary really going to write it now that she's got everyone's attention? Talk about seizing a marketing moment. LOL!

  9. TINA!!! My eyes popped open Sunday morning and I thought, "Oh, no!!! I forgot to give Tina my WE info!!! I vaulted from the bed and flew down the stairs, leaving Keith with jaw agape as I streaked by, hoping to send you a late e-mail with the info on my post on purity before marriage for Casey's blog this week. 10. Hi Tina:

That ‘Take me out to the ballgame’ video is something else! The woman looks like she is off a Cara Lynn James cover. And notice all the men have on suits and ties to go to a ballgame! What would it be like to go to a ballgame today and see all the men wearing suits and ties? I bet everyone would behave better.

Don’t you think it is time for one of our historical writers to take us (readers) out to a ballgame? (And remember the men wear suits and ties.) It would be cool to use a real scorecard from 1890 using the real player names and scores.

    Vince

  13. Okay - I want to win the cow from Mary on Tuesday. TOTALLY. But it's my tech-free day. Can I enter early???

Congrats to the winners - AND especially to Tina Pinson for finaling in the Grace Awards!

Oh - and enter me for the five-page critique. joanne(at)joannesher(dot)com

  14. Congrats to all the winners!!! Books, Grace, all of it!

    Yummy Danish Tina!

Sadly, my Cards aren't looking so great just yet, though El Hombre did get his first homer yesterday. In an 11-3 game, it didn't mean much...

Watching today's game now. Hopefully, things'll improve.

I sent characters to Busch once. Historical in the sense that it was 2005, but not like you're talking about Vince. That would be fun =D. Think maybe Julie... Mary's characters are too in the middle of nowhere. Um... who else writes historicals around here? I'm blanking.

I'm in for the cow on Tuesday. If it's a milk cow. If not, then not so much.

Had a great writing day yesterday. Hoping to repeat. Off to try...

  15. Jeter's jersey and I got muddy in the garden today.

    Spring.

    YES!!!!

Heading to Abbotts Custard (remember there's one outside of DENVER!!!) with Bethy and 'Lijah... It's the 150th anniversary of the first ice cream sundae.

Reason enough to celebrate right there!!! ;)

Tina P, congrats, sweetie. Awesome. Totally.

  16. 80 in Denver yesterday..supposed to get 3 inches of snow today.

    No ice cream yet.

  17. Hi CarolM:

I’m curious, who does your Vince look like? : )

I think these Seekers could do the historical baseball scenes: Janet Dean, Cara Lynn James, and Julie Lessman.

Here are years with great teams and of course, there was the 1919 Black Sox scandal which men would be talking about in all walks of life.

1927 Yankees (may be best team ever).
    1939 Yankees
    1907 Cards
    1932 Yankees
    1902 Pirates
    1910 Athletics
    1905 Giants
    1906 Cubs
    1929 Athletics

Janet and Cara are approaching the 1905, 1906, 1907, 1910 years. Julie may still be able to catch the 1932 and 1939 Yankees.

BTW: The first baseball game ever broadcast on radio was a Pittsburgh Pirates versus Philadelphia Phillies game on August 5, 1921. The game was broadcast by KDKA .

I think it would be interesting to have the hero walking down a city street and have him listening to the ballgame through the apartment building windows. He could hear a little more at each block. He could also smell the foods being cooked in the kitchens and hear three or four foreign language being spoken. Ah, NYC! (Even Boston or Philly.)

  18. Pepper better have won something on Jack's post after what he said.

    LOL!

I think the 'Alley' needs a mascot.....

    :)

  19. LOL, Case

Cpt Jack and I really bonded while watching Phineas and Ferb.
    Seriously.
And he taught me how to do my eye makeup too -
    Just so you know

  20. Vince -

Think a 45ish year old Michael Ohr.

    Something like that ;).

Or the Uncle/Dad from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

    One of the two.

    =D

  21. Yay, Tina P!! Congrats!

KC, I voted! May is so, so cute!! I hope you win. :)

    Helen, thanks for the coffee!

Tina R., I haven't felt well so slept in on Saturday. At 7:30, I turned the alarm off and thought I'd snooze for a few minutes. Well, I woke up at... drum roll...

11:00!!!! My gosh, it's been years since I've done that. Sleeping in usually means about 9. Maybe 10 am. But 11??! I felt pretty good, though. :)

Tina R. your Denver weather astounds me!

  22. I Love the Take me out to the ballgame picture. We are huge baseball fans in our home! Would love to be considered for a 5 page critique.

  23. Wow, Missy. I guess you needed that sleep. And we ate all the Danish.

    It was delicious.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh my stars, Vince....

I can smell the hot dogs, my friend! And hear the broadcast. It reminds me of old baseball movies. Still endearing today.

And I love traipsing around NYC and Boston. What great cities! And Philly.

    I love Philly.

I can picture it, Vince. Nice imagery.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Missy, I saved you half a cheese Danish that May didn't want.

No dog drool that I see.

    Enjoy.

Around here, honey: you snooze, you lose.

    First up, best dressed. ;)

    Glad you're feeling better.
