ARE YOU ALL READY FOR SPEEDBO???????!!!!!!!!!!!

ARE YOU READY FOR NO LIMITS????!!!
I have a LOT to accomplish this month and I hope you all do, too.
I've got a novella to finish...about 10,000 words.
A novella to revise.
A novel to revise
and...my fondest hope...
A new novel to begin. All before March 31st.

If anyone wants to tell us their goals in the comments, go for it.
Remember you are working for YOURSELF!

The challenge is against yourself.
Not like NANO where you have one set goal, the same goal for everyone.

Nope, here at Seekerville we just want a month dedicated to writing.
Progress.
Goals.
NO LIMITS!
LET THE SUN RISE ON SPEEDBO!!!!!!!!
YOU CANNOT FAIL!
Whatever you accomplish is yours!
You can do better than you ever dreamed possible
But whatever you do, you are writing.
You are putting words on paper.
YOU ARE SPEEDBO!
Leave a comment--tell us your goals if you want--to get your name in a drawing for
a $25 Amazon gift card.
AND THEN GET BACK TO WORK!

  1. I want to catch up on all my reviews this month. Since I'm a reader, not a writer, that is hard than it sounds!

  2. I am scared to death of my goals this month. So scared that I cannot even share them. I would scare you.

But I do want to say, CONNEALY I LOVE YOUR GRAPHICS!!!!!

    GO SPEEDBO!

  3. There's no way I can write a whole book in a month. So I'm shooting for halfway.

    Coffee's brewing!

    ReplyDelete
  4. First day of SpeedBo. Finished the draft on my short story with nearly 1600 words written. Now I need to edit something to meet q request.

    Then get back to writing.

    ReplyDelete
  5. THANKS, MARY!!
Love the photo and the bold words: YOU CANNOT FAIL
I am happy to say that for me, Day 1 of Speedbo went great (writing-wise). Now if my computer would cooperate all the time....*sigh*
Time for some sleep, then more SPEEDBO!! :)
    Hugs, Patti Jo zzzzzz....

  6. On Sunday, I wrote 383 to finish up a draft/edits of the next manuscript I plan to release. So far, I've written 1377 on my new novella. I'll be up for a bit longer but am taking a short break.

    My goals:
*Finish this novella (25-30K; due ready to publish by 5/1 so...)
*Edits to that MS mentioned up there (book 2 in the Montevaro series)
*50-60K on an unfinished manuscript (it's at 23Kish and I want to finish a GOOD first draft)
*Another round of edits to Montevaro 2
    *Final polish/format of Montevaro 2
    *Edits to the Montevaro 3
*Final polish/format of Montevaro 3 (it's already in much better shape than Montevaro 2, though 2 is much improved)

The 50-60K is (sadly) the least important thing on the list. The other books NEED to be done asap so...

  7. Yes. I am crazy. Why do you ask?! ;)

  8. I'm shooting for 1k new words daily on my WIP, and to finally finish editing a book that I have been editing forever. Best wishes to all!

  9. HEY LATE NIGHT SEEKERVILLAGERS (and Tina). I should be sleeping.

I had a great writing day today. And, considering I'm kinda loopy on cold medicine that's pretty good. (I hope my characters are like...slurring their words or anything!)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Marianne, beloved READER. YOU GO GIRL!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. TINA I respect how ambitious you are for this month.

    GO TINA GO!

    ReplyDelete
  12. HELEN, good for you. Set goals and achieve them. Half a book would be FANTASTIC! You are shooting for success! Don't let anyone (mostly including YOURSELF) tell you half a book in one month isn't a personal victory!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Walt I love it. I love that we've all got things ahead of us. Clear eyed goals. GOD SPEED!

    ReplyDelete
  14. HI PATTI JO!!!

Just keep doing what you can! YOU CANNOT FAIL because it is all PROGRESS!

It is a month of living dangerously.

    A month of NO LIMITS!

    ReplyDelete
  15. CAROL! SWEETIE! I know how productive you are.

Look at that list of things to accomplish. You will probably do them ALL including writing that whole 50k book. LOL

    You Rock!

    ReplyDelete
  16. TANERA just think of it. I mean, I don't know, maybe you write 30,000 words EVERY MONTH. But what a great accomplishment.

Two months and you've got a Love Inspired. COMPLETED!!!

Three months and it's trade fiction length

You do this ONE DAY AT A TIME!

    1000 words per day.

that IS not HUGE. To me that is 'Slow and Steady Wins the Race'.

It's the everyday that makes the difference, NOT the number of words.

And good luck wrestling that editing job to the mat! :)

    YOU CAN DO IT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm going to enter a manuscript in Harlequin's #BlazeBlitz, which starts today. That means writing a synopsis and query and polishing the first 20 pages.

I also have to finish the story. It's only about halfway done.

And I'm getting ready for two new releases — one later this month and one in April. That means doing newsletters and planning FB release parties.

  18. ARLENE!!!
when things get hectic you need to

    FOCUS
    WORK HARDER AND SMARTER
    BEAR DOWN
    MAKE LISTS
PUSH HARD AND KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE
    NO EXCUSES
    NO LIMITS!

  19. My original goal for today was 2500 or 10% but didn't figure I'd make it. Lo and behold, a writing spurt.

2511 and I'm off to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I met my goal for the day :) I'm on target. Glad to be here with everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I worked a bit earlier "today", but hoped for more, unfortunately the part time job took my time, maybe later....

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have developmental edits due this month, plus a trip to see the in-laws and my family coming to stay so my Speedbo goal is another 10,000 words on my WIP. I'll up it to 15,000 if my children decide to show some mercy on the deigning to sleep front!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, that sleep thing. What a pain. I relate, totally.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Kara, I examine every month that way, too. I lay it out mentally knowing what's going to change my normal schedule, and what I have to leave extra room for....

And it's good, it helps me to stay unpanicked most of the time!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. MARIANNE.... I love you so much, readers rock my world.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My goals this month are to finish my second cowboy book for Waterbrook and I'm getting edits on a book coming out in September.... and those edits should arrive today, so depending on how rough they are, those are the two MUST GET DONES....

And if there's time, I'm going to start a Christmas novella, but the other two are First and First.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good morning, Mary and Seekerville.

My don't we have the cheerleader thing going on. :)

The first half of March is busy for me with obligations (like report cards) so I'm keeping it simple - 2k edited or 1k new on my WIP daily. Hope to double that the second half of March.

    Best of luck everyone!

  28. 124 Speedboers. Go writers. Welcome all you first timers.

Remember to officially sign up so you can get in on our weekly drawings.

    see the Speedbo tab above.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow, Mary, I'm awed by your graphics! No idea how you did it, but they're inspiring. As are your goals.

Day 2 of SpeedBo. My goal is to revise a novel. I'm slugging down Helen's coffee, then will do stretches in preparation for a day at the computer. Will set a timer to remind me to get up and move around.

Wishing all SpeedBoers a productive day!

    Janet

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wow Mary! Your goals make me feel like a wimp.
My first goal is to complete a synopsis and then I'll let her roll!

    ReplyDelete
  31. My goal is to finish the book I started last year. Begin a second book. Work on two children's chapter books I began years ago.

Yesterday was productive. I wrote 992 words on a Sunday! Sundays are a difficult day to get a lot of writing in.

I will begin my writing for today as soon as I eat breakfast and hope to have a very productive day.

    Happy writing everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Helen, I learned yesterday that one of the ladies in my church bought your book because I shared about it on facebook.

    ReplyDelete
  33. March is going to be crazy busy for me, but apparently I thrive on stress and a crazy busy life. So my goal is to complete a rough draft of my newest wip.

My dad told me yesterday, if I could write as fast as I talk, I would easily reach my goal. I laughed and told him it was too bad writing requires much more thinking than talking. ;)

    Happy Speedbo, all!! #NoLimits

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mary!

I love the new picture! Is this it's debut or did I miss it along the way?

I didn't officially sign up for Speedbo, but here are my normal monthly goals: Complete rough drafts of 10 short stories for children, polish/submit an adult short story, start a new proposal.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have so much to accomplish this month with work and at home that I can only be in the cheer leading section for Speedbo this year.

I'm rooting for all of you to meet your goals this month. I'm waving my pom-poms!

    Smiles & Blessings,
    Cindy W.

  36. Will someone define novella versus novel? Sorry but I think I am finishing my novella (which is going to be 35,000) and revising my novel and then find the path to publishing all in 31 days!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Morning all,
Thank you, Mary. A good pep talk for a Monday.
I'm revising "Well With Her Soul," the story I started last fall for NANO. It's my NANO/Speedbo project, I work on it during those two months. Eventually it will get done. I haven't done any actual writing yet, but spent part of the weekend "snowflaking" it and working on structure. Structure is my big issue and one I'm working on with my crit partner, who is a structure master. I found a couple of holes in the plot that I need to research. Does anyone happen to know anyone in the Mafia? Circa 1921? I also revised the outline and discovered some plot holes there.
My other goals for the month are to fine-tune my entries for Genesis and Unpublished Maggies and to continue to work on structure with my crit partner. We are doing a chapter a month. Thank you Helen for the coffee. Caffeine is wonderful stuff.
Please enter me in whatever drawing.
    Thanks,
    Kathy Bailey

  38. Thanks for the encouragement, Mary! My goal is 30,000 words, writing six days a week. Sunday is my church and collapse day. #NOLIMITS!

    ReplyDelete
  39. There are some goals posted here that are pretty scary. My goal is simple, but scary enough--write every day and put an X on the calendar-don't break the chain. I started yesterday and I'm going to close this and write for an hour before work. Thanks for the encouragement!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Mary,

    Thanks for the encouragement.

My goal is to write 25,000 words on my new story. I have another story I'm editing, but my main goal is to get this story started. I've been thinking about it for so long, but another story needed to be polished and edited. I think it's time to start this story.

I'm so impressed with everybody's goals. I hope we all can tell each other, 'job well done,' on April 1. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I made my first days goal. 1 K. Yay. Go speedbo.

    ReplyDelete
  42. First time with Speedbo. My goal is to complete revisions on one book and outline and begin another.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sanda Kirby Quandt, welcome to Speedbo!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Good morning Speedboers!

I'd love to up my word count this time around but I know my schedule. So instead of daily goal, I'm shooting for 5k/wk or 25k for the month.

(Secretly I'm hoping for more but I'll call it a big success if I make it this.)

Now, time to get some words in before I leave for the day.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Rhonda...you make me laugh. My dad would have said the same thing to me.

My goals in March for Speedbo are intense for me, but attainable.

*1K a day or 30K by this month to finish current WIP first draft.

*edit a second ms, so its polished a ready to sub

    *Start next WIP

    ReplyDelete
  46. I made my goal and then some for Day 1! 1/31st of the way there. And go Mary! You can do this. Mama cows are bound to stop having babies soon.

    ReplyDelete
  47. These are all such awesome goals! My goal is 750 NEW words per day. I say "new" words because I'll be doing some editing along the way, but I want always to come out at least 750 words ahead. My ultimate goal is to be a quarter of the way through my new book by March 31. This is my first time participating in Speedbo, and I'm excited!!! I'm so thankful to y'all at Seekerville for setting this up. Looking forward to a great month!

    ReplyDelete
  48. YAY CAROL!!!

Debra! Thanks for checking in. Great writing day for both you ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I can't write a sentence, I sure wouldn't be able to write a book. lol

    ReplyDelete
  50. Look at the times on these posts!

    1:50, 2:15, 3:30
Seekerville is a twenty-four hour city, baby. Up All Night!

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOVE this! My goals are to write a subplot into my book and to make all my revisions. I'll work on the editing and polishing after that. But, my goal is to complete my revisions and rewrites.

I can't wait to see what March yields for all of us!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Admit it, Tina....you woke up to check if I found my Speedbo Badge.

    Well, I did.

I have an extremely lovely excuse for it not being there but I will spare you.

    ReplyDelete
  53. And 32 minutes later HERE COMES RUTHY!!! IT IS HER MORNING!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Mary Curry, good for you.

Keep it simple and clear and take your life into consideration. (Ye Olde Day Job is a given!)

    Thanks for checking in.

Love the ambitious goals I'm reading!

    ReplyDelete
  55. PS—Super graphics, Mary!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Really Janet? You're awed by my graphics?

I'm just grinning like a fool.

I put words on a picture.

One is from a special sight that does that and the other is from MS Paint, an old computer trick I mostly know how to do.

    Sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jill, if the synopsis is making you crazy, stop in, toss things around with us.
    GOOD LUCK!

    ReplyDelete
  58. No ONE can top Mary's schedule, but I'm ready to go!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Wilani, I love it. Those are terrific goals.
And I love that you're writing different things.

I think that helps us find our voice.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Rhonda! I'm sorry we picked a hectic month for you.

We deliberately picked March because November and NANO just didn't work for us. At least not for me.

It's tough to not lose close to a week for Thanksgiving, at least five days usually. And how does that fit with writing sprints? Like FIVE DAYS isn't a LOT!!!???

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wilani,

Thank you so much for the great review, and for sharing on FB.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wow, Mary....your goals, inspiration, and pictures! Thanks!

My goal is to write "THE END" by March 31.

I'm reading this while treadmilling. Now to see if I can write while on the treadmill. If Rhonda can write after shoulder surgery, I should be able to do this.

    Happy #Speedbo-ing to all!

    ReplyDelete
  63. ROSE!? You write ten short stories for children PER MONTH?????

I need to hear more about this.

And NO that's not a new pictures. That is an OLD picture. You oughta like it, I was younger, thinnner, prettier and most likely smarter ... when I got this picture.

    ReplyDelete
  64. CINDY! Thank you for cheering us on. That kind of encouragement is a huge part of what makes Seekerville special.

Your turn will come. Your month will come and when it does, let us know and we'll cheer YOU on!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Eileen, these days the definitions are a little blurry.

to me a novella is 15-25,000 words. But what are you aiming at?

Are you targeting some publisher? Because if you do, they have guidelines but if you are thinking of self-publishing your book can be ANY LENGTH IT WANTS.

Love Inspired novels, like Glynna, Missy, Audra, Ruthy and Tina (and...coming soon, Myra) write are 50,000. So if you think about it, you are only 15,000 words from being that length

    ReplyDelete
  66. MaryC, I add my WOW to all the others! It's encouraging to see so much enthusiasm.

My goal is 1000K each day. I started on Saturday. :-)

Church was canceled due to snow and ice—so I huddled in, had a long bible study, then I started writing.

Finished with 2,254K by the time I went to bed last night at 9:00 o'clock. ( I can't help myself, did a little editing. )

Hi, Barbara Scott—Good to see you! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hmmm, something happened to my little mug shot...

    ReplyDelete
  68. Woo hoo!!! I feel like it's kickoff for the Super Bowl!

I hope you all have a productive day!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Tina, you've got me curious!! I can't wait until the end of the month to hear your results. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Way to go, Walt!

    I'm loving all these goals!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mary, As I read your post, I heard your voice in my head saying (per my imagination) 'I got calves to birth and words to write.' That's probably because on many days, me writing words is as hard as birthing calves and I wouldn't know where to begin in either case. LOL.

My Speedbo goals - submit four contest entries (did two last night!), revise a full MS for submission and write 20,000 new words on something. Busy month. Love Speedbo month!

    ReplyDelete
  72. kaybee, you sound so ORGANIZED.

It makes me a little light headed.

    Signed,

    Mary "The Panster" Connealy

    ReplyDelete
  73. GO BARBARA!!!!!!
    Good for you.

30,000 words. Now admit it ... that is a LOT. That is a huge accomplishment.

    YAY!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Dana...I love that image.

    X in the calendar.

    Don't break the chain.

    Very solid and impressive.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Jackie, you go girl!!!!

25,000 that is a huge success and remember every word you write is success....YOU CANNOT FAIL!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Sandy, just think how fantastic you're going to feel when that one book is all done and revised and another set out clear before you.

I HOPE YOU LOVE SPEEDBO!!!! I HOPE IT REALLY HELPS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. CONNIE Whatever works for you. 25k for the month would be terrific!!!!

I'm seeing that number a lot and loving it!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Dana just think how terrific it's going to feel at the end of the month to write THE END on a manuscript.

    WONDERFUL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  79. JENNIFER I hope you really let us all encourage you and uplift you all month. Great goals.

Glad to have you on board!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Jeanne T, wow a subplot. I LOVE SUBPLOTS.

Not sure why but they are a favorite of mine and you're weaving one into a finished book?

Good for you, a great goal!

    ReplyDelete
  81. HI SHERRI!

The month we fill up all our pages with writing!!!

I keep thinking of *lizzie (she's the president of our local RWA chapter in Omaha).
I hear her saying, "You Should Be Writing!"

    She's a great encourager.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Sherida, you think I'm inspiring?

That's so cool. I was afraid i was just a NAG! (I'm taking lessons from Ruthy!)

    ReplyDelete
  83. Mary Hicks, nothing wrong with editing. I do it myself.

Tina wants us to SPRINT. And that's a fantastic way to grow a manuscript.

But Speedbo is YOURS. You just do whatever it takes to meet the goals you set for yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Lyndee, I DO HAVE CALVES TO BIRTH.

If anyone is interested, right now is calving season on the ranch and I'm talking about it on Facebook!

We finally have some good weather (it's over 20 degrees!) and the babies can be born without being so SHIVER-Y!

    We hope it holds.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Mary, thanks for the great post! Let the sun rise on Speedbo. Love the picture. What inspiration! Please put my name in the drawing for the Amazon gift card. I will need it to buy a book to do something with the words I write this month lol.

I plan to write 30,000 words this month. I have been pepped up since the end of January and wrote almost 14,000 words last month, which is a lot for me since I wasn't writing continuously before that.

I was going to work on a story I had already started and knew the characters, but nope. God's telling me to work on this other story that I only have the two main characters and what it's about down on paper. I'm thinking it will be harder to write while trying to figure out what's going on, but I was talking to my writing partner, and I have determined Write and See is my motto for this month. God gives me the words to write and I'll see where it goes when He's ready. As in the words from Ruthy from Jan 17: how blessed are we to live in a time when we can carve the niche of our own career???? I am holding onto that. With both hands lol.

Thanks for Seekerville cheering and supporting. Prayers appreciated as I pray for each one here. Here's to a successful Speedbo month, even if you just write a word a day. That's one more word than you had. Time to go write some words.

    ReplyDelete
  86. 90 comments and it's barely past 10:30 a.m.????

Okay, people, what do you NOT get about Speedbo? We're supposed to be WRITING, not chatting!!!!

My goals for the month: finish edits in the next few days on a ms. due April 1 and make HUGE progress on the next book in the series! I haven't set a word count goal, but I'm planning to write like crazy once I get these edits done!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Sally 30k is fantastic.

It's so exciting to see so many making solid but also very achievable goals for the month.

I can't WAIT to see how we all do.

    ReplyDelete
  88. MYRA...NOW HONEY!!!!!

They are all here early, commenting, because they are stopping by on their way to WRITING!!!!!

Which is what I need to do, too!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Well...submit the novel I've worked on for a year to my agent, prepare marketing for my novellas. And much, much more!

    Now, back to work!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. HI AMANDA!!!!

Wow, that is so thrilling. What are you? Like 19 years old now?

I'm going to run out now and have my hair dyed and my face lifted.

I should have started writing younger!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Love seeing everyone's goals. Just stating them is a huge step in the right direction.

I've got the writing class I lead this evening. Hope some of the folks will join in SPEEDBO! Everyone wants to write, but so few do!

Pats on the back for everyone who set a goal! Congrats to all!

    NO LIMITS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. My Speedbo goal: write the next book or at least 3/4th of the story. The ending is always easy peasy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  93. My Speedbo goal: rewrite a story I've cut to shreds and rearranged. Thanks for the push to get it done, Seekers! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  94. Meghan!!! Go!

Glad to be part of this month of ACHIEVEMENT!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Am I ready for SPEEDBO??? Well, like I said last year, with me it's more like, am I ready for CHAPBO since most of my chapters are the same length of some books ... ;)

My goal this month is to 1.) finish edits on the Seeker spring novella (With This Kiss Historial and Contemporary Collections), which will be a wee bit longer since Ruthy's editing daughter suggested adding another scene for more depth (so you can blame Beth, Ruthy, not me!).

2.) Finish my agent's edits on book 1 in my Isle of Hope series, Unfailing Love, then write synopses for books 2 & 3 for proposal to Revell.

3.) Tackle a submission for Chicken Soup for the Soul.

4.) Write my Seeker blog for next week.

5.) Possibly tackle the Seeker 4th of July novella entry.

6.) And then finally, start book 2 of the Isle of Hope Series, Everlasting Love.

My actual writing goal will be 1,000/day 5 days a week. We'll see ...

But one thing's for sure -- I needed this cheerleading kick-off BAD, Mare!!

    GO SPEEDBO!!

    HUGS,
    Julie

    ReplyDelete
  96. Mary, my goodness, that's a lot of books, at least to me, but it makes me smile to think of reading them. My goal is to get a little farther along in the novel that never seems to end. 300 new words a day, that I try not to edit until a few days later. Yesterday, I wrote 1000, so I can slack off for a few days, or re-think my goal.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I have a 100k rough draft that I am working on. My goal is to keep it above 75k as I work on the first draft. I'm a panster so this is strange for me. It's a time travel western which is also different for me but it's been so much fun to plot. (there I said it... I plotted!)

    ReplyDelete
  98. Speedbo!

I'm like Tina - my goal scares me. Not because I don't think I can do it - I've reached the same goal before - but because I haven't done it lately.

I'm ready, though. I've sent my Internal Editor out of town (last I saw her, she was headed toward the Bahamas...) and planned writing time. Dedicated, quiet, no interruptions allowed writing time.

And then, of course, I had to take the car in this morning to get belts replaced.

But remember that I said I have planned writing time? I took the car in, started the laundry, had breakfast, balanced the checkbook...and I still have 15 minutes before BICHOK (bottom in chair, hands on keyboard).

    Gotta work the plan :)

And hello to Barbara Scott! Good to see you here!

  101. JAN DREXLER!!! WHAT IF SPEEDBO MADE YOUR WHOLE LIFE MORE ORGANIZED!!!!!

    WE COULD CALL IT SPEEDLIFE
    OR SPEEDLI

    OR...... oh forget it

    ReplyDelete
  102. Um, no words yesterday, March 1. Pesky laundry, general house upkeep tasks (that have to last for a month), and a five year old begging to go outside and play in the snow (in Va Beach we almost never get snow so...) sort of did me in.

goal: 500 words per day, editing my Killer Voice R&R - major revisions needed and I'm not sure where to start, but I will plug away.

I'm keeping the goal low in hopes of exceeding them on the off chance the five year old doesn't want to hoard his "mommy-time" after I get home from the job that pays the bills.

hoping to eat the elephant one bite at a time... *sigh*

p.s. Mary: nice graphics. love 'em. I can still help you with photoshop someday... you can be taught.

    ReplyDelete
  103. MARY, I'm not that organized. I just know how much I can handle. Also, I tell myself if I can't get things done now, I'll never be able to keep up with a publication schedule.
While I was waiting for phone calls to be returned (mothers don't let your kids grow up to be journalists) I banged out a draft of my "feds raid the speakeasy" chapter. In true Speedbo fashion, I went till I was done. Doesn't mean it was good, but it's done.

  105. My goal this month is to start & finish a 25k Christmas novella. I started last night and got almost 1,000 words so I am on my way!

(That was after three starts. I had a hard time finding the "voice" of my character and where to actually start this book.)

    ReplyDelete
  106. So, I had this flu that lasted forever. Finally thought I was getting over it when wham, it hit hit up side the head yesterday...March 1!!!!!!! Hear from friends that this is the last hurrah of the nasty bug and won't last long. But seriously, March 1!!!!!

No writing got done yesterday, but no worries, my goal is 30000 words -- 1000 a day. I gave myself one day 'off' but had no idea I'd use it at the start. Today I wrote 999 words...just one short of my goal. How irksome is that? So I cheated a bit and added a 'The' in hopes the next sentence will start out that way. Tada! 1000 words. Now I'm going back to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I read ll books in Jan. and 11 in Feb.; did two reviews on A. (one for Ruthy; YAY loved her wedding book) and hope to read 14 books in March!!
Am thinking which ones I would buy with that A card, Mary! lol

Kav, get well quick; you are too important to us to be ill...love your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  108. All these goals are motivating. I don't have any wordcount goals, but for March I'm going to edit two novellas and make dresses for my heroines. Burda pattern 7880 in case you're interested, which you're probably not, since they're circa 1888. Also going to the gym 5 days a week since I've been off schedule all year.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Mary, If all I have to do is let a site do it for me that would be like...doable.

    Maybe.

But I want to try. Why not show us that for your April post. Pretty please.

    Janet

    ReplyDelete
  110. Mary, I think that's the shortest post I've ever seen from you :) WOW!!!!! You must really have your nose to the grindstone is all I can say :) I look forward to all these books you are writing! Good luck! I am a reader, not a writer so my goals are to catch up on my reviews I need to write, then catch up on my HUGE TBR pile! Plus, at the end of the month, I get to travel to see my granddaughter and THAT is the icing on the cake - no need for a greater motivation than that - YEEHAW!!!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  111. Wow, I'm so impressed with y'all's goals.

My goal for March is to edit and revise my novella. Given the option, I'd much rather write a book than edit it, but it's gotta be done, so I'm going to do my best. :)

Best of luck to all of you, Seekervillagers!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Anna, I'm editing, too! I'm making myself get it done before I work on finishing my other book. Finishing the book is my reward for getting the edits done!!!!

    Reward-based writing!

    ReplyDelete
  113. KAV you poor sweet baby. I'm so sorry you've had that nasty flu!

I love the 'THE' that's the kind of ruthlessness we are looking for in SPEEDBO!!!!!!!

    Get well soon.

    ReplyDelete
  114. DEBH I think I no longer have photoshop. I lost it in the last computer death.
The sign at the bottom is PAINT.

And the sign at the top is

Which I can use, which means it's EASY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I'm so glad this is happening! I need extra motivation right now.

My goals for this month are to finish a second round of revisions on one MS and finally get started on the next one that's been in development since November.

My plan is 10,000 new words in addition to the revisions. :)

And I must say I am impressed and encouraged by everyone's goals here! You all are awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Elaine do you mean you are actually SEWING the dress your fictional heroines will wear.

    I think that's fascinating. Seriously.

I am humbled by that level of interest in your characters. It's got to come out in your writing.

Me? Slap some gingham on them and give the guy a Stetson.

I really need to do better than that. But mostly it at least appears that my characters all wear just one outfit over and over and over. I don't think I ever explain wash day either.

    GAP!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Valri, beloved reader. God bless you for reading. THANK YOU.

And give your grandmother a big hug. And ask her about her earliest memories. That can be so fascinating!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Anna I hear you on the writing fresh material as opposed to revising. But I really love what HAPPENS when I revise. I feel like that's when the story comes to life.
Not as fun, but so satisfying!

    ReplyDelete
  119. My overall goal is 15,000 but I'll try and push to 20,000. Which will take me up to 50,000 words of my first novel (my first draft of it at least0!! Only 40,000 left after march or there abouts!! Depends on how much I write, but I'm aiming for 90,000 minimum by July 31st!

So good to see everyone speedbo-ing along!

    ReplyDelete
  120. HI DANA! We are an impressive bunch aren't we?

(Not counting what I see in the mirror while brushing my teeth in the morning of course)

I've had a cold, not terrible, I got away with a much milder cold than so many have had.

And every morning I staggered out of bed and once in a while My Cowboy Husband is in, usually he's been working since about 5 a.m. so this is coffee break time....and he sees me and says, "Wow, how are you feeling, you really look rough."

And I say, "Shut up, I'm not sick anymore so you're just telling me I look awful in the morning."

And he gets a little nervous and says, "Are you SURE you're not sick? Cuz...yikes!"

And then I slam the bathroom door in his face.

(that's mostly true except the slamming. Mostly I just feel sorry for him.)

    ReplyDelete
  121. HI JESS! Great goals! Go For IT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Finish story 4. I reached the 12k mark on it yesterday. It's my fav so far.

Revamp manuscripts 1-3. Resisting urge to poke eyes out with those.

Enter Genesis. Hung up on the 1 page synopsis.

Get over the stinkin flu bug that hit me this weekend. Oh, and quit feeling sorry for myself.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Happy Monday afternoon. I managed to steal a few moments to work on my WIP! My goal is to revise and polish my current WIP and create a synopsis for this story!

Hoping everyone has a month full of creative-energy flow!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Janet! Great goals but the flu bug! Wow that is just everywhere!

I'm so sorry. And we need like...and ECHO Speedbo in April for everyone too sick to fully take advantage of March.

:( I'm frowning as I type. So much sickness this winter!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Kathryn! Thanks for checking in. Let yourself enjoy the revisions. Feel the story come to life as you weed out dead stretches and liven up every scene.

Good Luck and God bless you all!!!!

    What an encouraging morning.

I'm as pep talked as the rest of you! Thank you all for being so JAZZED!!! :)

  126. Like most of you, I have several goals.

Goal 1 is DONE! Complete a novella and email it to the line editor. It is DONE!!! I am SO happy.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Mary - your workload overwhelms me! However, I know you can do it.

Tina - come on girl, share your goals.

I'm going home to write tonight, but I plan on doing the bulk of my writing on the weekends. Day jobs = bummer. I feel differently about that on paydays. 😄

    ReplyDelete
  128. I was all enthused by Mary's post. Then I read the comments -- and all those accomplishments already -- and I need a rest. You folks are amazing!

    Go Speedbo!

  129. Well, I'm scared to actually commit to anything since my health has been so up and down recently. However, if I were to write 40k on my WIP in March, I would be ecstatic. If I only get 20k, well, at least that's more than I have now.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Naomi I hope you feel better quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  131. So far I have written 1500 today and plan to write more after supper.

    ReplyDelete
  132. My goal is 1000 words a day. It doesn't seem like a lot compared to some people's goals, but considering I had not written a word yet on my novel, I am accomplishing something. Today I am working both jobs, but I managed to write by hand in a notebook while at school and got over 700 words that way, so almost to my goal for today.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Naomi, I'm worried about you now. Is it the baby?
Have you got this dratted flu?

    Take care of yourself, honey!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Nancy C, now c'mon. There are 125 people (as of midday) signed up.

Think of all the writers who aren't doing anything.

I bet you're doing better than a SCAD of people.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Sandy! I love that you're hanging around with us on Seekerville!

YAY 1000 words and do NOT compare yourself to anyone else. Compare yourself to YOURSELF! Raise you own limit! Push yourself past what you've done before. THAT is SPEEDBO!

    ReplyDelete
  136. A little less productive start than I had hoped for. Maybe because the 1st of March fell on the same day I had company coming in for my son's birthday. But the day isn't over and I'll be taking my lap top up to bed with me for some late night writing. Go SpeedBo Go! Good luck everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  137. I love that Christina Lorenzen is taking her computer to bed with her! NO LIMITS, CHRISTINA!!!!! :)

I love seeing not only the goals, but the realistic concept of these goals. They are DOABLE!!!!!

If I could convince the world that 1k/day will get you 4 books/year, I'd be so stinkin' happy!

And I'm already pretty happy, 'ceptin' when I'm yellin' at folks.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  138. Thanks for doing this. Just made my hour long goal for the day. By the way, I really enjoy Mary C.'s books. Bettie

  139. Hi Mary! Thanks for the motivational post. My Speedbo goal is 1K a day on a new story for a total of 31K.

    Go Speedbo!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Ruthy, I figured you'd like my dad's comment! I love him dearly, and I know I'm blessed to have him still with me. I'm praying it's the Lord's will for me to be published long before Dad leaves this earth. I sure want him to see me reach this goal!

Dana, I 'm glad I make you smile!

Mary, I honestly don't think there's a single month all year that wouldn't be hectic. I'll make it work.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Betti, thank you. I appreciate the kind words about my books!

Good for you on achieving your goal!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Preslaya! It's nice to see you! Good luck with Speedbo!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Rhonda, I hear ya! It's always hectic!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Mary and all the Seekers, Thank you for coming up with Speedbo. I've enjoyed the first two days.

My goal is to edit my current WIP, take a writing class and keep up with the homework, and start plotting my next book. I'm very fortunate in that my local writing chapter is hosting the Gin Ellis Critique Session this month and it will help show me how to strengthen my editing.

    Thanks a bunch.

  147. Hey all, I'm new to the 'ville. So, hi! I've been writing for about 30 years (but I started young!), and I'm working on my fourth novel now, it's going to be Young Adult. There's a little God in it but I haven't decided yet how much I'm going to say about that.

So, Speedbo. My goal is to finish the novel I started last month, which I figure will take about 35k, maybe less. I've "won" NaNo twice, so I know I can crank out words, but I'd like to take a little time to craft them, too :)

Thanks for including me :) Blogger's being weird and not recognizing my Google account - I'm Pam Jernigan and really truly not a robot.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Well, I hardly blogged in February, so I'm aiming at 3 posts a week this month (we'll see if that works in between scholarship applications, essays, and school assignments).

However, my main goal it to get the first draft of my collection management final project/paper finished.

Maybe once I finish school I can try my hand at writing some fiction ... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  149. Today I wrote 1890 words on my new story. My sweet hubby ate a bowl of soup, from a can, and he gave me time to write this evening.

I hope you all had a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Thanks for the encouragement, Mary! I don't typically write 30k a month but maybe after this I will :-). X marks day two on my Speedbo chain, woot woot!

    Hi Dana!!!

Jackie, what an awesome hubby :-).

  151. My goal right now is to write my way to the first step to start entering contests (you have all inspired me greatly!). THAT scares me!!! For now my writing goal is 1500 words a day. Today was a stinker! My alarm decided to malfunction. Work was hectic, my 20 year-old-son wanted mom time (I will not pass that up). I'll write tonight for my hour. I think it will work out. Yesterday's hour brought me over 2000 so I am pressing on. #NoLimits ABSOLUTELY!

  152. Hi Tanya! Great goals! You sound really busy (as so many of us are) ONE MONTH! YOU CAN DO IT FOR ONE MONTH!!!

  153. HI UNKNOWN (aka Pam Jernigan) Ah, Blogger and it's torture devices. Thanks for trying over and over. I appreciate the effort.

Great goals. Your FOURTH BOOK! Cool. So glad you're joining us.

  155. Kelly don't let one day of struggles stop you, just get right back to work.

And I don't blame you for spending time with your son. That's wonderful and at that age it gets harder and harder to spend time with them so you are Wise to Grab the Chance!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  156. Tanara, thanks for checking in, it sounds like a great day!!!

    ReplyDelete
  157. Great motivation, Coach! I love your goals...you'll get them done before St. Paddy's Day, I bet.

  158. Thanks for the pep talk, Mary.
My goal is 1000 words a day.

  159. My goal is 1000 words Monday-Friday. If I get any words on page on the weekends it'll be a bonus.

I hope everyone has a successful week!

    ReplyDelete
  160. I set a meager goal of 1000 words a day so I'll finish my WIP. Today I wrote 1025, so I met my goal. Yay. However, I'm not writing on Sundays, so I need to write more than 1000/day to make up for Sundays. By the way, it's still March 2 here in the Central Time Zone, but I noticed the March 3 post has already posted.

    ReplyDelete
  161. So impressed with the level of enthusiasm here on Seekerville! Knowing everyone is working hard is inspiring and challenging! My first day wasn't stellar but I knew it was a busy one. Important thing was I did carve out a precious half hour! The rest of the week is much more open for writing the dreaded Synopsis! Genesis deadline is looming!

  162. I am a huge list maker. So I knew if I added too many things to my goals. I was doomed to failure. So I set my goal of 2,000 words a day to hopefully complete a rough draft. I am using Scriviner this time. I took a class but haven't really used it. I have Scriviner for Dummies and somewhere are my notes from the class. *sigh* So my challenge is getting words down and getting more comfortable with this software. Anything else I accomplish this month will be gravy. I help my elderly parents and help with my grandchildren and have a part-time job. I feel if I can meet this challenge I will move my writing to the next level. Thanks for the encouragement Mary.

  164. I didn't get as far as I expected in February, so I still had a little to wrap up at the end of my novel, so I haven't gotten to working on my goal for Speedbo yet, but I'm still working on my manuscript!

  165. My goal is to finish up my WIP called Princess in Paradise! I started it near the end of Speedbo last year--thanks to the urging of Tina after winning a free critique. Whoda thunk I would find myself writing a romance, when I had about 3 other WIP's--NONE of which were romance? Thanks for the nudging Tina!

  166. Totally ready for SPEEDBO! Already started. Goal is to finish the first draft of my WIP before the conference I'm attending in April, so I gotta get it down on paper this month!

Trying to turn off that internal editor. Even if it's junk, get it on the page, Amber!

    Think #Nolimits!

Thanks for all your encouragement and support Seekers! I'm a quiet follower, but ya'll are the BOMB!

  168. Just wanted to encourage Cindy (jubileewriter) - Scrivener is a cool program, but it does take a little time to get used to. I'm getting comfortable with it now, but mostly because I kept doing things wrong, which lead me (eventually) to understanding how it was supposed to work. Not a power user yet, but much more comfortable than I was a year ago. But now that I'm getting kinda good with it, I love it. So, stick with it!

Already started on one yesterday. I'm pretty excited about it!

  170. I'm late on this one but please enter me in the drawing! Good luck to all you Speedbo-ers out there!!! :)

  171. Sadly, it is day 4 of Speedbo and I have done nothing. My goal is to add 50K to my current WIP. We won't talk about the fact that it is the same WIP I was working on last Speedbo. However, I am even planning on taking my laptop on my cruise next week and working in my spare time (which may only be late at night when I can't sleep because one of my cabin mates is snoring). I also have a student teacher this semester and she is almost teaching everything so maybe that will help me get some work done. I figure whatever I do is more than I had when it started. Right?

My goal is to beat my internal editor into submission and get May the K9 Spy's 4th book on paper, poor writing and all... /sigh/

Her books are usually 32-34K so, it's definitely do-able. Of course, I write at least 150K to sift through. ;)

So, there it is... Deadline coming up. Must. Get. It. Done.

Nice to be back in the zone though. I've not written any May stories since 2013. (Our beloved May crossed the Bridge last July so that's been another challenge.)

Great to connect with y'all on FB and cheer each other on.

A HUGE thank you to Seekerville for hosting Speedbo. Y'all are brilliant but you know that! And a special thanks to Debby for her Writer's Prayer. I pray through it each time I begin the session.

    Write on!
