Wednesday was the Contest Update. We looked at the upcoming contests and the contest year in review with a spotlight on the 2015 Divas. And every man in this series is named for a fallen police officer of 2014, with the exception of Drew Slade... He's named for A.J. (Andrew) Sperr, killed in the line of duty near Big Flats, NY (Southern Tier) on March 1, 2006. His ten year anniversary is coming up. A.J. grew up in our church, his family has been part of our parish for a long time, and I have never seen anything like the amazing turn out for his funeral... Police from across the nation, people climbed up onto the school roof to see, roads were blocked for miles...
Each day men and women don a uniform and go out on patrol... and one traffic stop gone bad can change lives forever.
So for all of those who serve us, every day... This one's for you.

I'm reading Tina's Rocky Mountain Reunion right now, another tried and true author, I love your work Tina.
Then it's on to The Sweetest Rain by our Myra and Fatal Reunion by new LIS author Robin Patch,her four indie books were a surprise find this year and I highly recommend them, funny and romantic, a great combination.
I'm taking down the rest of the Christmas decorations today, starting the new year and the new week of with a "clean slate". I'll be ready for Seekerville company next week too, haha.
Has everyone decided on their ONE WORD for 2016? I think mine's COMPASSION, based on
Eph. 4:32, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you", and
Lam 3:22 "Because of the Lord's Great Love for us we are not consumed, for His Compassions never fail".

ReplyDeleteMy brother just got my Christmas present to work. He got me a Wifi repeater. I live in their basement and the signal does not reach well to the basement. Now I will be able to be on the Internet easier and there will be a little less frustration. Hopefully. It is such an awesome gift. He was reading the signal on his phone. Upstairs at the router it was 73 in my apartment in the basement it was 7. Now I am getting the same as upstairs. I am very happy.

I finally decided on my word for the new year: Grace. I'm going to need the enabling strength of Christ to help me with my hardest goal: Losing weight by breaking my sugar addiction, eating clean, and consistent exercise. I'm going with the Trim Healthy Mama plan that some of us were chatting about at the party, and I think the support group that some of us joined will be helpful. Thanks Annie JC for the invite!

ReplyDeleteMy One Word this year is Tearmann -- it's Irish, pronounced chairma if you want to get technical and translates to Sanctuary ; Refuge. My goal is be mindful that the Lord is my refuge no matter what circumstances I find myself in and to strive to be a sanctuary to my loved ones and people I meet throughout the year.
Oh -- and don't enter me in the draw for Ruthy's book. Mine is on order...hoping it will arrive this week along with some other great Love Inspired books. Already excited about reading them all!
One Word Question
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if your OneWord choice can be repeated for the next year?
My 2015 OneWord worked so well I want to keep it going in 2016. I know that I could just keep my old OneWord working in 2016 while picking a new OneWord for 2016 but that would defeat the purpose of having one focus.
Most years I will have forgotten my OneWord by midyear. This year I have kept applying it with great success.
Does anyone else want to kept last year's OneWord?

ReplyDeleteI don't know that there are any "rules" concerning My One Word. I chose the word balance one year and just like you, I felt I still had much to do and learn about attaining a balanced life, so I repeated it the next year.
I can say, once I moved on from a year long focus on one word, the others didn't go away, they just built on each other. So, the last five years I've had restore, balance, balance, gratitude and now compassion. Combining them all as you go really shows how God is working in our life and growing our character.

I am currently working on an outline for a book on:
"How to Build the Marketing into your novel before you write the first word: Using a Global POV to Establish Writing Success"
Last night I was working on the chapter about the importance of selecting the most reader attracting settings. An assignment in that chapter was to write a Virtual Environmental Impact Statement on the selling power of your story's setting.
So this morning I took a break to read your Harlequin Blog post on "Grace Haven".

I read it and the light bulbs went off all over the place!!! What you'd written is what I had in mind for my "Virtual Environmental Impact Statement"! It's a total selling job on the location!
I think every author needs to write such a statement before they even think about writing their story.
You are amazing! I never had anyone 'get it' before I even delivered it!
Now I wonder what else is exemplified in "An Unexpected Groom" that I talk about in my marketing book. Maybe I don't even need to write the book. All I have to do is tell people to read "An Unexpected Groom".

Heidi Robbins, I think the Trim Healthy Mama rise is one of the best things to happen to us as women and to our country... And I don't say that lightly!!! It's a common sense approach that works for so many, and without breaking the bank.

ReplyDeleteThat blog came out of a talk with Melissa Endlich, my editor, and it's funny because getting Grace Haven right was really important to me, even to making the copy editors overlook a few things to keep the town as I envisioned it.
This isn't a hardship town, you know I've written plenty of those! And I have so much sympathy for places that have fallen on hard times, but Grace Haven is solid emotionally, spiritually, financially and with a core of good people running the show.
I had fun with that article, and I'm so glad she suggested it because blending the Gallagher family, Grace Haven, and the heros and heroines was so much fun.

I saw War Room when it first came out and loved it so much I'm buying the DVD. Priscilla Shirer will tell you she's not an actress but she did a great job. She wrote a companion book on prayer which I've also read called Fervent, excellent! Each chapter starts out C S Lewis style, "if I were your enemy..." really powerful perspectives and lessons.

But that means I have to bring a couple of folks on board in books 3 and 4!!!! When you only have 3 sisters and a sister-in-law, you gotta come up with cousins or friends, right????

Tina, I was a children's librarian in a small county library. Since none of the others who worked there read romance (they did, but didn't realize it), I did much of the ordering for the romance books. I really miss it. Loved talking books with the patrons and making recommendations for books to read and authors to try.

Carol, thank you!!!! I was just plain bothered by the current atmosphere about our policemen and women, and how things have erupted this year... It's sad. So honoring the fallen seemed like a quiet way of spreading support.

It just occurred to me that your, "An Unexpected Groom," released January first along with, "The Bounty Hunter's Redemption," and, "Rocky Mountain Reunion," but it was not delivered to my Kindle like the others because it was not pre-ordered.
Since I am one of your 'auto-buy' fans, and since I didn't know about the January first release, your marketing efforts may need to be fortified.
Of course, I know you are releasing more books as time goes on and as you become more efficient in your production; however, each book deserves an equal outpouring of love and attention. It's even more important when you have a lot of children not to neglect any single one of them.
To assist you in this new year, I offer this wonderful prayer:
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace!
That where there is hatred, I may bring love.
That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness.

The book looked like it had been read by at least a hundred people.
"I think we've both read it plus a few of your friends."
BTW: I see you are reading Tina's new release, "Rocky Mountain Reunion" while I'm reading Janet's, "The Bounty Hunter's Redemption". In this book the heroine, who was terrible abused by her dead husband, keeps evaluating the hero, who killed her outlaw husband, and whenever the hero does something nice, she wonders, "What would it be like to be married to a good man?" I find this to be a very powerful and emotional approach to watching a heroine fall in love (against her better judgment). Very refreshing.

I will work harder to keep everyone aware... although I'll tell you a couple of authors dropped me on facebook because they thought I promoted TOO MUCH, LOL! It is hard to make everyone happy and do everything right. But I'll try harder, my friend.
And I'm super pleased with Harlequin's efforts to get word out about books, to give Love Inspired its own "spot" with a blog and fun interaction... But you're right, I need to be on top of things. Thanks for hanging in there with me...

ReplyDeleteSo many releases! So little time! It must be nice. It looks like you are going to create your own "March Madness". Don't worry about sending me any books. I always buy a Kindle version of a book for all the Kindle features (like extra large type, search, light screen, plus cut and paste. I also want my reviews to be 'verified'. I like reviews where the review has some 'skin in the game' -- that is, they paid for the book and will be reading it much like most average readers will be reading it.
Besides I like to pre-order Love Inspired books. It's like getting a surprise gift a few months down the road.
Oh, yes, I now have "An Unexpected Groom" on my Kindle. All set to go. I just have to see how "Grace Haven" stacks up against "Kirkwood Lake".

This makes me think of when I first came to Oklahoma, about 45 years ago, and I walked into a room and heard a preacher on TV say:
"God is the spout where the glory comes out."
I never forgot that line. I really liked it.

March Madness!!!! Or the Ides, perhaps???? And it's Easter and Holy Week at the end of March and in the Catholic church, those triduum services are absolutely beautiful. Such a prayerful time, so this year there will be prayers of amazing gratitude ringing with whatever else needs to be turned over to God.
